Hey Slev, good news: The Pyro sombrero is turning out to be such a common hat that it's almost worthless. You should have no problem trading for one.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
For those who have played The Sacrifice:
SpoilerTake a closer look at the Tank that you release from the train, if you haven't already. It's wearing shorts and has (obviously broken) arm shackles on, but most notably: It has a long, straight, stitched-up surgical incision right down the middle of his chest.
Also, a Tank standing on regular ground just threw a dirt clump at me while playing the Sacrifice, as opposed to a chunk of concrete. I presume this is one of the many thus-far-unmentioned additional changes that came with the update. I like it. Magically digging up concrete from everywhere and anywhere Just Bugged Me.Last edited by The Linker; 2010-10-06 at 05:29 PM.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
So are people still playing L4d2?
I was thinking of buying it with the new sale if:
There is still a gitp server, the link on first page says the server is not found.
If it doesn't require a mic
And if any of you are willing to play with a complete noob like me. I swear I'll only shoot you in the back by accident. Not that the chances of it occurring is less than 100% (please tell me that there is a friendly fire off option.)
hmm, maybe I'm not the best person to play this game with, but it looks like so much fun. It's like coop minecraft, without the mining, right?Last edited by Forbiddenwar; 2010-10-06 at 05:52 PM.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
No, we don't have a server anymore. We gave that up because it was getting little use.
However: We still play L4D2. All the time. The way this game works, it doesn't really matter what server you play on and who owns it. It's not like Minecraft, in that people join servers that have other people, or join servers on their own and wait for someone to show up. You organize a group of four (or eight if you're playing Versus), then just pick the map and difficulty you want and the game picks a server somewhere, and you hope everyone has playable ping.
In the same vein, servers won't 'require' a mic, only your teammates can enforce that. And folks in the Playground are way too easygoing to prevent anyone from playing because they don't have a mic.
And while I may kill a crapton of zombies, I get more than my share of friendly fire. Don't worry about it too much -- at the difficulties I'm sure you'll be starting at (Easy, Normal) a game will never be decided by accidental friendly fire.Last edited by The Linker; 2010-10-06 at 06:01 PM.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
There isn't (unless you're playing on easy mode, which is far too easy), to be honest friendly fire isn't going to be too much of an issue (the game is rather forgiving in that respect with exception to expert mode where failure is par for the course).
Biggest challenge is playing infected well during versus mode, really need to work as a team there.Steamname: Atheist God, if you're lucky.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
If anyone's got a Vita-Saw I will trade hand over fist for it. Same goes for a Danger Shield and Bushwacka (and the hat, if you've got it). Here is my backpack.
Also, looking for a Shortstop and Eternal Reward, but those are less important.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
Don't worry everyone.
Civilization has not yet collapsed to the point where I am capable of exchanging virtual items within one game for another game.
However, I have otherwise purchased L4D2.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
Oh cool. TF2 servers in the playground. I want an honest answer: is it a good server? Is it one of those "Sir Swearalot" places where trolling and micspam makes you friends?
P.S. Yes I want Bill's Hat please. Also put myself in the spreadsheet.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
It is the best server. No, really. Cursing isn't encouraged, but allowed in moderation. Trolling and micspam get you kicked or banned, depending on severity and frequency. We're friends playing together to have fun. I've rarely had a bad experience on ChHa, and, if it happened, it was corrected quickly.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
I am not on as often as I once was, but I promise you that I come down like the proverbial ton of bricks upon trolls, pointless micspammers, and "Sir Swearalot." Others here will vouch for it...we run a pretty friendly ship here, and, as the benevolent tyrant of the server, I damn well enforce that.
Ingredients
2oz Djinn
5oz Water
1 Lime Wedge
Instructions
Pour Djinn and tonic water into a glass filled with ice cubes. Stir well. Garnish with lime wedge. Serve.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
I'll back up what everyone else has said. ChHa is the only server I've found with stringent rules and moderation. We have rules which we make readily apparent to the pubbie (and forumite) population, and we enforce them. Homophobia, racism, sexism (to an extent, depending on the mod and the comment), verbally degrading team- and opposing-team members-- we don't tolerate them.
Both ChHa and SHaFT were down today and I went looking for another server. I found one that I was pleased enough in the past to join their group and add them to my favorite servers, but was dismayed to hear them throwing around "r*****" and kicking members (it was a joke, I heard) with "reason: gay". I'll be thrilled when Steam will let me online so that I may play on our nice, respectable server again.

I.
HATE.
MY.
DORM.
I went over to the computer building to leech off the good internet because that was the only way to get l4d2 to install in time, and when I got back the game was already full.
Now I've missed the best first playthrough of the Sacrifice that there was ever going to be.Avatar by K penguin. Sash by Damned1rishman.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
Had a game of single-player L4D2 No Mercy earlier. We got to the sewer entrance, and just before jumping in, a Charger came, uh, chargin' -- grabbed Zoey, dropped through the sewer grate, and kept running down the tunnel. I don't mean in a glitchy, drop-down-while-still-moving-forward deal. This guy came to a dead stop, fell down, and then resumed running.
Will have to try that.
Also, just had a match of TAAAAAAAANK on Dark Carnival where we made an extremely impressive showing in the finale as survivors... until Tank!Djinn noted we hadn't actually turned it on for the past five minutes we'd been fighting. :<Last edited by The Linker; 2010-10-07 at 09:02 AM.

Re: [Steam] Thread XVI: The biggest in-joke in gaming
Did I mention that in No Mercy last night, Jibar, Fawkes, xp194 and I were travelling about the level, when Jibar, xp and I decided that standing next to the Petrol Station was a good idea. Fawkes thought it prudent to shoot the pumps. Just once.
The entire place exploded, DESTROYING the three survivor ragdolls and obliterating our team with only ten shots. Fawkes then suicided by standing on the burning wreckage of the petrol station roof.
FUN TIMES.
