Just wondering if anyone on these forums was from the Stony Brook area, or Long Island in general. I've just started grad school over here, and I've been having trouble finding a D&D group.

Usually, threads of very specific geographical nature aren't allowed, and most likely will end up getting locked.

What you can do, though, is post a notice in the Finding Players (Recruitment) subforum, that you're trying to put together a gaming group in Long Island.
As KuRentshin said, the mods usually limit "local-interest" threads in the Friendly Banter forum to regions no smaller than a continent (so you will, for example, see "Australia itP" threads, but "Ireland itP" will be closed.) Just to clarify, mucat has it right, that you ARE allowed to post that you're looking for a local D&D (or any other) type game in the Finding Players (Recruitment) forum.
