when you step on the fifth step up, you feel is collapse on you. the bottom half of the stairs slide into the walls and a 15 foot drop down awaits you. You try to jump to the edge and catch yourself before you fall too far to make it. should you fail, you will be taking (1d6)[3] damage and are now in a 10 foot pit.

that better? the dc's are 10 on the jump down, 15 on the jump up and 18 on the reflex save. i'll be going out of town now and will have limited internet

Edit: Naturally, I get a 17. Shalantan finds his rope, and waits for someone to come to the edge of the pit. If/When they do, he throws the rope up to them. "Hold it, I'll climb up."

two of your mooks hold the rope for you as you easily make the climb back up.

"the wiz'll have a r'lease down here sommere." your padfoot mumbles gutturally

"Well, Padfoot, I appreciate your initative.. Now find it."

you and he spend a couple of minutes searching before you find it. It appears to be alock that isactivated by a key. "I kin try teh jimmy it if yeh want meh ta," he says. He appears to either have a thick accent from a strange land or has brain damage of some sort, you think.

he fiddles around with the lock for a bit

"Well, erh, any results?"

[planswalker]

oops. i meant to continue with "and the mechanism turns. the stairs are back in place."

"We'n kin go now" he mumbles.

Shalantan trusts the runt, asks the group to wait, then ascends the stairs.

If he finds nothing dangerous just around the top of the stairs, he goes down again and gets the group.

assuming that he skips the fifth step so as to avoid setting off the same trap twice, he finds the top of the stairs to lead into an empty hallway. each door has a glowing sigil on its face. he then walks down the stairs, bringing his possie with him. He rather carefully instruct them to not step on the fifth step.

He totally remembers to not step on the fifth step.

He faces Bob. "So, mister magic man, what do you make of these sigimalits?"

[planswalker]

after looking over them for a bit, he says, "These doors are marked with an arcane mark and an arcane lock there is another contingent spell set to go off should the lock be disabled or distroyed. It will be difficult to tell what that effect is until it manifests itself upon being triggered."

[Shadowleaf]

Shalantan glares at him. "Yes, explanations are nice, but results are better. Can we bypass them, pick them, ask them nicely to not set off a gazillion death rays?"

[planswalker]

"Well, if I disable the arcane locks, an unknown spell will go offf. I could prepare to counter the spell, but then someone else would have to bypass it. I think the spell on it would be activated if one tried to break the door down. Do you have any volunteers?"

Shalantan thinks long and hard.

Can I initiate maneuvers out of combat?

"You there." Shalantan points at Mook #2. "Do Kurtulmak proud, and bash down that door. The rest of you, get ready for combat."
As/if the mook attacks the door, Shalantan backs away with the rest of the group, clearing the area near the door. Shalantan then pulls out his bow, and notches an arrow.

as the guy gives it his best bet to bash the door in, the sigils glow. Your mage gets a panicked look as he realizes what spell is being activated. he quickly casts his dispell. (1d20+6)[12]

[planswalker]

unfortunately, this time he was nt able to overcom te othe mage's more powerful effect. an alarm goes off with a terrible screech. An elderly humman in a nightrobe teleports into the hall right next to the door and asks, "What the hell are you doing in my house?"

Shalantan drops his bow, moves towards the Wizard, drawing his rapier, and stabs him in the gut.

you stab him in the gut and wrench wat you are sure is vvital organs

taking his cue from you, your mage casts magic missile for (3d4+3)[9]. lthe mooks swarm him, giving you a flank while the pad foot draws his weapon and engeges him.

Shalantan keeps deadly focus on the mage. He takes another stab.

da mage is now ded. you keeled him good.

you find 2400 xp on his corpse, as well as another 500 from the trap you overcame on the doors. his corpse had no magical gear on it, but you do find his staff nearby. if you want more loot, you'll have to figure out where he hid it,

Shalantan turns to the group. "We did good, a great enemy of the Kobolds is dead. You are free to go home, Padfoot, I'd like you to stay for a while, though. I need your help cleaning up."

[planswalker]

"k, boss" he says. the rest leave. the mage has the foresight to leave the front door wedged open with a pebble, so that the arcane lock won't trap you inside.

[Shadowleaf]

"Hey, Mage dude, you don't get to leave just yet!" Shalantan shouts after Bob the Mage. "We still need your arcane sight! I'll pay 50 gold pieces for you to stay."

"Of course then, boss."
