Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but knowing Jackie it'll be a very pale pink with dark-ish brown. Or maybe I'm just being presemptuous and whatnot.
ION: Is there any good way to tell your shrink that your bi? I know something related will come up eventually, but I just won't be able to make myself open my mouth. And is it really the sort of thing she needs to know? And....aaaaargh.My preferred pronouns: they, them, their

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
What's "ION"?
And is there something wrong with the straightforward version?
As to whether she needs to know... she's probably tell you the more she knows, the better, but you don't need to tell her anything if you don't want to or it makes you uncomfortable. It's completely up to you.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
I don't drop things though.
ION=In Other News
The problem with the straightforward version is that I can't make myself say that to her unless there's a reason to, in which case I'd be able to convince myself to tell her. But I can't make myself tell her something like that without there being a reason. And saying that it's up to me is really not helping.
@V: Thankies. I suppose that's what I'll go with. I'm just...worried, given the sort of town that I live in, that she'll let her personal feelings towards such matters leak out into dealing with me.Last edited by cycoris; 2010-06-17 at 07:24 PM.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
I agree with the anonymous person. Wait for it to come up and then just say it. If it doesn't come up, then she doesn't need to know.
Good luck!

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
In general advice for counselor stuff; I suggest writing out a list of things you want to talk about before you go in and bring the list with you. I do this when I go in to talk with my doctor about depression stuff. Makes it harder to forget or "forget"* stuff you want to discuss and helps puts the pressure on you to actually bring it up. And worse case scenario, you can always hand the list to the person and say "this is stuff I want to talk about but am too shy to bring up on my own."
*You know, where you "forget" to mention something, remembering perfectly well at the time but telling yourself you forgot it even as you intentionally keep quiet about it.Still not really here. Still just an illusion.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
I nearly passed out after I came out to my first therapist. Then again, I was being emotionally abused by people I called friends, AND I was in seventh grade, AND she was the first of anyone that I told.
But yeah, It's tough. Just remind yourself that they are bound to confidentiality and to objectivity.Avatar by Dihan

I hear you there, Phae. Louisiana's often a tough place for us LGBTers.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
How long have you been seeing this particular psychologist? Psychiatrist? Any long-term effective therapy relationship is going to require trust. You’re going to have to trust her enough to be open and honest with her, and she is going to have to trust that you are being open and honest with her.
If you’ve just started with her and you’re uncomfortable with sharing right away, there’s nothing wrong with simply letting her know that you do have some things that you will need to tell her, but you’re not ready to share just yet. If you’ve been seeing her a while (5 or more visits) and you’re still not comfortable, you may have more serious issues with that particular person anyway. If you aren’t comfortable telling her this, then you’re probably not really comfortable enough with her for any effective long-term counseling relationship. I say this because, based on your statements, it sounds like this issue is at least somewhat related to why you are seeing her in the first place.Last edited by tomandtish; 2010-06-17 at 11:14 PM.

*waves from Mississippi*
Howdy neighbors!
I went to therapy for two sessions. It was quite fun, actually. Then me and the therapist both decided there was nothing wrong with me, especially since it was court ordered and not my idea to go in the first place, even though I went along voluntarily...Anemoia: Nostalgia for a time you've never known.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Or maybe she showed you while you were having one of your cyber-liaising sessions.
Wait till it comes up then be as honest as you believe you should be given patient confidentiality laws and your status as a minor.
Unless there's something relating to your psychological health that needs getting off your chest but you can't because you're hung up on the whole coming out of the closet thing or something.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Heh, I'm on nearly the opposite side of the state from you, so it may be in different languages, but if I get less busy during the summer I'll certainly remember the offer to have some PM talks.
Also, here's a wave back for you, Lycan! *Waves*
...But alas, that's rather offtopic, so I'll belatedly congratulate Jackie for the room color change. It sure beats my dingy wood plank walls and strange yellow-with-white-flecking floor.LGBTitP

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
So, I have two questions:
1. What do you get when you multiply six and nine?
2. When did you find out yourself that you were LGBT?

Here is one of the times places on the Internet where I feel I can say "ROFL" without being deceptive.
Welcome to the group, Faceist. As Dogmantra has indicated, I think you're going to be popular around here.
1. Presumably, yet another number that exists solely for highschoolers to put on the end of their email addresses in an attempt to be... whatever, I can't say I really understand it. Also see: Four times twenty.
2. Ask me again some time.
