An Illumian child prodigy, at a young age he began to show a remarkable (by Illumian standards) aptitude for ancient languages and history. What little free time the cabal gave him he would spend sequestered away in the library researching ancient Illumian texts. Finding inspiration in Tarmuid and the Ritual of Word Made Flesh, Aeskiri scoured countless tomes looking for references to the mystical language that created his people. Because the Ritual was a tightly guarded Illumian secret and information on it had been secreted away by the Illumian Elders, Aeskiri decided to pursue the Ritual of Word Made Flesh and ancient Illumian in the same manner that Tarmuid had, researching ancient languages and trying to recreate the original meta-language. As he delved further and further into his studies he eventually found connections throughout the ancient languages of (Insert world name), not linking to language of Magic, but to the very words of creation.

Theorizing that the primitive languages of the world developed from the unconscious influence of the Words of the universe, Aeskiri began to dissect the ancient words, hoping to piece together the original language of the universe.

A follower of Aulasha he regards the sacking of the Library of the Sublime to be the most horrific act in the entire history of the universe,(and he knows a lot of history) growing intensely angry when people discuss the subject, and harbors a deep-seated hatred of the Githyanki, feeling that had he had been cheated out of his chance to attend the Library of the Sublime by their greed.

Not particularly muscled Dominic is a slim man, but his movements are controlled and precise. He wears a chain shirt beneath his dark green, almost black, traveler's clothes. Dominic never knew his father, and his mother never really cared for him. At the age of 10, he left his home never to return again. He spent the next couple years of his life doing whatever he needed to survive. He gained a reputation, and quickly became known as "Quick Fingers". He always seemed to be able to dodge a punch, or know just where to strike. Almost as if he knew where to hit before hand.

His skill caught the attention of Lucius Silverhand. Unknown to most, and those that do don't speak of it, Lucius was a notorious thief for the nobility. After finding Dominic rather easily, Silverhand explained what Dominic's power was. Telling Dominic a power such as his needs to be refined, Silverhand made Dominic a deal. Serve as his apprentice, and he would help him a deal. Dominic returned with his new master. He learned how to control his body, and the power his mind possessed. Soon Dominic was joining Silverhand on many of his ventures, and over the years had become a skilled thief. 12 years have passed, and his master wasn't as young as he used to be. Not wanting to bother with guiding some nobility, it was out his job description anyway. Not wanting to refuse the noble's request. He sent Dominic in his stead. As a parting gift, he gave his old boots to Dominic. Silverhand explained that these boots allowed the wearer to move as his mind envisioned. Telling him to report back when he accomplished the assignment. Dominic left the next morning in the early hours to meet the person he was guiding.

    Show
Jareth is an ordinary man. He is the son of a blacksmith and has one older brother and five younger siblings. Growing he assumed a paternal role in is family, acting as a guardian and protector to his siblings and to his mother as she became sickly.

When Jareth came of age he realized that his future was not in smithing: Carn, his older brother had already started a promising career as a blacksmith and his younger brothers and one of his sisters provided more than enough assistance in the shop.

Jareth decided that the best way to support himself and his family was by protecting his community as a [town or city?] guard. Jareth has worked as a guard for almost four years. He has never seen military combat or killed an intelligent being but has gone through continuous training and has fought criminals and beasts.

Jareth is equally proficient with both a sword and with a hammer. He has been trained to fight with ranged weapons but feels uncomfortable using them.

Jareth is living by himself for the first time. His world feels empty without a large group of siblings or trainees around him. As a result of his loneliness, Jareth puts a lot of time into his work, volunteering for extra shifts and staying in shape by doing extra training.

Jareth is loyal, a hard worker, a natural protector, and has an innocent charm. He can also be naive, gullible, and clumsy.

It seems like Jareth's life will be a pretty mundane one. He plans to work hard, marry a nice woman, raise a family, live in safety and comfort, and then die a peaceful death. He doesn't expect what the fates have planed for him.

He skulked through the byways and alleys to the target location. But when he got there, somthing deep in the recesses of his mind came to life. The man he was supposed to kill was his childhood friend!

You shut the back cover on the last volume of Leibren's Elements of Transcendental Epistemology and sigh.
There's nothing left. You've read them all. Every last book has been gone over, indexed, cross referenced, and re-examined.

The doors bang open, and an aide to the high counselor comes in at a jog, his portly girth wagging with effort. "Professor Aeskiri! Please, you must come with me to the Council Chambers."

You've finally arrived at Odesa, after two months of slogging through the forests and glens from Barr. Why the woman needed two guides you'll never understand.
That's not true, you understand perfectly. In case one of you died, she'd still get where she was going.

But now you're being dragged about left and right by aides and ministers and pompous bastards of all sorts, all because the woman looks like her skin is wood and her eyes are solid black, with blue dots for pupils and she doesn't speak a word of anything intelligible.
As though you'd understand it any better, or they would for making you explain what you know for the five hundredth time.

She showed up in Barr, speaking all sorts of nonsense. the only understandable bit being one word. Odesa.
So the Governor assigned the best guides in the area to take her.
    You two.

Who knew charred egg was hard to get off a boat?

At least Guardsman Greg has a sense of humour.
You think. Kind of hard to tell when they don't speak.

Why did you ever agree to be a guide for anyone? And since when did Aeskiri need a guide in the first place?
Bet he just gets lonely on the road.

But ever since you got to Odesa, he's only had time for books.
    No more hilarious hijinks.
Not that he was all that hilarious to begin with, but...

Jareth stood on the corner of one of the major streets of the East Side District. He tried to provide a silent presence that would both make Odesa's visitors and residents feel comfortably secure and make any potential wrong doers think twice before attempting anything unfortunate.

Jareth scanned the streets, keeping an eye out for anything unusual. He heard that earlier two forest men and a strange woman were seen walking the streets near the Council Hall. A large crowd of people walked the streets that day. It seemed that the words on everyone's lips were about the strange party with the forest folk:

"I hear that one of the traveler's leaves a cold steam as he walks,"

"I saw it! She had a robes that must have been made from the pelt of a unicorn. You know they raise them for their furs in the north country."

Desperate and misguided people would love to take advantage of a large and distracted group of people walking the streets, Jareth thought as he continued his rounds turning down a street toward the Council Hall.

Jareth nodded and smiled at a friendly street vendor he saw regularly around this time of day. He was about to give his wishes of a good day to the man when he heard a large crashing noise.

Broken wood from a vendor's cart was sprawled across the street interrupting the flow of traffic. Amongst the remains of the vendors cart was the slightly wrinkled body of a naked man who seemed to suddenly appear on the streets of Odesa.

Jareth pushed his way through the crowd of gawking onlookers that was already starting to form around the cart and the wrinkled body.

Trying to stay alert, Jareth called out to the man in a loud yet respectful voice, "Sir, is everything alright?"

A slight man in a black traveler's coat is making his way down main street. Sauntering with a certain grace, and the seemingly ordinary man makes no sound as he walks. The man's name is Dominic, and his face has a curious expression. His attention is focused on his boots, and the trail they were leaving behind him. I wonder if I can deactivate that..

A slight sound snatches his attention, and a cold look grows in his eyes. His expression quickly morphs into one of exasperation , as he spots the source of the noise, a clumsy guard stumbling into an ally.
One small incident, more of a misunderstanding really, and they stick to you like tanglefoot bags..

Scowling at the careless guard ,Dominic thoughts come at a rapid pace,
I'm not up to wanton destruction...I'm simply walking around enjoying the nice day...Trust me I want to be out of here, just as much as you want me gone.

Still he couldn't have the man following him all day. A couple quick turns, and Dominic leaves the guard somewhere a couple streets over. He allows himself a moment of relaxation, and his gait drops to a more leisurely pace.

Upon reaching the intersection, Dominic lazily glances around.A gnawing sensation was beginning to form in his midsection. A fruit stand with particularly tasty looking berries grabbed his attention, Look that fruit stand is giving free samples for me only. His fingers slightly flexing in preparation of some smooth work. As he casually strolls toward the vendor, Dominic's smirk slides off his face, as he spots the guardsman stationed at the corner of the intersection. My don't you look half-way competent. I'd better-

Whatever thought Dominic had been thinking of, was quickly shoved aside. As the unpleasant visage of a naked elderly man, repeatedly violated his eyes. Even as he tried to avoid the sight, the image of the naked man burned in his mind. His trained mind instantly analyzes the situation Old,wrinkly, and naked...Appearing in the middle of the fruit stand. Honestly drunk wizards running amok.. His eyes being to drift, and he spots the guard going to assist the man.

The guard being there presented an interesting opportunity. Deciding perhaps improving his reputation with the local guardsmen might be a positive, Dominic heads over to help the man.

With a casual smile Dominic states,"Didn't you read the spellbook, no arcane manipulation while intoxicated."

No, seriously guys, you already are where you're headed.

You're in a fairly spacious room, filled with various folks who keep asking asinine questions you don't know the answers to, or that you do, and have already told them.

"Where did you find her? Was there a full moon?"

"When did she arrive at Barr?"

"Does she like lemon or milk with her tea?"

    "How fast does she run?"

You can only pray that the torture will end soon.

"No everything is not alright! Six years, wasted! Completely useless, the entire thing, it'll never work. Never!"

The old man continued to ramble about his failure as he eased himself from the debris.

Jareth could not tell if the man was covered in smashed fruit or in blood, but he seemed unharmed.

An almost recognizable face stepped from the now heavy crowd of onlookers and helped the old man to his feet.

"Didn't you read the spellbook, no arcane manipulation while intoxicated," he said charmingly to the old man.

Smiling the old man chuckled, "What kind of intoxication, I wonder," as he turned to face Jareth.

"Mind lending an old man your tabard? It's a bit nippy out, and people might gawk."

Jareth questioned the wisdom of his actions as he took of the tabard that designated him as a member of the guard and turned it inside out.

"What is all this mess?" Jareth turned to see an irritated court official walking towards him accompanied by the University's guest linguistic professor.

"It's not our problem, it seems the city guard has it undercontrol anyway," the professor said while gesturing to Jareth. The professor probably recognized Jareth from a brief conversation they had at a dinner Jareth had been invited to about a month before.

Handing the man his tabard Jareth calmly said, "take this until we can find you some new clothes."

"Sir, I assure you that the situation is under control," Jareth said confidently looking at the official while the professor hurriedly walked away.

Speaking to the crowd Jareth said, "alright folks, move along; please return to your business."

Turning back to the mage and the familiar looking and darkly dressed person the lieutenant said, "why don't you tell me what happened?

Jareth hoped that the man would be willing to reimburse the vendor.

"No everything is not alright! Six years, wasted! Completely useless, the entire thing, it'll never work. Never!"

A small valley formed on Dominic's brow, Hmm interesting... Still the elderly man seemed to not be violent. Offering a hand, Dominic gentle guides the man onto his feet. A smile playing across his face, "Didn't you read the spellbook, no arcane manipulation while intoxicated."

"What kind of intoxication, I wonder," as he turned to face Jareth.

Dominic couldn't help but let a small smile escape at the response, What exactly have you been up to.

    "What is all this mess?"
Dominic eyes snapped to the new voice. Still before he could even take in the newest addition to the group, a familiar voice reached his ears.

"It's not our problem, it seems the city guard has it undercontrol anyway."

Before he could even shout out a greeting, Aeskiri was already gone, disappearing down the street in a swish of his robe. Busy as usual. You know for someone who spends so much time working, you think he actually make progress. Still I'll be glad when we are free of this city..

The matters at hand soon grabbed his attention. There was a large spectacle in the middle of the market, and the town guardsman had his duties to preform. Displaying his authority, the unnamed guardsman began ushering people away from the scene. Bored by the spectacle of the guard, Dominic's thoughts begin to wander. At least I won't be the sole object of the guardsmen's attention anymo-.Pausing for a second in his thoughts, Dominic takes note of the rate at which people are dispersing. He seems to have garnered a measure of respect..

After the crowd had dispersed, the guardsman approached the now clothed elderly man. Listening to the the guardsman question , Dominic couldn't help but become interested.
Putting on a convincing smile, he quickly adds, "I was wondering that myself."

The old man slowly wraps his more tender half up in the tabard, looking about at the buildings and people with some interest.

The councilor, mollified by Jareth's apparent handle on the situation, hurries after Aeskiri as the crowd starts to disperse.

Tucking the last corners of the tabard in place, the old fellow gives himself a shake, just to make sure nothing falls out.

"why don't you tell me what happened?"

    "I was wondering that myself."

"If I knew what happened, would I have decided to deposit myself in a pile of fruits?"

Shaking his head and muttering about how idiotic young people are these days, the wrinkly old man turns around and around on the spot.

    "Where are we exactly?"

What the hell is he so happy about?
He says he just wasted six years, and that "it" will never work... but for some reason he's enthusiastically happy about it.

Also, he has sizable splinters in his bum, and they hurt.

The room is full of loud obnoxious people, all jostling one another around a central set of figures.

Two of them look completely ordinary, the rangers you would assume.

But the third is something else entirely. Not only is her appearance unusual, like she's made of wood, but she's speaking a language that's been dead since, give or take a few centuries, history began.
Luckily, Aeskiri has written several papers on it, and its linguistic progeny.

"I'll bleat over undying algae, that idiots don't squawking breeks, I turn bones to oktapous. Sourdough! Sourdough I am!"

Note to Aeskiri: Edit papers on ancient languages.

Aeskiri walks briskly into a large room packed with excited people, swarming around three figures in the center.

A strange, wood like creature stands in the middle of the room, looking increasingly agitated, and talking in a strange dialect that Aeskiri recognizes as having been lost centuries ago, as the large mob continues to yell out questions at her and the two awkward looking rangers at her side.

"Where did you find her? Was there a full moon?"

"When did she arrive at Barr?"

"Does she like lemon or milk with her tea?"

    "How fast does she run?"

Aeskiri sighs at the idiocy of the attending people, and motions toward the two rangers.

“So, have you two had any sort of communication with her yet? I’d imagine if you were guiding her to the city you must have learned something about her”

They shrug, this whole thing seems forced upon them and it is clear they would rather be anywhere but this swarm of idiots.

Approaching the creature, Aeskiri attempts to greet her in her native language. I am teacher this is called Aeskiri, for why are you here?

Recognizing the speach, the creature calls out to him in her strange tongue
"I'll bleat over undying algae, that idiots don't squawking breeks, I turn bones to oktapous. Sourdough! Sourdough I am!"

Puzzling, perhaps it’s a modified local dialect, or the sources I have are off

He then turns to the room
“I think its best that you all leave so that I can talk to her in private. I think all of you gawking at her like startled pigeons is only going to agitate her, which I would suggest you don’t do.
Working his mightiest disapproving professor stare on the squaking masses as they disperse
“Hang on, you two should stay, you might be useful in talking to her” Aeskiri beckons for the two guides to remain in the room
I will come up with something funny and original to put here eventually, until then... well I guess I'll just have a disappointing signature

(OOC: You altered the time line! But it still works. )

With what few councilors are brave enough to incur the wrath of Aeskiri in the name of their duties squirming about the edges of the room, huddled over in secrecy, the air of the room seems to have cleared a bit.

The woman seems to breathe easier at least, and turning to Aeskiri with a smile, says, "Gratuitous you elbows. I'll for to flippant it Odesa with the upper cudgel."

The remaining councilors no doubt copy this down faithfully.

Does that mean he was sent here against his will? If not perhaps some arcane experiment gone wrong...Why is he so happy about it not working as expected. Still Dominic's face didn't portray any of the uncertainty his thoughts were experiencing. Deception had become an innate part of Dominic's life, and this situation was no different.

Dominic strides toward the elderly man, and respectfully replies,
"This is the city of Odesa, Sir. I haven't been a resident long, but I'm sure-"Pausing as he turned to the town guard. A slightly puzzled look played across his eyes, Perfect, I can't remember his name.. In a slightly flustered voice,"I'm sorry, I haven't caught your name yet." Turning toward the elderly man, Dominic respectfully extends his hand. " It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. The name is Dominic Do your perhaps require a healer, or guessing by the state of those wooden stands, a surgeon might be more appropriate."

My name is Aeskiri, Professor of Etymology from University of Odesa, I was summoned to talk to... He looks at the woman quizzically Of what do people call you?

As he talks to the two disgruntled looking rangers and the woman, he begins to rummage through his bag, looking to see if he has any relevant tomes on the creature's language.

The first three things Aeskiri pulls out of the haversack are, in order of appearance; a seemingly blank scrap of parchment(three inches square), Dehé's Exploration of Language Structure: A Treatise on The Eastern Isles of Kaarin, and a pamphlet on how to become a polyglot for sixteen easy payments of twenty gold.

The woman tilts her head in confusion. Clearly you just said something nonsensical.

    Nexin, Aaramil and Aeskiri:

Aeskiri looks puzzled at the small bit of paper, or rather at the spot just to the left, as his eyes slide off whenever he tries to look directly at it.

Aeskiri starts skimming through Dehé's Exploration of Language Structure: A Treatise on The Eastern Isles of Kaarin, hoping to find any relevant information about the woman and the language she is speaking.

Motioning toward himself he says "I am Aeskiri," and then motioning toward the woman "You are..."

"I am Anura, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Aruin."
    Well that was different.

"The new guy seems to be handling this pretty well... Wanna grab a bite to eat?
A loud bang echoes around the room as the north facing door is swung open very quickly. A young man in plain black clothing strides in jauntily, "Hello hello, sorry to have kept you waiting in here everyone, other affairs of state you know. If you'd all like to come along..." he kicks open the west facing door "I love doing that!" and walks through without a backward glance.

A few seconds later, he pops his head back through "Come on! There's food on this side if it makes a difference, Ranger of Barr."

    Jareth and Dominic:

This is the city of Odesa, Sir. I haven't been a resident long, but I'm sure- {snip} It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. The name is Dominic Do your perhaps require a healer, or guessing by the state of those wooden stands, a surgeon might be more appropriate."

Finished scratching his painfully prickled posterior, the old man reaches out and shakes Dominic's hand enthusiastically, "Babar Aapeli Rufus Babirye Quin-Urho, Esq. III at your service. And I don't think either will be necessary, thank you."

"Odesa, Odesa, Odesa. Oh yes! I know where we are, Dominic." Babar Aapeli Rufus Babirye Quin-Urho, Esq. III starts skipping off down the road. "Let's go you two! We've got places to see, and people to be!"
