Checked, I was right. So unless the archer attacks (which he won't) there is no possible way to gain support next turn.

Weird.... whats with the rules change? Unless this is a change I missed in fe9/10 the games just requried standing next to each other...... I have often built up supports by standing there with just the boss left and not in combat at all. I have each pair of supporting characters do this and bam you have all A supports in 3 chapters.....

You need like 84 points to support, and different units get them at different rates (Legault/Isadora was 1 point per turn, while Pricilla/Raven was like 4 or something), 151 for B, and 241 for A. The numbers may be a bit off, as they are off the top of my head.

I (and by "I" I mean summoner) probably did this to make it simpler (not determining whether it is 1 or 4 etc.) and less cheap (No grinding supports, support needs combat)

Point being? The "no support by standing next to each other" is still a change.

The other thing is just a wording change not a functional change or at least not much of a functional change..... units gaining 1 point and reaching 21== units gaining 4 points and eaching 84......

(Essentially I wanted to avoid people standing around doing nothing for 20 turns before tackling the boss. I also have an idea in mind for if they try to grind exp off a regenerating boss... I call it 0% chance, but somehow he just landed a critical hit and even if then would've survived, somehow he gained the luna skill and even if he somehow would've survived THAT, he double attacks and does it twice.)

Thats fine with me, I never xp grinded because it took way to long and I would get bored. Besides, Fire Emblem was never meant to be played that way in the first place (except for arenas, but that was kind of the only point of the arena so yeah).
