A Meeting with Lumos

"Believe it or not, there already is one. It's just not apparent. As for Seln, he is far too entrenched in his goals and far too treacherous to give such sensitive data to. As for the Masked One, he refused entry into the group. He genuinely supports the Council, I suspect."

"Hmmm, well then I believe I need to be introduced to this third side formally..." Lumos smiles slightly. " I don't know this universe well enough to speculate as to who's on it, besides you of course."

Oblivion actually chuckled slightly at this.

"That's part of the point. If you don't know more than one or two members, you can't unearth the entire organization if you were to betray us. Besides, it is more effective and intimidating if you have no idea as to our numbers. It could be ten. It could be just me..."

" Well that also poses the question as to whether this side really exists too." Lumos winks. " But I must at least give it a chance. And even if they know I'm already 'allied' with the Conclave, who's to say they won't still give me a chance? I'm a bit less ' Destroy everything!' than you are."

Every member is at least otensibly allied with one of the two factions in this war. The irony is that the Conclave is significantly weaker than it appears, and the Council doesn't understand that they are actually prolonging the cycle of death and suffering.

" Then it seems this third side you mentioned is the best option. Only a side that constantly supports both so that they balance each other out is the best hope."

Exactly my point! The only real loose ends are Seln and the Masked One. The latter seems to be ignored, but Seln is a problem. Seln is successfully playing both sides. He has also aligned himself with both sides, and is currently our only spy in the Council. He has no idea of our little secret. If you desire to join, I have a special mission for you.

Oblivion hands Lumos an unabridged datapad of the universe's history, excepting military details of the Antigolems.

Seln is a genuine threat to our organization, and must be removed from a position of trust in the Conclave. We have one weapon, however. Seln concealed his preservation of the Council's Arbiter from Kaal'ex. Thus, you must locate the Arbiter and report this location to Kaal'ex. This discredits Seln within the Conclave, forcing him out. It also rebalances the sides. Do you accept?

Lumos scans the pad for a few moments. "While I understand how this could work in our favor, wouldn't it be even more advantageous if we could get Seln to join our side? If he is successfully playing both sides, then wouldn't he share our views? He could be a valuable ally."

The biggest problem with That is the indisputable fact that Seln desires to a free agent and will do anything to increase his own power. In fact, the first time I encountered the Council, his first statement was a subtle betrayal of me, that I did not even recognize immediately. He is far too treacherous to even be allowed to know of the existence of another manipulative group. Alternately, I suppose we could wait until the Masked One and Seln kill each other. It'll happen eventually.

" Well, isn't that what our side's all about?" Lumos jokes. " We're all just trying to get ourselves power and take it away from the Council and Conclave. " Lumos shrugs. " Maybe he just has something against you. Anyway, I'll try to infiltrate, and if it doesn't work, we've got the Conclave pretty well infiltrated already. We'll see how it plays out." Lumos chuckles evilly. " And if the Masked One and Seln do kill each other..." He laughs again. It's creepy.
