[Acro] GLoG 48: From the Ashes

[Recaiden]

Ashna can be seen chasing a giant spider, maybe 3 feet long, down the trails that were made in the snow.

[Hyozo]

As the oddly colored fox darts past him, Otaso shouts, "Hey, where are you going little guy?" and follows. Hearing the fox's yarn, he'll look out the doorway, then return and say, "I didn't see any little man out there. Are you sure he was there?"

[Rebonack]

"We was big and scary and had blue fire coming out of his eyes!" Avatar reports from under the table, apparently rather resolute regarding remaining in his refuge. "He was out there, really! And he used some kind of snow magic! I'll bet he's just hiding and waiting for me to come out again."

[The Bushranger]

Brendan, looking out the window, sees Ashna chasing the spider.

...

He almost feels sorry for the poor spider.

((on for ~20 minutes now, but more later))

[Recaiden]

The poor spider actually escapes through a tunnel in the snow.

Ashna doesn't want to head out into all that water to find it, and heads into the lodge.

[The Bushranger]

Brendan is whistling cheerfully, giving Avatar a 'yeah sure' look, and climbing down the ladder, looking over as Ashna enters. "Should I be expecting Spider Crisps for dinner tonight, or do you need to borrow a rolled-up copy of the Frost Giant Times-Journal?" he asks with a cheerful grin.

[Hyozo]

"He might be, but I certainly didn't see him." says Otaso, wondering how trustworthy this little fox is. "Anyway, I'm Otaso, who're you?"

[Recaiden]

"I'll have you know that I let the thing go. Spider tastes terrible anyway." She says, smiling.

[Rebonack]

Otherworldly spiritual beings are always trustworthy.

Especially if they take the form of a fox.

"Nice ta meetcha!" the critter replies with a rather sly grin. Though he's still hiding under the table lest the hobbit return.

"Well... my name is kinda hard to pronounce. A fairly decent translation would be 'Dynamism'. But most people around here call me Avatar."

[The Bushranger]

"I've heard it's rather chewy, and you get all kinds of hairs stuck between your teeth..."

Brendan loses his straight face and laughs. "Looks like we're making some progress, doesn't it?" he asks after collecting himself.

[Hyozo]

"Dynamism? You don't come across many people with a name like that. Why do people call you Avatar?"

[Rebonack]

"Less a name and more a description of what I am. I could... uhh... Tell you my name. It might come off as a bit incomprehensible though," Avatar admits with a chuckle.

Chuckling foxes sound strange.

"And I was called Avatar because that's what I used to be. An avatar of Ragnnora. But it decided that I had been deluded by living with mortals and cut me off."

[Hyozo]

"That would explain it. It's nice to meet you, Avatar. Is there any reason you were fighting a halfling with big fangs and blue fire coming out of his eyes?"

[Rebonack]

The fox's ears fold down as a rather sour look crosses his face. "I wasn't fighting him. I was playing with him. And he was trying to eat me! Then he started using magic. And that's cheating!"

Avatar gives one firm nod, as if to say 'and that's that!'

[Hyozo]

"Well,if you say so.It seems you have a rather uncommon opinion of what counts as a game. Or maybe that's the way all far-tings think. I can't really tell."

[Rebonack]

"Well... Considering that you're having a generally polite conversation with me rather than foaming at the mouth and chewing off your own arms I think it's safe to say that I'm hardly your average eldritch abomination," the fox points out from under the table.

He tentatively puts his paws on the bench and peers out the lodge door. Eyes alert. Ears forward. Searching for any trace of that terrible hobbit.

"It's because I'm a celestial eldritch abomination. As far as I know the only one."

[The Bushranger]

..........

"I've heard it's rather chewy, and you get all kinds of hairs stuck between your teeth..."

Brendan loses his straight face and laughs. "Looks like we're making some progress, doesn't it?" he asks after collecting himself.

[Recaiden]

Yeah. Ashna then looks really embarrassed when she realizes he was joking.

Um, yes. We are. Shouldn't be too long before the camp is completely livable, right?

[The Bushranger]

Brendan smiles and goes to give her an apologetic-for-embarassing-you kind of hug. "It does seem that way, hopefully. Having everybody having to sleep in the main building is kinda a little too campy for me."

[Recaiden]

Ashna returns the hug. Shouldn't be too long. Once we get some things bought." She agrees. "We could sleep at my house until then, if you want."

[The Bushranger]

"Well...actually, I'd kinda rather stay here, for the moment, if you don't mind," Brendan says, looking around. "I can stand it, if you can, and that way we can maybe get more done..."

[Recaiden]

"What am I going to say? That I can't stand just a little crowding? We can stay here the whole time." She wonders what to work on doing right now.

[The Bushranger]

Brendan chuckles, blushing a little, and steps over torwards a box that Delivery Gnomes dropped off earlier.

Delivery Gnomes! When it absoutely, positively has to get there overday.

"Well, I did manage to get ahold of some Christmas lights..."

[Recaiden]

Ashna sighs and looks at the box. "What's Christmas?" she asks.

((Deadtime for a little bit.))

[The Bushranger]

Brendan pauses at that. "It's a holiday where I come from. It's...kinda a long story, basically it's a celebration of birth, rebirth, and salvation. And lots of decorating and presents are involved."

[Recaiden]

Did he expect her to know about it?
I see. When is this holiday? Must be pretty soon, right?

[The Bushranger]

He actually never thought about it one way or the other.
"It's..." Brendan closes his eyes for a minute, calculating dates, times, relativity, dimensional travel, and the square root of Lieutenant Pi. "...within the week, I think. Time here is weird."

[Recaiden]

Okay. I'll have to get busy on finding presents and decorations then, won't I? Or is this some obscure thing only you celebrate?

[The Bushranger]

"Almost everybody celebrated it where I come from," Brendan explains with a smile as he tries to untangle the inevitable snarls in the strings of lights. "And most places, even those that don't know of Christmas, tend to have some sort of winter-solstice festival, that in the old times even my world had before it got absorbed by the newer holiday."
