It reads that, letter per letter. I even opened an SVG that works fine and compared the characters. They're the same.

Try this command, replacing FILE with the name of your file:
    Code:
    tidy -xml FILE.svg >temporary.txt
    You should get:
    Code:
No warnings or errors were found.

To learn more about HTML Tidy see http://tidy.sourceforge.net
Please fill bug reports and queries using the "tracker" on the Tidy web site.
Additionally, questions can be sent to [email protected]
HTML and CSS specifications are available from http://www.w3.org/
Lobby your company to join W3C, see http://www.w3.org/Consortium
You can delete the temporary.txt file.

Open a Command Prompt. Then cd to the directory with the file or change the command to the full path to the file, as in:
    Code:
    tidy -xml C:\path\to\FILE.svg >temporary.txt

"Tidy" is not recognized as an internal or external command.

I think I might've installed it (Tidy) wrong. Gimme a bit.

    Try using the full path:
    Code:
    C:\path\to\tidy -xml C:\path\to\FILE.svg >temporary.txt

Well somehow I have broken the tool that helps m change paths and nodes on inkscape. Every time I try to use it it comes out it thinks I am right clicking. Also how do you insert text? Possibly it's just that my inability to left click with inkscape is interfering with that.

If you mean the "Edit paths by nodes" tool, press F2.

Left click on the "Create and edit text objects" tool (the one with the capital A) and then left click on the canvas where you want the text and start typing. If the text is not exactly where you want it, click on the "Select and transform objects" tool (F1) and move it about.

Yeah now I feel pretty stupid, the text works fine, but the problem is the edit paths and nodes won't let me "edit paths and nodes"

I think mine's close-ish, but I'm not quite sure if it quite captures it. Thoughts?
