Tell me about it. I love my SO, but sometimes he drives me nuts. Then again, that counts vice versa too so we're even I guess.

Also over here it's not too uncommon to bring something when you're invited to a BBQ. We even had a street barbecue and every house brought something. Of course all was organized at the beginning who'd bring what but still.

Anyhoo, unless you're actually interested enough in a guy to ask him out personally, if he isn't being clear and asking you out, he's not worth your time until he can get his act together enough to lrn2cue, or at least lrn2woo.
