Re: The Neutrals
Hey, I need help naming a character. Any ideas? It's a boy, an elf. It has to be a kind of common name.
Thanks.
In other news, comic tomorrow!

Re: The Neutrals
Sorry. I would've posted a comment, but I just came back from my vacation.
Anyway, the comic was pretty good, I would have to say. The last panel was pretty funny, and seems to be setting up a running gag, which are always nice.Last edited by Green-Shirt Q; 2009-07-26 at 04:21 PM.

Re: The Neutrals
You know what? Screw it. I just finished the comic, so I'm going to put it up on Monday regardless.
Thanks!
The next comic has some action. I love Inkscape. It was so much easier doing a fight scene with Inkscape, and it looks so much cleaner compared to my Paint version. I also messed with a cool special effect...but I digress. You'll have to check back tomorrow to read the comic.
Ciao for now,

Re: The Neutrals
Here's my comment:
SHUT UP!
Don't be so friggen hard on yourself. Your comic does not suck. It was not "godawful". You should continue to make comics.
I apologize, but if there are two things that annoy me most, it would probably have to be a self-hating artist who makes pretty good comics, and people who beg for comments. I mean, you don't see ME doing that, do you? It's disgraceful! Show some self-respect!
*waits for infraction*
As for the comic, I can't actually see it. I just see a red X. I almost saw it once, but then it suddenly became a red X.
[EDIT] Now I see it. It's pretty good, but the guard keeps staring at me. Maybe you should make his eyes towards the side of his head instead of centered to make it look less strange. Other then that, pretty good. The characters are pretty stiff, though.Last edited by Green-Shirt Q; 2009-07-29 at 10:25 AM.

Re: The Neutrals
You're doing fine so far; as Q said, don't expect people to comment all the time, and don't rely on readers comments for motivation.
As for your comic, the main problems with it at the moment are with the art. The plot and characters are interesting, but the drawings don't show anything except for the bare minimum requred to show what's going on. I assume you're using a vector program to make the comics, so take advantage of the fact that you can easily reposition the lines and other aspects of the characters. Simply tilting their heads a bit and making them move their arms between panels would add a lot more life to them.
I also recommend changing the proportions of the characters a bit; at the moment they all have large bodies, and since most of the detail is on the heads it makes them look a bit bland. I also suggest you thicken up the lines used for the arms and legs to make them look a bit more purposeful.
Lastly, put the facial features of characters to one side so it looks as though they're looking at each other rather that the audience, and have their mouths open (different amounts depending on emotion/how loud they're speaking) when they're talking. It'll make a big difference.Last edited by Zanaril; 2009-07-29 at 11:45 AM.

Re: The Neutrals
Oh god, I'm doing it again, aren't I?
Jesus. Sorry. No, seriously, I do this all the time. I have an amount of patience that would not overflow a thimble.
I am not good at social skills. I'm really trying to work on that. Hopefully, I'll grow out of it. I've got a long life ahead of me, I don't want to be a b**** the whole time.
I am the biggest pessimist I have ever met. If nobody is telling me something doesn't suck, I assume it sucks. And you know what happens when you assume.
(If you don't, I'm not telling you. The forums have a no-swearing rule.)
A lot of people forgot my birthday. I'm in a very bad mood, and I took it out on all you wonderful people in the forums. I'm sorry.
I'll take the advice into account.
Could I maybe make it up to you with an early comic?

Spoiler
From now on, I'll only post when I have a comic, so as not to sound so much like an overactive 3-year-old.

Re: The Neutrals
Oops, he did it again !
If you just:
Place the wights head lower so his shoulders wouldnt look square;
Made the kobold small sized instead of medium, gave her two eyer instead of one and coloured them yellow or red or brown or whatever other similar color with a black outline and gave her a mouth that appears to have teeth instead of a straight one, oh and a tail;
Made the characters move their arms, legs, heads, bodies, mouths so they dont look like cardboard cut-outs;
Show the wounds and effects of magic missiles and fireballs on the targets;
That would improve the comic tenfold. At present, the story is good but the artwork still needs improving. And it appears to be going in the right direction. Keep up the good work !**** Photobucket ; RIP avatars

Re: The Neutrals
Interesting teleportation. I don't think I've ever seen it work like that.
Looks like it didn't heal them, though.AVATAR BATTLE ROYALE!

Re: The Neutrals
Yeah, it most definatly did not heal them. Teleportation works a little differently in Ether, (The name I use for the in-comic world because I can't think of a better one, if you have suggestions post them please!) but it still doesn't heal.
Comic #6 is Inkscape'd, 11 more to go.
Does anyone have a favorite character yet? Mine (of the ones we've met so far) is Em.
Ciao,
B. A.

Re: The Neutrals
The colouring of speech. I guess this will be a fourth-wall breaking comic then?
Yeah, we've never seen THAT before.
Either way, pretty good comic. Look forward to the next one. And I recommend not posting to tell us you're back from camping until you actually post your comic, or else you'll quintuple post (I think) like you've done there. I would bet that's a pretty painful sight, and that it would feel like nobody cares.Last edited by Green-Shirt Q; 2009-08-10 at 06:18 PM.

Re: The Neutrals
Funny punchline.
I still suggest that the characters eyes are placed closer to the sides of their heads so it doesn't look like the characters are looking at us. It looks better, but still sorta centered, ya know?AVATAR BATTLE ROYALE!

Re: The Neutrals
I do enjoy reading this comic. Nice job.
One thing I'm suprised no one has mentioned yet: try making the lines of all the characters the same line thickness (highlight in inkscape and go to the thickness changing window), instead of everyone being different, it's esspecially noticable between the wight and elf girl--who's names allude me at the moment--since the wight has outer lines maybe one pixel wide, and her's are 3 or more.
Just a suggestion.
Keep up the good work.
