So I haven't quite finished the intro yet, busy night. But you guys can assume you are meeting for the possibly first time at the Monastery now and introduce yourselves, and also ask the Monks any questions you have, pre-briefing.

Fitz is seated at a table in the dining hall sipping from a flagon of mead wondering what the first task assigned to him would be. He was still surprised that the Monks had been able to track down his spellcasting.

    Garrett

A slim, hooded man in black garb steps silently out of the shadows of the hall's corner, making his way towards where Fitz is drinking. Moving without a sound, he leans down close towards Fitz's ear. "Enjoying yourself?" comes a throaty, sardonic whisper by the spellcaster's ear.

He turn toward Blair and said in is most deadpaned voice: "It look like a great start don't you think ?".

Blair doesn't respond and just observe the scene curiously.

Devan enters the room, wearing his cleric's vestments. He looked upon the drenched rogue, the startled sorcerer and the druid whose bemusement was a mirror of his own.

"... Well. It appears that this will be a test of my faith," he said mostly to himself, "But the god willing I will succeed."

He turned to the druid and extended a hand. "Good morning, elf friend. My name is Devan Fehr. It's a pleasure."

    Garrett

The dark figure stumbles in surprise, the force of the impact knocking his hood off. Beneath it, he is a middle-aged man with haggard features, prominent cheekbones, and a jagged scar over his right eye that now clearly appears to be made of glass.

He stares in surprise, then gives a slow, sardonic smirk and massages his temple, whipping his head to clear his eye of the drink. "By Sa's breath," the man grins. "That's not Fitzy, is it? Fitz fixes feist's fits, fat suffices!" he chants an old street limerick.

A figure darkened the corner. He was sitting on the floor, his face shrouded by the hood he wore. He was meditating. Trying to strip the world of its mask, to gaze upon its true self - trying to walk the path of enlightenment.

Haschel Brahms was now at the edge of the world, hearing the heartbeat of the world. Yet he never left that noisy room, he still sat at that corner, meditating.

Couple of things. First, weekdays for the next bit I`m in training for a new job, so I can check and make small replies during the day (EDT) but nothing major will happen, RP wise (I can probably handle combat from here).

Second, can everyone pick their distinctive colour and let me know what it`ll be.

Finally, we`ll use the `OotS` method for spellcasting.

If the spell is cast out loud, use your colour and `speak`the spell name in bold with *`s.

    ex.

    *Fireball*

If the spell is Silent, or has no vocal component, do the same thing, but don`t use colour.

    ex.
    *Silent Fireball*

    ((Gareth will speak in Green))

With his horses stabled, and belongings packed neatly away in the small room he'd been given, Gareth makes his way to the dining hall, picking out the group who clearly were not the monks who normally inhabited the monastery. With a sigh and a slight shake of his head at the scene already unfolding, he approaches the group, taking care to keep some distance between himself and those spilling their drinks everywhere.

Bowing his head slightly in greeting, he says, "Greetings fellows. I am Sir Gareth Mordred, called here at the behest of the monks of this monastery. I take it it's safe to assume that I am not the only one so summoned?"

With as out of place as some of the gathered people seem, Gareth is very much at the opposite end of the spectrum, wearing the finely tailored clothing of someone bearing high social station. A single ring adorns his hand, prominently bearing the Mordred family crest, though Gareth himself manages to draw attention away from that. Standing just shy of six feet tall, he seems unusually thin for his height beneath his clothing, though he carries himself with the manners and easy confidence of both a noble, and a man of combat.

    The First Mission
A solitary monk enters the room. He is human, of indeterminate age, and is dressed in the usual robes, with a cloth sack slung over his shoulder. He pauses and looks at each of you in turn, taking stock of what he sees.

“I am Torre {toh-ray}. As you know, we have a few tasks that we need to have performed for us that cannot be traced back to the Order, which is why we have been hiring outsiders. You have all been promised fair wages and once you have completed these missions we will be quite grateful if you all use these monies to leave Freeport and forget you were ever here.

The Order has been quite concerned for some time that the Empire is quietly preparing to move against us. Not only do we not directly recognize the authority of the Imperial throne, we are an ancient Order and they are under the impression that there is much knowledge to be gained by taking us over. Even worse, they believe there is much knowledge that we possess that needs destroying.

We have not acted up to now for two reasons. First, we always want to see the best in people, and it seems beyond imagination that a nation founded by Paladins might ever fall to such evil. Second, with the chaos in the rest of the world, there is nowhere else for us to go, unless we totally cut ourselves off from civilization.

Still, we may be wrong, and indeed we hope so, but logic demands that we seek out proof. We cannot hope to survive if the Empire catches us off-guard. Hence, we come to your mission.

Governor Tarkin has command of the local Imperial Army garrison. Whatever else the Empire may be, it is meticulous and in a way, obsessive about its finances. Multiple copies of all financial transactions are recorded and kept in different locations. If there have been recent movements of troops into this region, or hiring of mercenaries or bounty hunters, there will be a paper trail.

Thus, your first mission. The Governor’s chief clerk keeps a copy of the provincial ledger with him at all times during the day, and takes it home with him at night. We require a copy of this ledger.”

Torre reaches into the cloth sack and tenderly retrieves a small crystal, spherical and about two inches across. He then steps forward and lays two sheets of parchment on the table, one of them blank. Without another word, he holds the crystal over the one with writing on it and squeezes it hard, muttering a word under his breath.

The crystal flashes brilliant white, the light enveloping the parchment for an instant before it fades, leaving purple dots in your vision. Now the crystal has a small sparkling light in it. Holding it over the blank page, he mutters under his breath again, there is another flash of light, and you are all staring at two identical sheets of parchment. He hands the crystal to Fitz.

“You likely have the best chance of controlling it, but I leave it up to the six of you to best determine how to manage it. The control word to scan a page is ‘Parshmelatii’. There are now only 17 charges left in it, so don’t waste them!

Your mission is simple. Infiltrate the chief clerk’s house at nighttime while the ledger is there, scan it, and bring the crystal back to us. There are three important conditions. You must get a full copy of the ledger, they must not know that you have copied it, and they must not trace you back to us. Beyond that, do what you see fit.”

Torre provides you with directions to the clerk’s house (in a block of middle-class houses on the West side of the city, about half a mile from the Monastery).

“Now, I suppose some of you might have some questions for me?”

Pretty run-of-the-mill job, the thief muses to himself. I could probably even pull it off on my own. But the question remains, if it's a simple job, then why hire an entire team? Moreover, an entire team of whom only one is stealthy enough to pull this off successfully?

I smell a rat, one that doesn't want us to succeed.

    I hate politics...

Garrett raises his hood again, conscious of the direct light in his eye. "When do you need us to have it by?"

Torre: "There is no particular rush. This is just the first mission and we do not want you to risk yourselves too much, so take your time and get it done right, and safely. If you are captured, there is little doubt you could be traced back to us eventually. On the other hand, we can't wait forever. Shall we say one week? Sooner is even better if you can manage it, of course."

Fitz takes the orb and puts it into one of the pockets of his jerkin. "So how does the resident thief think we should go about doing this Garrett? Breaking into places was always your forte."

Turning to the Monk Fitz asks "About the crystal can it hold multiple pages at the same time or do I need to have it record a page it has already scanned before I can scan another one?"

Devan frowned thoughtfully, thinking over the mission.

"... Normally I would frown upon breaking into another man's home, even if it were for the greater good. My own order believes in the importance of order. But... I feel that if there is a true threat to the order of our civilization, it is worth it. And of course, there is no reason for me to doubt the word of your own order, Master Torre."

He nods, and then strides the opposite way. "Allow me to put on my... other vestments. I shall be with you in a few minutes."

    Garrett

Garrett nods to the hooded monk and to Fitz. "You're both right. This is my specialty," he states flatly. "I'm good at what I do. That's not pride, it's fact."

"Now, the way we'll go about this is just like someone like me would go about any other job: Quietly, patiently," he lectures the group from within his shadowed hood. "We'll need to study the place, note how many guards it might have. Take a look at any security, note the locations of locked doors. For a bigger heist, my preferred method would be to track down the building's architects and locate a set of floorplans. Since this is a private residence, however, I don't think there will be too much security to worry about beyond a few locks and maybe a hired guard or two. Nothing we can't handle."

"Above all, this job will need someone quiet. We can't take a whole brigade inside without someone noticing. This is where the small size of the building works against us, as anyone inside can potentially hear across the entire house, and they'll know it pretty intimately, especially any noises that don't normally belong."

The thief paces back and forth. "As for our little band, I'll be going along for obvious reasons. We'll need Fitz along to work the orb. We're not supposed to be caught, so each person in the group will need some mode of stealth. Clanking armor and big weapons we'll have to leave outside. If all goes well, nobody should ever have to draw a single blade.

We'll start by going to the house and observing it thoroughly. Any questions or other thoughts?"
