"Damnit" growled Orland, and opened the notebook to read it despite the still lingering magic.

After staring at the notebook for several minutes, you notice that these are instructions on making what appears to be called a composite shard. The instructions continue for about 20 pages. After the instructions, you notice that the book now indicates this man as a man on the edge of death, and that this machine is a life support system. It has a small incantation for waking him up as well.

Orland relates what he discovered to his companions.

"A life support system. marvelous" said Orland "If everyone agrees we could wake this man up and ask him some question, there is an incatation here that should do the trick"

"Does the book indicate he, this device, or this place have any relation to Asdop or the shard?"

"Just the instructions on how to make a composite one" said Orland "The logical course of action would be to wake this poor man"

"Can you tell us anything more about Tor'dack or Asdop?"

No, metamagic does not affect the DC of a spell unless its Heighten, you are correct.
