No, it was a joking reference to the fact that the male has poisonous barbs

I'm from a country with two poisonous spiders (I think, it might be only one), no snakes, pretty much no animals that might kill you. I was questioning my sanity in moving to a country where nearly everything is poisonous. And if it's not, then it's big and hairy like the huntsman spider that took up residence on our curtains earlier in the year.

I've seen a Platypus in a river once. I've also seen two half-burrowed echidnas (one in the middle of my primary school ) and a small penguin catching fish just under a pier. I watched the penguin for god knows how long. Daaaaawwwwww....

Aha! I've seen wild echidnas before! And my nephew played tiggy with a couple of extra-friendly ones in Tasmania. I'll see if my sister has photos online...

edit: I don't think this is the occasion I was thinking of, but oh well:

I haven't seen the ones around here stick thier heads into fences. There are usually half a dozen or more kangaroos outside my house most nights.

Rule of thumb for Australia. If it isn't poisonous, it either hates you or is the Sun.

    I noticed

It was cold this morning and I wished summer was here already. Then I remembered how much I hate the heat...

I have seen a grand total of one kangaroo in the wild. And it was last year. I was childishly excited and my husband made fun of me.

Penguins I've seen heaps of - but in NZ that's not difficult.

I see at least one kangaroo pretty much anytime I'm on the road in the evening... And I also see a whole lot of 'roos every day I go to uni, cuz we have a 'roo-and-deer park at the university.

Every now ant then I'll see a bunch of Kangaroos in the paddocks next door to my grandma's house. They own a few acres. Pity it's all dense scrub and trees. Still fun to walk around in though.

Whenever I go to Canberra, I see dozens of the things. They like to hang out on Soccer fields in the early morning.

And of course, you have to make sure you don't hit them when driving past, because they will hit you back, then hop away.

This is why I live in the suburbs. Far less things want to kill me here.

Emu chicks are the cutest thing ever and I won't hear any argument otherwise. But seriously, I've seen some emu chicks in the wild while traveling around the north of WA, they're seriously adorable.

Incorrect. The things that want to kill you in the suburbs are just smaller and less obvious.

Except the spiders. The eerie red glow of their lifebar tells you were they are.

    Thank you

Don't worry, at least if it's in writing, I can make you say it in the proper accent I mostly get people asking me to count to six, or say 'fish and chips'. Unfortunately for them, I'm not an idiot and I won't fall for that.

Then of course I go home for a visit and get mocked by my sister for having an Australian accent. I just can't win...

But she's never seen a kangaroo bounding along in the wild, and I have. So she can't win either.

Finish my History homework. Finish my Commerce homework. Clean up Science book. Study for Maths test. Walk down to river and look for Platypi, or ducks, if there are no platypi. Stare at this message board for an hour or two while procratinating. Find out how to spell procracinating or however you spell it. Post in PbP games. Forget to do one of the above.

My life is both boring and hectic at the same time.
