Re: Neverending Dungeon - Olivia Benson (candycorn)
Not quite, I'm afraid. As the extra sections make the gas more concentrated, it takes longer and longer for the gas to vent. It takes longer still the further away from the door.
In general, each adjacent section will add 5 minutes more to clear the corridor out fully, with an extra minute for each 10' from the door. (When doing 5' sections only, it's 1 minute per 5')
You can clear it out, but it'll take a long time, and I may have to start counting hours.

Re: Neverending Dungeon - Olivia Benson (candycorn)
So....
{table]|A_|B_|C_|D_|E_|F_|G_|H_|I_
1|X|Y|X|Y|X|Y|X|Y|X
2|A|B|A|B|A|B|A|B|A
3|X|Y|X|Y|X|Y|X|Y|X
If I did it in this way... Doing All the X's first, there's no adjacent, so they'll clear in a minute, right?
Once clear, do all the Y's.
Once clear, do all the A's.
Once clear, do all the B's.
The whole thing should take no more than 10-15 minutes per 60 foot section... and that's assuming a 15 foot wide corridor...
How long is the corridor?Last edited by candycorn; 2010-09-11 at 12:23 PM.

Re: Neverending Dungeon - Olivia Benson (candycorn)
...
*tries to calculate how long that'll take*
There is a mechanic behind how it spreads, and in general, the more gas released, the longer it takes. I think you can fully clear 60' in about 1 hour.
It's only 5' wide, though.
As for length, this corridor is 20' long, then turns north.

Re: Neverending Dungeon - Olivia Benson (candycorn)
So... {table]|A_|B_|C_|D_
1|W|X|Y|Z
Start with X and Z.
X takes 2 minutes to dissipate. (after which, W is done, for 1 minute)
Z takes 3 minutes. (after which, Y is done, for 2 minutes).
Based on this, in 3 minutes, W and X will be clear, and 2 minutes later, Y and Z will clear. I'll wait the 5 minutes for that 20 feet, and check round the corner. Hopefully, it's a long stretch. Something I can blast a lot of spores, then explore elsewhere while it clears.
(The mechanic is:
(D1+D2)/10+2
D1: take the farthest square I can shoot. Round it down to the nearest 10.
D2: take the 2nd farthest square I can shoot. Round it down to the nearest 10.
I could further refine it, but that would take time. And if Hewlett Packard isn't paying me to do that kind of work any more, I'm not going to write algorithms.Last edited by candycorn; 2010-09-11 at 02:25 PM.

Sorry, nope. 10' then turns east.

Drat. 7 minutes to clear those 2, then.
Then check out east.

Re: Neverending Dungeon - Olivia Benson (candycorn)
20', turns west. (Your numbers aren't completely correct, but the time isn't much longer, so I'm letting it slide. We *will* hit a snag in longer corridors, though...you can only fire one blast a round, and the gas/spores will spread enough to make it impossible to keep blasting before you can hit that much of the corridor.

A longer corridor isn't a big deal. I have a totally different tactic for that.

Re: Neverending Dungeon - Olivia Benson (candycorn)
20 foot corridor, 15 minutes, give or take. For any length up to 60 feet, I believe I'm 2 rounds short on each stretch... Assuming the clouds don't expand beyond 5x5.

Re: Neverending Dungeon - Olivia Benson (candycorn)
They do. That's how they vent. They spread out until they become weak enough that they're no longer dangerous.
35' corridor now.

Blast every square, and head back to the cloud room, and take the south door while it clears.

Re: Neverending Dungeon - Olivia Benson (candycorn)
If you start at the far end, you can barely manage to clear it before you have to back off, and that includes holding your breath.
The southern door leads to a safe resting place. 8 hours rest, one-use-only.

Let's back up to the room with the big water pool, and take 1 door south from the pit hall.

The door reveals darkness. You cannot see at all.

Cast Ebon Eyes, to see in magic darkness. I was going to use that for my darkness spells, but I can use it just as easy for this.

Re: Neverending Dungeon - Olivia Benson (candycorn)
You see a corridor with a north/south split after a bit, and turning south at the end.
There's an odd smell in this corridor, too...

Re: Neverending Dungeon - Olivia Benson (candycorn)
Well, whatever the smell is, it's not me. I'm familiar with what's in here on that north passage, from my last 2 characters. I'm also familiar that it'd be essentially a stalemate, as it couldn't detect me, and I couldn't hurt it.
So I'll go south, but I'm going to be travelling on the south wall (still at ground level, I just don't want to be on the floor).

Re: Neverending Dungeon - Olivia Benson (candycorn)
Since it seems to have been quite a while since TS's last post here, now that I'm not suffering from a combination of work, lazyness, and computer problems, I will do what TS has done for me in other threads and take this over, at least for now.
And now for the long-awaited [maybe] results of your Fort save:
You'll be taking (1d6)[3] CON damage.
Staying on the wall or something else?Thelas
