OOC: Cool. Make me a Stealth check. Basically, you'll be at the top of the stairs, and the rest of the party will be at the bottom. Basically, if you're successful, you'll get the surprise round on them, and then we'll go into normal init; if you fail they'll know you're coming and we'll go straight into normal init (although I may try rolling it this time, just to spice things up a bit. Or at least to divide the monsters so that some will go before the party, and some will go after. I'd like to keep all the party actions together on init; just to make life easier on all) To get from the bottom of the stairs to the top will be a move action.

    DM Post

Moving almost without a sound, Pavick sneaks up the stairs. When he gets to the top, he finds himself in a large, open warehouse type-room.

Directly behind him, is a thick, wooden door (barred on this side). In front of him, in the middle of the room, are three large carts, two of which are already saddled to horses. The cart nearest to him looks partially loaded up, but a shattered barrel at the back that contained the orange liquid appears to have slowed things down. 3 humans appear to be working here, unsure about what to do with the spilled container, and trying to determine the best way to load the remaining barrels. Near-by, the half-orc that escaped you earlier is yelling at them for letting the barrel break, and is making some rather descriptive threats of forced amputation of a random selection of body parts.

A little further down, on the other side of the room, the empty, unhitched cart sits. A goblin is resting against the back of the cart, while a second goblin is examining the contents of 3 barrels on the ground next to the cart. After leaning over and smelling the purple fumes coming out of one of the barrels, the goblin turns back, and gives a wicked nod of affirmation to the shadows behind the cart. After a moment, you can make out the outline of a humanoid shape, who mutters something in a low voice. The words are hard to make out, but it's clear that it's the reply that the goblin was looking for. Pavick recognizes the outline and the voice to belong to the drow from the previous night. The goblin begins struggling to put the lids back on the barrels to reseal them.

At the far end of the room, a fully loaded cart sits ready to roll out. A tall, thin human with pale skin waits next to the cart, one hand holding the horse's reigns. On the other side of the horse, you see the hulking figure of Ramel. The skin of the dragonborn's face is pale, and stretched, but there is no mistaking that form. The horse seems absolutely terrified of the dragonborn, and it seems that the only thing keeping it from bolting is the human holding onto the reigns. You see Ramel's head turn slightly, and catch an unholy red glint from his eye, betraying his undead nature.

Beyond the carts, two doors open up onto a small dirt road. It appears that this room is half buried into a hill, with the road leading out from the base of it. From the ceiling, you hear occasional movement from whatever must be on the floors above.

As Pavick's spell rolls over the goblins and the drow, the goblins immediately begin swaying from side to side, and giving big yawns, but it looks like the drow, while a bit groggy, resisted the effects.

The goblins look down at the open barrel with an arched eyebrow, suspicious of the fumes coming out of it; but the Drow's eyes narrow. "We're under attack!" He hisses.

Shep flies up the stairs, and drops the human with ease. Lucan, however, is not so lucky, and his shot flies wide of the hulking undead dragonborn. Aramil and Pavick, however, both fair well, and the shot of ice and the magical blade hit the half-orc in quick succession.

The drow gives a wicked grin upon seeing the gnome. "Ah, it's you. Interesting..." he speaks in a calm voice, even as he throws a shuriken that buries itself into the gnome's side (9 damage). Even as he does so, the medalian hanging around his neck flashes, and continues grinning. He moves up behind the barrel to gain a bit of cover, and motions the goblins into action, all the while watching the gnome and trying to rub the sleep from his eyes. OOC: Dariathalon, check for a PM from me

The goblins, spring into action as best they can. One charges forward at the wizard as fast as he can in his drowsy state, while the other stumbles forward to move in front of the drow, and takes a shot at the Paladin. The goblin in front of Pavick stabs with his spear, but the nimble gnome is able to jump out of the way. The second goblin hits the Half-Eladrin, but Eltain's armor proves to be too thick. Moments later, Pavick's spell catches up to the goblin, and he falls to the ground, snoring softly.

Ramel prepares to charge headlong into the fight, but at a harsh word from the human in black, he moves up to the first cart, and takes a defensive stance, eying the party with glowing red eyes filled with hate. The necromancer moves up behind the huge dragonborn, pulling out a mace as he walks cautiously, also taking a defensive pose. "So...these are the troublemakers, eh? I'm tired of receiving reports of your meddling!" he snears.

The half-orc, waiting on the humans, slides to the side in spite of the ice, and attempts to dig his ax into the Eladrin's side and use him as a shield like he did with Lucan, but the swordmage proves too quick.

The two humans, on the other hand, have a bit more luck. The first catches Aramil in the back with his morningstar; and the second takes advantage of the first's hit, and delivers a blow to the Eladrin's leg, sending him to the ground. (11 damage total, knocked prone)

Shep leaps forward, and with a thunk, he sends the half-orc stumbling back and bleeding profusely. Eltain is equally fortunate, and with a quick slash of his sword drops the human lacky with ease.

Lucan, taking advantage of Pavick's sleep spell, is able to fire off two arrows quickly, both finding their mark. Similarly, Aramil is able to drop the human standing next to him, as well as deliver a deep wound to the drow. Pavick, however, fairs best among all, and his force orb not only strikes the undead monstrosity, but digs deep into the face of the necromancer standing behind him, causing the human to cry out in pain.

The drow makes a stab at Aramil, sliding back into the middle of the room as he does so. With a frustrated look, he again looks to Pavick as his necklace flashes again. OOC: Pavick, see PM

The goblin on the ground doesn't stir as Lucan's arrow hits him. If anything, he seems to start snoring louder. The goblin standing next to Pavick, however, gets a wicked gleam in his eye. He takes a careful step back, and with a grunt, he turns over one of the barrels of purple liquid towards Aramil, sending the gunk all across the floor.

OOC: Any creature that starts it's turn in the liquid takes 5 poison damage

The Necromancer strides forward and with a yell, utters a horrific word in some infernal language. The Shepherd (who is used to very angry goat bleating) and Eltain (whose listening skills are widely known as being poor) are unaffected by this, as is the wizard who is only saved by a quick song from Lucan; but it sends pain into the swordmage, causing him to stumble away. (10 damage - slide 2 squares). With a curse at finding the Goliath still next to him, the necromancer pulls out a mace, and swings; but the giant proves too quick.

The undead Rammel lumbers forward, and with a huge swing of his arm sends the Paladin flying backwards towards the staircase. (20 damage - pushed 3 squares and knocked prone)

The Half-Orc takes a step back, frantically trying to hold the blood in his body, and throws an ax at Aramil, but the shot falls short.

    The Shepherd - HP 34 + 5/34, resist 5 all, AC 20, Fort 15, Ref 17, Will 16

The sudden screech delivers a reminiscent wind across the Shepherd's nose; he inhales deeply, closing his eyes. The autumn winds from the mountains surrounds him, he hears the distant cries of his flock from downhill, he feels the hard stone beneath his feet. His consciousness slips through his limbs, sinking warmly into the rock--he is no longer the Shepherd, he is the mountain. His lofty head touches the frigid clouds, and the winds envelop him wholly. He feels the roots of the world hugging him close, the heartbeat of the rock echoing within him with pulsing thrums. He exhales, the North Wind is his breath, his eyes open; he is still the mountain. The mountain stirs, the mountain surges, and the mountain scatters its avalanche like leaves to the wind.

Eltain cries out in pain and staggers to his feet. He lifts his sword in the air and calls out to Corellon to lend him power. Brilliant blue energy coalesces around his sword, and he rushes at Ramel, swinging his sword.

    Lucan - Half-elf bard/MC ranger
    AC 18 Fort 14 Ref 14 Will 17 HP HP 36/36 Surges 7/9

Lucan looks around, alarmed at the state his allies are in. He begins with a quick song of luck, altering fate to protect the little gnome. Then, he moves forward, humming a soothing song of healing for Aramil.

Finally, he turns toward Rammel, who did such harm to Eltain, and fires an arrow. The arrow thrums with power, and Lucan foresees a true flight even as it leaves his bow. Though it does little harm in itself, it bespeaks pain to the undead monster in the near future.

With Lucan's help, I think the necromancer's attack on Pavick missed, so the stats below reflect that. Thanks!

    Pavick - Gnome Wizard
    HP 18/30, AC 15, Fort 13, Reflex 16, Will 17

Pavick locks eyes with the drow for a moment and gives a silent nod. "Aramil, leave the drow alone. Focus attacks on the dragonborn and his friend," he calls out. Then with a quick movement of his magic orb, Pavick's mage hand races across the battlefield and splashes it's poisonous contents into the deep cuts on the necromancer's face. The hand then fades out of existence as Pavick doesn't bother continuing to focus on it.

Pavick joins Lucan's song, sending his own soothing tones to Eltain.

Move: Direct the Mage Hand to move to F9.

Standard: Attack the necromancer with poison. Assuming this is what you were expecting, I believe you said this would be a standard action. Int - (1d20+5)[19] vs. reflex. Don't know what if anything to roll for damage.

Minor: Majestic Word on Eltain. He gets back his healing surge value +3 and can slide one square (I'll leave it up to Nai Calus where he wants to go, if anywhere.)

Shield spell is still ready, if needed.

Aramil, inspired by the favorable flow of combat, flips back onto the cart behind him, avoiding getting caught by the purple poison. He bolts across the field, delivering a double slash towards the necromancer while directing his warding magic from the half-orc to his new target.

    DM Post

Shep flies into the middle of the fight, and while he doesn't make contact with any of the enemies as hard as he would like, his attack sends all of them wincing in pain. Eltain fairs better, and with a slash of his sword, the undead monster gives a roar at the holy light. However, while the radient energy clearly hurt the undead dragonborn, as soon as Eltain came adjacent to the creature, he felt his attack weaken slightly. Lucan is equally fortunate with his shot, as he sends the enchanted arrow into the side of Rammel.

Aramil, fortunate enough to escape the poison, is able to bring his blade down hard on the necromancer, who turns to face the swordmage, only to find poison hurled in his face by Pavick. As the dark clad man spits out the poison, the Gnome feels an unsettling curse settle on him. OOC - the necromancer has a bonus to attacks & damage against Pavick

The drow clutches his side where Shep's crook hit him, and stumbles back a few feet. He pulls out another shuriken, but doesn't throw it. His eyes narrow as he studies the battlefield, and he gives a curse as he fails again to shake off the effects of Pavick's spell.

The goblin, however, furious that Aramil avoided the first pool of poison, turns and tips over a second barrel, threatening not only Aramil and Lucan, but also the necromancer. The second goblin's head pops up from his magical sleep, and he gives a shriek of pain to find himself laying in the purple liquid.

The necromancer stumbles back as the poison burns his feat, and with a curse lets loose a blast of dark energy at those around him. It only hurts a little, but it darkens the eyes of Shep, Aramil & Eltain (5 damage - blinded [save ends])

Rammel, still furious at the radiant sword of the Paladin, swings his huge first in a vicious backhand against Eltain (25 damage), and quickly follows it up with an abnormally large blast of dragonbreath, that catches Aramil and Eltain in their blinded states (6 damage), causing Eltain to lose consciousness.

-edit for Lucan's immediate interupt (see below) -
As he rears back his head to attack the pair, Lucan lets loose with another arrow that lands deep in the Dragonborn's chest. It's enough to draw blood, but not enough to stop the Dragonborn. Eltain is able to use the enchantment on the arrow to make one last swing, but it's not enough to overcome his blindness.

    The Shepherd - HP 34 + 5/34, AC 20, Fort 15, Ref 17, Will 16

    Mountains are in fact blind.

This fact begins to dawn on the Shepherd as his imitation of the mountain becomes a little too authentic for his liking. With a great shrug of his heavy shoulders, the Shepherd jabs his crook forwards with a great sweeping motion.

    Lucan - Half-elf bard/MC ranger
    AC 18 Fort 14 Ref 14 Will 17 HP HP 36/36 Surges 7/9

Lucan is deep into the rhythm of the battle now, its beats and staccatos a music all its own. And like all music, a master can tell where it's going several notes ahead. And if it takes a turn in the wrong direction, he can alter its flow.

And when one of those wrong turnings comes, he responds with a deep note of denial and lets an arrow fly.

    Lucan - Half-elf bard/MC ranger
    AC 18 Fort 14 Ref 14 Will 17 HP HP 31/36 Surges 7/9

Lucan blinks, separating past from present from future possibilities. He hurt the undead monster, but he was unable to prevent it from cutting down Eltain. The half-eladrin paladin now lies on the ground groaning. Lucan becomes aware of noxious fumes and a painful burning in his feet, and he leaps back, out of the poison.

Then he sends his healing magic to Eltain as he gently slides him away from the threatening undead dragonborn, at whom he sights an arrow. With a few hummed notes he lets it fly. Only to watch it soar high over the dragonborn's head.

    Pavick - Gnome Wizard
    HP 18/30, AC 15, Fort 13, Reflex 16, Will 17

Pavick feels the necromancer's curse take hold and glares at the man. He takes a step away from Goblin-Kong and his barrel flinging ways, but his eyes are firmly focused on the necromancer. With a wave of his orb, Pavick causes a burst of tiny daggers to surround the necromancer and begin flying around him tearing at his flesh.
