OOC: Based on Pavick's perception role in the OOC thread.
From down the tunnel at the bottom of the stairs, Pavick hears a rustling noise. It sounds like there might be something down there that's headed this way.

Pavick - Gnome Wizard
HP 42/42, AC 18, Fort 16, Reflex 19, Will 20
Pavick moves up the stairs, taking a place next to Lucan. "Watch out, we were followed up the tunnel. Don't know what it is yet, but maybe Jamil can hold it off for a moment." His hands flutter over the surface of his orb and an illusion of Jamil holding a longsword stands at the bottom of the stairs, ready to fight off whatever might be coming up the hallway.
He then turns his attention to the bald cultist that is still cross-eyed from Shep's powerful swing. Pavick mutters a few words of arcane power and suddenly the man's double vision of Shep takes on an illusory life of its own, swinging at him again.

Re: Adventures in Fallcrest - IC - Part 2 [4E]
DM Post
Unnoticed, Zyrr slinks up next to Nilsa and slips the wire around her neck. The half-elf flails as the drow chokes her, but she is unable to make a sound.
Shep, with the strength of a hundred angry goats sends his crook down on the bald cultist's head with a *crack* sending the human stumbling back in pain. The cultist barely has time to register what happened to him before he is met with a righteous blow from Eltain, the blade digging deep, and sending a stream of blood from the human's side.
Aramil, overcoming the odd warding hindering his teleportation, sends his blade deep into the Eladrin. As Aramil's follow-up attack digs into the Guard's side, the light around the Eladrin's missing eye flares brightly. The Eladrin's skin begins to bubble, and with a burst of power, the skin of the Eladrin guard is shed, and a hideous reddish-brown creature that had been using the Eladrin's body as a shell is exposed. the creature bares it's fangs at Aramil, and you see claws where there were once hands. The burst of power catches Aramil by surprise, and sends him flying back towards into the alter (10 damage)
Lucan, seeing that Zyrr needs no help, focuses his attack on the former Eladrin Guard, and has no trouble planting an arrow in the creature. Pavick, however, is less fortunate, and is unable to convince the Bald Cultist of the faux-Shep.
The half-elf, Phyl, gives a smile and slides up next to the swordmage as it draws a rapier in it's right hand, and a hand-crossbow in it's left. With a smirk, it jabs with the rapier while simultaneously firing with the crossbow. The crossbow bolt goes wild, but the rapier manages to catch Aramil in the leg (11 damage). Even as he stabs the Eladrin, he takes a quick step back to stay out of range.
The Bald cultist, hurt badly by Shep and Eltain, swings at Eltain with his scourge, the barbs on the end tangling into the Paladin's legs. (11 damage - immobilized & -2 penalty to attacks til the end of his next turn). With a shout of triumph, he focuses for a moment, and teleports to the back of the room, far away from the Paladin's sword and the Monk's crook.
Nilsa, frantically clawing at her throat, also focuses and is successfully able to teleport away. Gasping for air, she hurls a curse at the swordmage who marked her, sapping away his resolve, and leaving holes in his defenses (12 damage -2 penalty to defenses (save ends)). With a hiss, she mutters a command to the zombie on the far side of the room, and points to Zyrr.
The human on the far side of the room looks at the group crowded together, and gives an evil grin. All around Shep, The air freezes solid. The Monk and Bard are able to dive out of the way, but the shards of ice gather around Eltain and Pavick, freezing them in place (12 damage - immobilized)
The former Eladrin guard takes a swing a Aramil with it's oversized claws, but the Swordmage is able to duck just in time. As the swing goes wide, Lucan's arrow in the monster's side glows slightly, and the monster tumbles to the ground.
Finally, the two zombies shamble into action. The one closest to Eltain moves forward, but the Paladin is able to defend himself with ease. The Zombie directed towards Zyrr, however is more fortunate, and punches the drow in the face. (7 damage - marked)
From the bottom of the stairway, the sound of leaves grows even louder, as a pile of brambles, branches, thorns and vines suddenly envelops the illusion that Pavick created. An angry growl sounds from the pile of thorns as it realizes it's prey was not real, but it slowly begins to turn, and make it's way up the steps.

Re: Adventures in Fallcrest - IC - Part 2 [4E]
Zyrr nods his head at Nilsa, a sure gesture of respect, but whatever he was going to say afterward is interrupted by a grunt as his face meets pallid zombie flesh. The drow sneers and whips his garrote back to his belt. In the same motion, his free hand reaches for a curved blade sheathed on his leather vest - a kukri. Zyrr flicks the blade upward at the zombie's jaw, stepping back at the same time and completing the maneuver by slipping his arm into his shield.

Pavick nods his agreement with Lucan. Suddenly this doorway did not seem like a great place to be. Feeling the odd magical currents in the air, caused by the misfired trap, Pavick decides to try to ride on the arcane winds to a position inside the room. He closes his eyes tightly, willing himself to be further into the room, but when he opens them he sees he hasn't moved an inch. "Well darn," he says.
He glances back at the shambling mound looming in the stairwell. "Well if I can't move, neither will he." Two icy rays of white energy shoot from Pavick's orb. One is aimed at the mound, the other flies into the room targetted at the zombie next to Eltain.

Lucan had shouted, and the North wind subsided in the Shepherd's arm. He turned his head. Someone had died. Someone Lucan had known by name, and the look on his face spoke no lies. Brave Lucan, to fight on at the sight of his friend falling in combat, truly he is worthy of the compassion of a shepherd. The Shepherd softened his gaze, and looked upon Lucan with admiration and overwhelming respect for his friend. He steeled himself, rising up proudly, lifted by the passion of the bard. Re: Adventures in Fallcrest - IC - Part 2 [4E]
DM Post
With a flick of his Kukri, the drow pops the head off the zombie, causing the undead monster to collapse on the floor in a heap. Eltain, however, his sword glowing in holy light, vaporizes the shambling creature in front of him, leaving it as nothing more than a pile of dust.
Aramil blinks around the room, his blade meeting flesh with every stroke. Despite the terror that sends him stumbling back from the human cultist, his follow-up charge causes the human to grunt in pain.
Lucan, in a glorious act of retribution for the death of his imaginary ally, sends an arrow through the remaining eye of the former Eladrin guard, the monstrous beast twitches for a moment, then lays still.
Shep, inspired by Lucan's heroic deed, charges the large pile of leaves and vines, and with a quick strike followed by a clever dodge, causes the shambling mound to attack itself. Unfortunately, the Mound manages to dodge it's own vine, and the attack goes wide.
Pavick, despite his failed teleport, sends a blast of ice towards the shambling mound, freezing it in place, while the other blast shoots off harmlessly into the main room, its intended target now dead.
Phyl gives a curse as the Eladrin guard falls. "Do you have any idea how long it took us to find one of those?" he asks, incredulously. He dashes in between the two half-breeds, raises his hands, and slaps the ground. A thunderclap erupts, slamming into Eltain and Lucan.
The pair are able to avoid it, and it looks like the effort left Phyl a bit disoriented (he grants combat advantage). With a growl, he pulls out his rapier, and plunges it into Lucan (12 damage), taking a quick step back as he does so.
The bald cultist, limping badly, decides not to take any chances on the Paladin that just incinerated a zombie, and instead moves up to attack the Drow with his scourge. His injuries are too much for him, and Zyrr dodges the attack with ease.
Nilsa attempts to take advantage of the curse she placed on Aramil, and utters a foul word that burns the Swordmage's mind. The attempt is weak, as Aramil has no trouble ignoring her. She turns to see what has become of her zombies, and after giving the Paladin a dirty look, she utters a command word, and the zombie that Zyrr had killed begins twitching.
The Human Cultist, shocked that Aramil still managed to hit him, takes a step back. His eyes grow green for a moment, and Aramil begins feeling pain rising up in his body. (11 psychic damage)
The zombie in front of Zyrr reaches around for a moment, searching for its missing head, but it eventually finds it, re-attaches it, and stands.
The Shambling Mound pauses and mends of it's own wounds, but now sensing something edible, sends out two tendrils of vines and thorns towards the Shepherd, attempting to latch onto him. Two thorny vines dig into the Goliath, drawing deep wounds. (12 damage after "Stone's Endurance"). The vines drag Shep forward as the Mound opens it's maw wide. To the horror of Pavick and Lucan, the Plant-creature pulls the Monk inside itself, and completely envelops Shep.

He ignores the sounds behind him for now - surely that head's just taking its sweet time stopping. After his attack, Zyrr spins again and notices two things. First, the zombie he just re-killed now needs to be re-re-killed, and the lady that trivially vanished from his grasp is doing far too much talking for her own good. As such, he ignores the zombie and makes his way toward its mistress.
SpoilerUsing a basic melee attack on Mr. Clean and, depending on whether he's alive, will either shift to G8 or move to H5. Remember that Zyrr has Death Attack: if an enemy he hits with a weapon attack that deals damage, and the damage dealt brings the enemy at or below 10HP, he may automatically kill the target.

Pavick - Gnome Wizard
HP 30/42, AC 18, Fort 16, Reflex 19, Will 20
Pavick glances down at Shep and the plant. He wanted to help, but the cultists were a more immediate concern. Seeing that Shep has escaped he calls out, "Shep get away from that thing!" then he darts into the room. Skidding to a stop in front of the closest foe. He thrusts his orb toward the half-elf and a loud bang issues forth, pushing them back.

"It worked!" Lucan shouts. "I brought him back! Thank the gods!"
Relieved that he's brought Shep back from the dead, Lucan looks around the battlefield, seeking other targets. He sees Aramil move like lightning, but he's off a beat, and Lucan plucks his bow to correct the rhythm.

Re: Adventures in Fallcrest - IC - Part 2 [4E]
DM Post
Zyrr's kukri digs deep into the bald cultist, causing the man to give a yelp of pain as the Drow slids away.
Aramil dispatches the Zombie with ease, but even as the Human Cultist prepairs to dodge out of the way of the lightning bolt, a quick arrow from Lucan digs into the man's side, and he is unable to dodge.
Lucan's next arrow proves as accurate as his first, as he sends the bolt into the pile of vines. That attack proves to be the opening that the Goliath needs, as he scrambles out of the Shambling Mound.
Pavick has little trouble moving forward and blasting the Half-Elf out of the way, receiving a murderous look from Phyl in response.
Eltain, now free to move where he wishes, steps forward in front of the Drow, but the Cultist proves too fast for the half-Eladrin.
Phyl loads another bolt into the crossbow, and takes aim at the impudent gnome, and fires, catching Pavick in the leg (12 damage) and quickly moves back next to the bookcase.
The Bald Cultist lifts the scourge to attack the Paladin, and brings it down hard on Eltain (13 damage -2 to attacks til EoNT). With a shout of triumph, he limps away
Nilsa gives a frustrated sigh, and repeats the command word to the zombie, which starts to tremble again, and repeats her attack on Aramil. The foul word injures Aramil, though not as much as she'd like (11 damage)
The Human Cultist smirks at Aramil "Yes, I do." and with a flash teleports across the room. As he appears, he summons up another storm of ice that blasts around Pavick, Zyrr, and Eltain, freezing all of them in place (18 damage - immobilized til EoNT). The blast hurts the drow and the half-Eladrin, and just as it begins to overwhelm the gnome, a burst of music from Lucan surrounds him, and sheilds him from the ice.
OOC: See Lucan's immediate reaction below
The Shambling Mound raises up to attack Shep, but suddenly pauses. The heap of vegitation trembles slightly, the frantically begins slapping out the smouldering leaves inside of itself, and flings the flint down the hallway. With a cry of rage, it again tries to attack the Monk. The first swing goes wide, and the Monk easily dodges. The second swing smacks the back of Shep's head with a *twack*, causing the Goliath to see stars. (18 damage)
OOC: The flint & tinder won't do damage, but it will prevent the Shambling Mound from using his regeneration at the start of his turn

Re: Adventures in Fallcrest - IC - Part 2 [4E]
Zyrr AC 22, Fort 16, Ref 20, Will 18
Zyrr snarls as ice falls all around him, freezing his feet to the floor in a clear sheet. He looks around, first to the cultist that did this to him, then to the one that escaped his grasp. He smiles at her. "If you can do it, I can do it too!" The drow closes his eyes and wills himself closer to his quarry.

Re: Adventures in Fallcrest - IC - Part 2 [4E]
The blow startles the Shepherd, and the winds swirl about his head, clouding his vision. He stumbles, clutching his temple, waiting for the pain to subside. The violent winds about his head calm, drifting back to the earth's corners; the Shepherd breathes in their last wisps--he rises to his full height, cracking his neck like the settling of the mountain peak. The crack is an echo, trailing down the mountain's side in slow, turbulent flight. The stones settle, the sounds of breath fade; there is no Shepherd, only the mountain, and the mountain looks down upon the twisting forest beneath its mighty roots.
The mountain regarded his green brother beneath him, he laid down his stones and his winds. Why must the great mountain quarrel with the sprawling forest, why must the great oaks crash against the hard stones? The mountain spoke calmly to his sibling, the rumble of the stones his offering of peace. Too long have the mountain and the forest suffered together equally at the hands of mankind; even now they chip away at their feet just over the closest horizon. Too long has the suffering of either brother gone unheeded, unnoticed, their blood shed upon the face of the earth whilst they can only scream in silence. The mountain looked upon the forest with the serenity of the icy peaks, the wisdom of the silent crags; they should be silent no longer.
The mountain called to the forest for aid.

Lucan - Half-elf bard
AC 22 Fort 16 Ref 16 Will 19 HP 39/51
The music of battle surrounds Lucan. Fills him. It is chaos. It is death. It is beautiful.
Listening to the music, moving with its chords, Lucan joins his own music to it. His strong voice is just strong enough to change the song and keep an ally from falling.

Lucan - Half-elf bard
AC 22 Fort 16 Ref 16 Will 19 HP 39/51
Lucan watches in awe as Shep attempts to commune with the shambling mound. Either he's crazy, or enlightened. With Shep, it's hard to tell. Either way, Lucan decides to leave it to Shep, and hurries into the room.
It's utter chaos, and it takes Lucan a moment to get his bearings. First things first: Eltain clearly needs healing, and Lucan's happy to provide, singing a few notes of restoration.
Next, he turns to the nearest enemy, and he fires, then shouts over his shoulder to Pavick, "Get him!"

Pavick - Gnome Wizard
HP 28/42, AC 20, Fort 18, Reflex 21, Will 22 (Includes Second Wind)
Pavick sees his life flash before his eyes and he is sure he is on death's doorstep for a split second that feels like an eternity. Slowly the notes of Lucan's song invade his thoughts and he realizes somewhere in the back of his mind that he is still alive and still standing. "Okay, breathe Pavick. Breathe. It's okay for now," he thinks as he recenters his energies to continue the battle.
As his mind comes fully back to the battle, Pavick hears Lucan's voice yet again. This time enlisting his help with the human cultist. He nods his head and dashes up to the man. Pavick lets loose with another loud burst of energy that knocks the cultist back toward his female friend.
