Presumably afterwards there was some small talk (awkward or not), then Patty let Sydney go to consider the consequences of 'just following orders'...

...regardless, Patty now returns to the Keep after BR and Marle's wedding, and heads straight for the balcony.

Anyways, Sydney is doing just that, somewhere else.

If Patty goes to her/Matt's room, she'll find a letter to her.

Patty does indeed wind up in Matt's room after awhile, and, finding the letter, sighs and goes to open it.

It was written before he hooked up with Erin, otherwise it'd probably be five times as long, with the first page being entirely made up of apologies.

Patty,

I don't know what to tell you. I'm sorry I'm such a bastard, because you deserve better than that. Alexander the Great conquered half the known world before he died, but by the time he got a wife it was too late. On one hand, I want to leave my mark on this world. I know I am capable of great things. On the other hand, I can't look at you without wanting to pull you into my arms, to hold you close and to tell you that everything is going to be okay. If I try to be with you, I will never accomplish anything else. If I try to live a life of warfare and conquest, it will be too late by the time I am done. This choice is too hard. I still don't know which way I'll go. The one thing I am certain of is that I need to stop my ways before my actions hurt you even more. I have gone to do this now, but don't worry about that. When I am better, and worthy of being with you, I'll come back. I don't know what else to say. Just be happy, please.

Patty reads the letter.

Then reads it again.


...then sits down on the edge of the bed, and reads it again...


...then buries her face in her hands and starts to cry.

After awhile, there's a hesitant knock on the door.

Patty looks up, then folds the (now tear-stained) letter and hides it away, before trying to dry her face.

"Come in," she calls, her voice a bit shaky.

Sydney enters, bowing deeply. Mistress, are you all right?

[The Bushranger]

Patty manages to smile, just a little. I...I honestly don't know, Sydney. She pats the bed next to her for her to sit. I don't know if I know anything anymore.

Sydney sits down and tries to hug Patty comfortingly. It's okay...

Patty quickly hugs her back, and buries her face in her shoulder, not saying anything, just, it seems, needing somebody to hold her at the moment as she tries not to break down in tears again.

Sydney just holds the older girl for now.

After awhile, Patty seems to calm a little. Just a little. "Thank you..." she whispers, before trying to sit up and compose herself.

Sydney leans back, smiling awkwardly.

Patty smiles back - and puts a quick peck on her handmaiden's cheek before leaning back herself. "So...how have things been for you while I was gone?"

Oh, about the same... A little less interesting, actually. She blushes slightly at the kiss.

"Well, given the 'interesting' I had to go through, you were better off, I assure you." Patty smiles a bit at the blush. "I think I might hang around here a while longer this time. I need to get away for a bit..."

She nods. Is there... anything I can do to help you relax, mistress? She knows what to expect.

Patty blushes a little. Well...I wouldn't say no to a massage...

And, perhaps to Sydney's surprise, a genuine massage (albeit sans top) is all Patty wants, as she stretches out on the bed, closing her eyes.

Indeed, a massage will likely put her to sleep...

And a massage is all Patty gets! Okay, to the surprise of both, Sydney throws in a few light kisses too.

Indeed, Patty is surprised by this, but pleasantly so, smiling happily, and making sure Sydney knows she enjoys/appreciates/approves of them.

...but in the end, the pleasant, relaxing massage lets her forget her worries, just for the moment, and the high priestess/future princess drifts off into a, somewhat restless, admittedly, sleep.

When she falls asleep, Sydney will give her back a final kiss before tucking her in and letting her rest.

Some time later, after Patty has left and various events have occured, she returns! And heads for the balcony.

The sun is shining, but it's pretty windy and cold up there at this time of year... Quiet though.

Patty is, for the moment, content just to stare out over the breezy view, letting the cold air raise goosebumps on her skin...

She might go looking for Sydney after a while, though, unless she's found first...

Nobody's seen Patty arrive, so Sydney won't look for her. But the maid can be found in a room, gossiping with her friends.

It does help if you're known to be there, yes.

Patty decides to try to hide in a shadow near a door and eavesdrop on the ongoing conversation. Out of professional curiosity, of course.

It's nothing really important. Which of the young officers are the hottest, which girls have been spotted sneaking to the men's barracks at night, how much of a pain their older bosses are, etc.
