Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
How would one convey whether the individual in question had started transitioning, hadn't yet started to transition, or had finished transitioning to living as the one sex as opposed to the other? To lessen awkward initial reactions due to expectations and such at the very least and possibly for other purposes that slip my mind at the moment.
I mean, transman or FtM could mean A. someone who appears fully female and indeed, physically is, but identifies as male or B. someone who appears male but was once physically female or possibly is still physically female but has the projected persona and appearance of a male, or C. someone who has had gone the full monty, hormones, surgery, moving to a different part of the country and either killing their parents or faking their own death.
Or does it not actually apply that broadly?
Jackie: Indeed, good luck and good fortune in your investigations and decision.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Me either. Of course, I'm an English major. The people in my classes probably wouldn't talk to me if I did.
As for translating pronouns into English -- German. Just, German. *pulls hair*
This seems simplest, to me. I personally don't have a problem with someone referring to me as "biologically female" (hadn't even occurred to me someone might be offended by it) but I'm still a little more gender ambiguous. Though I must say, if feels damn good to officially refer to myself as "FtM" and see people using "he" to refer to me. I like this very much.
Also, also, Jackie has... been giving consideration to possibly seeking counseling and maybe looking into hormone therapy in the near future.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Maybe just ask? Seems easiest/least likely to offend someone.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Again, its all down to case by case basis, because, while I know a great many FtM's who don't mind being called "biologically female", there was one FtM I worked with, Logan, who would go into a spitting rage if you asked or even implied you thought he had any kind of feminine aspects.
Granted, because people are curious and don't want to offend, they asked often enough anyways, and he raged and threw enough fits that it eventually got him fired =/
Shame, because he and I got on very well.Last edited by RabbitHoleLost; 2010-06-19 at 09:47 PM.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Oh, of course he deserved to be fired. There's no reason to behave that way, whether or not you've been offended.
I just generally liked him, so I thought it was all a shame he had to be that way.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
My mom told me "Gays are gross and shouldn't be around children". We were talking about Disney Land celebrations... The way she said it... like she was talking about mud.
On the bright side, I met a cute guy today. He's a gay cheerleader.____

What do gay people have to do with Disney Land?

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Disneyworld and Disneyland Gay Days are days where huge throngs of gays, the rest of the acronym, and their friends take the parks by storm. Thousands, often wearing "Disneyworld Gay Day" shirts. Supposedly there's a lot of pissed off homophobes who don't want their kids seeing homosexuality, so they in turn demand compensation for that oh so miserable day at DISNEYWORLD.
Disney's official stance is that they don't exist.Avatar by Dihan

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Okay, so I like this guy, and have done for ages. The thing is, he's so straight you could use him as a spirit level. Just needed to tell someone, I've liked him for a solid 3 years now.
Also, he posts here, so I'll be editing this to something inconspicuous after someone's replied.
In fact, PM would be good.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
The other day I was talking with my parents about my problems with university, and I told them that I'm gay. No yelling, no crying, no problem whatsoever. I expected that, because one of my mother sisters is lesbian, and my family went to her wedding with her girlfriend and we go to their home to play with their baby sometimes. So, no more pretending with them
I know how you feel (or I think so), from personal experience. I've liked my friend for nearly 6 years, now he is not here anymore but... Having a crush on a straight guy sucks

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Man, I know how that goes. My mum went on a rant once about how bisexuals don't really exist. According to her, people identifying as bisexual are either just gay/straight and confused, or so desperate for a relationship that they'll take whatever they can get. Awk-ward. It's one of the reasons I haven't discussed my doin's with her, even though she's pretty liberal in other respects.
Good luck with the cheerleader thang, though.Faceist avatar by Kwarkpudding. Cheers!

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Awesome! Congrats!
Ugh. I've heard this opinion before. It's actually pretty common, believe it or not, even amongst the rest of the LGBT community. They think we're either straight and fooling around or gay and too scared to leave the closet.
I was glad to see this wasn't the opinion of most people on this thread.
I've been waiting for this for ages. Can't see it happening anytime soon, though. I mean, Disney only just released the first film where the character wasn't white. They're kind of a conservative bunch, aren't they?Last edited by Danne; 2010-06-20 at 12:36 PM.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
See, I can often see the reasoning behind opinions I don't agree with, but this always gets me, and it got me even before I realised that I don't really care about sex. I'm attracted to whoever I find attractive (yay tautology!). I physically can't comprehend how someone could think that there is no way that could happen. Then again, I guess some people who have that opinion can't comprehend how anyone could be open to having relations with anyone, regardless of sex.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
True, unless you count "Mulan", "Pocahontas", "Aladdin", "the Jungle Book", "Cool Runnings", "Squanto: A Warrior's Tale", "Remember The Titans", "Snow Dogs", "Lilo & Stitch", any of the movies that featured a non-human cast (which I think is most of them), or any of the others I probably didn't list.
Disney ain't perfect, but I think that's a slight exaggeration.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Well, there's always trying for something short(isher) term and getting disgusted with him that way so it doesn't linger and cause angst.
Somehow, I think the idea of a sexually aware and awakened child should be found more disturbing than what their sexuality actually was. And active, hoo boy, that's like, doubleplusungoodawkward^doubleplusawkward.
It just screams that there's a situation and people at play in the area that should be avoided or prosecuted.
Years without even an illusion of hope. Something's wrong here.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
I know what you are feeling. I've been totally in love with one of my best friends for... lessee... 4 years. Never once have I been able to come through and tell him my feelings. He knows I'm gay and all, and as far as I can tell from what he's said and done over the years, I'm inclined to think he is. There's not a day that I don't worry and care for him like he were mine, but for now, he isn't. I'm afraid that by the time I graduate high school I will have missed my opportunity to tell him with a chance of going further, so, as my little word of caution, don't let time run thin. I'm ready to throw safety to the wind, but you need to go at your own pace. Just always keep in mind that stewing is just bad for you and that you should, sooner or later, even just for the sake of honesty, tell him. That's what I'm going to do.
