Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Hey guys. To those of you who have started a successful universe I was wondering if you'd like to contribute to a list of questions I've been drafting for people who want to post new FFRP universes. It would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully this can become a useful resource for the future of FFRP
Universe Creation list:
Property of Celtois Corp ©
The W's
Who: What sort of characters do you want to see in your world.
-Character creation sheet
It never hurts to have one pre-designed for your universe
-Special rules unique to your universe related to characters
Are all characters Velociraptors? Is divine magic allowed, etc.
-Feel, what sort of feel do you want with the characters is this a more serious universe where tragic characters would be welcomed or would you like more comedic characters to inhabit your new universe
Where: So what exactly is this world of yours?
- Obviously where is is set? A small border kingdom in the middle of nowhere?A giant demiplane that is a huge gladiatorial arena, a space tricycle?
-Is there a particular genre that it fits in? Or is it like the nexus a big wobbley blend of genres
-On a broader level what are the basic understandings of the world and it's history.
When: When is this when is that, and so forth?
-When is the time period, is this the age of steampunk. A primeval world, or somewhere in the future?
-When is it in the course of history, is there anything important that happened before the current time period that the players aught to know.
How:
-So just how are the characters involved in your story, or the world?
-Why are they needed?
-What are the characters going to be doing?
The meta game aspect
What:
-What makes your universe stand out, how is it unique?
Why would I choose your universe over on of the countless other ones.
-What ooc assumptions are being made in your universe? Are there rules that all the characters are too follow. A storyteller or do all the stories originate from the players themselves.
-Does your world have a story? If so what does the conclusion of it mean.Avatar by me

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Indeed multi quote is one of the greatest things to happen in a while
Okay so I've dug up all the old Metro threads.
List:
Metro OOC
Metro Registry
Metro Residence #12 Highburn Street
Metro Lucky Luigi's Diner
Metro Random Locations
EDIT:
There is also | Metro The Hollow
(Of these are there any that you think I shouldn't revive with the rebirth of Metro?) So far I was thinking of leaving Lucky's to the dust since it was a player run Cafe and I don't think Two Bit is coming back. However a Cafe or Tavern might not be a bad thing to have.Last edited by celtois; 2010-12-13 at 10:57 PM.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
There has to be a tavern. Which would be a cafe in a modern world. All adventures start there.
And my character could even be a waitress.

If you need me somewhere, don't hesitate to PM me. I have bad mental health days sometimes, so if I vanish that's probably why. PMs will help break me out of that.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Actually just did a bit of searching around in the threads and found out there was a tavern that I had failed to recall.
It's called The Hollow
Link to OOC thread from way back then due to it being relevant to seeing if people are interested.
OOC Thread Read OP
There is a certain dystopic feel to it that might not appeal to everyone. It's also generally pretty serious.Avatar by me

I like the looks of it. I think we could stick with the same outline and everything.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
That's what I was hoping. But it depends on how many people would actually go for the whole Dystopic future feel, and how many would prefer a more light and airy justice league style universe.
(I'm so in favor of going the dystopic route if you couldn't tell. )Avatar by me

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
It's the brain child of two players who used to play here.
Being that it is there baby and I only played in it I'm not the best person to explain it but I'm one of those who still remembers it.
If you want to see what Kael, one of the creators has to say about it. He talks all about how it works and the idea and history in the first post of the OOC thread which I linked earlier on this page.
It's essentially a city setting, with a dystopic totalitarian government. It's full of people who have special powers as a result of genetic mutations who are imprisoned there so they can't threaten society.Avatar by me

So it's basically a prison-city for mutants?

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
I'd prefer a slightly more X-Men/Heroes-ish feel, but I could work with the dystopia.
The character I have in mind is actually a variation on Shrike, for those who know her, or rather her pre-Exalted version, as a teenager with zappy electrical powers who can also teleport herself through power lines.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
I actually like the dystopia - it gives it a unique feel. From what I've read I was pretty much right about that "Prison-city for mutants" thing, and I think that has a really cool feel to it...
That said, I'd have to drudge out so many power-concepts and try to see if I could make any work

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Yeah prison city for mutants is a pretty accurate descriptor of the whole place. It's kind of a reverse of the whole high fantasy you often get in the nexus. Down dark and dirty. Which is pretty cool.
I was thinking of grabbing Lightning Lass and having her be broken, in Metro, Just another person who's life and hope has been shattered by the darkness of the Metropolis.
Course she'd start out as a hero. Before being broken by the good detective.Avatar by me

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
I keep trying to think of something, and I keep thinking of some dude with minor auditory powers who runs a rave warehouse/nightclub deal. I don't know why 'dystopia' instantly provokes images of raves with shady things going on in some back room with the pounding of the beats dull against the walls...
Man, my brain needs to start working with me.

If you would like to see what other people have done I can link you to the old character registry.
While all those characters won't exist likely when the reboot happens. But they might give you some neat ideas. I can also link you to some of the darkest RP that went on in Metro if you'd like, it was pretty. Disconcerting to say the least.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Hi, all! I'd like to start playing here. :) It should be noted that this is also more or less my first time doing ANY online roleplays that aren't over e-mail with one real life friend. I think I can handle it?
So, in terms of the type of game I'd like to play, I'd be interested in a standard high fantasy game. Are there any going on?
Failing that, I've always been curious about some kind of magic academy type RP.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Standard answer would be Nexus.
Specifically you could try PACK the Perfectly Appropriate College for Kids. They have magic lessons along with standard schooling.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Well the NEXUS is something I would have described as high fantasy.... a while back. But post empire it has shifted even further to complete free form. It's generally a high power. Heroic/Vile game. That is fairly light and fluffy.
It has characters from all sorts of genres and time periods. Basically if something has existed anywhere there is a good chance you might find it in the NEXUS.
If you aren't used to FFRP you might find the lack of plot weird at first. Basically you have to just have character goals and work your way into things that are related to your characters as you go along through interaction with other PC's.
I'm not the greatest example here so I'll let one of the RPers who actually player regularly answer your questions but I hope that helped.Avatar by me

Glad to have done you some good then. I'd suggest Trogs as a starting place. Given that it is a nice neutral ground.
There is some truth to the idea that all adventures start in a tavern.Avatar by me

I am another player who would be interested in the Metropolis idea, if you are still just looking for higher numbers. I'm always trying to come up with new ways to show off old powers.
You're either an Outcast, or you're in denial.
Strength and stupidity in numbers.
