Sam walks through the hall and looks at the signs.
12 of them are looking for bodyguards.

9 of them are looking for assassins.

Of the 9 which interest you, 3 are for petty nobles, 3 are for merchants, 2 are for religious groups, and 1 doesn't indicate who is doing the hiring.

[Heian Naïlo]

Unnamed employer eh? Now that's very interesting. Sam's hand almost twitches once in exitement. He opens the door and enters the room.

[Shadowleaf]

You open the door and enter a small 10'x10'. The are only three things in this room - a table, a chair, and a man in the chair.
The man is roughly 30 years of age, bald, and is wearing a black robe. He looks you straight in the eyes. "Yes, and who might you be?"

[Heian Naïlo]

I am Sam, potential employee. The sign was for an assassin position correct? Who's the job?

[Shadowleaf]

"My employer is looking for someone to remove some opposition, no questions asked. If you do good, you will be put on contract - we're not talking a single mark, here. So, what's your trick?"

[Heian Naïlo]

I kill with a sword, using speed, focus, and misdirection.

[Shadowleaf]

The man eyes you up and down. "Can you get in an out without being noticed or raising alarm? A noticed assassin is usually worthless."

[Heian Naïlo]

I can sneak in, kill the peon deemed in need of death, and leave undetected.

[Shadowleaf]

The man smirks. "You should know - peons are not assassinated. Your marks are not just joe smuchks, they are people we want removed for a reason. However, if you are interested, we do have a perfect opportunity for you to prove yourself."
He slides over a document.

[Heian Naïlo]

Sam takes a look at the document. Sorry if I implied your employer's quarrels were petty.

[Shadowleaf]

Name: Henrich Gerhardt
Profession: Cleric of Pelor
Protection: Possibly guarded by a Paladin of Pelor
Pay: 500 gold.

"I don't care. My employer isn't listening."

[Heian Naïlo]

How will I contact you when this man is dead?

[Shadowleaf]

"We have a house on Broad Chase. It has a caduceus drawn over one of the windows. Come during the cover of night. Knock twice and say 'The raven is no more.'"

[Heian Naïlo]

I will be there when the mark is dead. With that Sam heads to leave.

[Shadowleaf]

"The door behind me will take you to the entrance of the Maid and the Mermaid."


You had not noticed the door behind him before, but now that he mentions it, you do see the frame. You head through it, and suddenly you are on the street outside the Maid and the Mermaid.

With the target in his mind, Sam made his way to the only lead he was given on his target, the temple of Pelor. All the while Sam thinks about how best to eliminate the target, and possibly his target's paladin.

[Shadowleaf]

The Temple of Pelor is very close to the Maid and the Mermaid. A few hundred feet north, turn west at Ezekiel's Supplies, go west a few hundred feet, take the first left, and you are there.

You pass a large beautiful lake and lots of impressive trees and grass areas on the way to the temple. The temple is the biggest temple in Sesbury, and is well crafted and impressivly big.
The outside of the temple is adorned with Pelor's symbol, gothic style gates and large oval windows. Two large pillars flank the great door on the front side of the church. There is a 10 feet high fence enclosing the area. You only notice one gate at the center of the eastern wall.

Several buildings dot the south of the area, still within the fence. They are rather large and well constructed - looks like an estate of some sort.

So that's probably where he takes up residence, best to scout out the area first though. Sam heads toward the gate with his hood off, making note of security's density.

[Shadowleaf]

Two guards with banded mails, longswords, shields and tabards of Pelor flank the gate. They nod and smile as you pass by them.

The courtyard in front of the temple buzzles with activity. There are a few armored men walking around with the same gear as the gate guards, there are men in cleric vestments, nuns and commonfolk.

On the north side of the courtyard is the actual church, on the south side there is an estate of some sort.

A terrible explosion suddenly rocks the entire city, and the ground shakes as if an earthquake were tearing the city apart. The sky lights up from a blast many times the brightness of the sun, and you are certain that certain death has at last come to claim you. As the brightness fades, you look toward the Mages' Quarter and see the last remnants of the horror burning directly towards the sky in a seemingly endless stream of raw, burning mana which threatens to tear reality asunder. What seems like an eternity passes as you stare, though it is likely only a few seconds, and at last the blast fades away. In the distance, you hear a building collapse, and you are certain that something horrible has been unleashed upon the city.
