Manhunt
THE BIG 16:
1. What game system are you running?
D&D 4.0
2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers"
or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game
(eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting,
alternate reality, modern world, etc.)
Lets call it a manhunt. Homebrewed. On an island (big). Geography has
plains, mountains, caves, cities (2), outposts, cliffs, maybe more.
3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking
alternates, and if so, how many?
5 (Chris, Jack, Matt, Zach, Tommy)
4. What's the gaming medium (OOTS, chat, e-mail etc.)?
OOTS
5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)?
5
6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin
with?
Gear from PHB 1, 2 or Adventurers Vault. Get 1 6th level, 5th level, AND 4th level magic item. (that is one item from each level) You have gold equal to the price of your 4th level item.
7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders,
etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on
'prestige' and/or homebrewed
Choose what you want except:
Psionics
8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game?
Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?
PHB 1 and 2 only. No Shifters
9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability
scores and Hit Points?
Point buy
10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?
Don't care.
11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in
regards to it?
I guess if you REALLY want to.
12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of
the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If
players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they
make the rolls, and how should they report them?
Honor system. We don't play to cheat. Report the roll with all
modifiers. Make a special note on 1 and 20. I'll ask for passive
insight and perseption to start. Make the normal die rolls like skill
checks, to hit, saves, damage.
You should make the rolls in the following way: picking up the di(c)e
(preferably the correct one(s)) and then make a sweeping motion with
your arm releasing the di(c)e during the sweep. Note the number that
is at the greatest elevation.
Report rolls in spoiler.
13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your
Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide
relevant links to learn about these new rules.
Nope.
14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you
looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up
with the characters in the same city)
Background? Do we even need that? Roll playing? What's that? Give me a
background. I don't care how long. You will be in the capital city for
the first quest but I don't care how you got there.
15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving,
roleplaying, or a combination of the above?
I loves my hack and slash. It won't be as puzzle heavy as Chris's
stuff. There will be problems to solve but I'm not feeling too many
"puzzle" puzzles. Roleplay. Do it. It will be more fun for all.
16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and
supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material?
What sources can Players use for their characters?
PHB 1&2 only. Adventurers vault is ok too.Last edited by Bearclaw; 2010-09-16 at 09:10 AM. Reason: Starting gear added

Background
The island is pretty big. There are cliffs to the south east, mountains to the North West, and plains for the most part with a lake in the middle. The capital of the island is in the south central region. It is called Neotross. There are four roads leading from the capital, passing through four outposts (Milbrandt, Sess, West Lake, and East Lake), and ending in the North at a larger fort (Fort Tremp). The roads are largely used for travelling merchants, movement of troops, and generic supply routes. (Map coming)
The island was colonized many years ago, but was destroyed due to disease, extreme winters, and frequent attacks. 15 years ago, the Pantross king came to colonize the island. The Pantross kingdom was not fighting another war in the homeland, so more resources were allotted for the colonization process. The King himself came to the colony to oversee it more directly.
The King Mintos, who lives in the south, has recently (~2 years ago) been launching a campaign to civilize and secure the entire island. Much of it was inhabited by nomadic people and villages of native Shifters in the mountains. Most, but not all, have been conquered or chose not to fight. Many native people have been assimilated into the Pantross society. They mainly reside at the outposts. The entire population of Shifters opposed the King but 80% have been killed. Recently the Kings forces have been depleted by new threats on more fronts and he fears he may lose the colony if the problems and not be stopped. The King also suspects that another kingdom might be supplying and aiding resistance fighters in an attempt to weaken the Pantross nation.Last edited by Bearclaw; 2010-09-15 at 01:48 PM.

Re: Manhunt
Name: Pepito Vicente AKA EL PATO ENMASCARADO
Occupation: Professional Wrestler
Race: Human
Class: Druid
Age: 40
Height & Weight: 6'5'' 270 lbs
Wild Shape: Platypus
Signature Move: Body Slam
Character Sheet
Pepito was born to a family of a tribe of natives who lived on the lake near the eastern outpost. Central to this tribe's culture is the noble tradition of masked arena wrestling. As a child Pepito learned to wrestle from his father, the famous EL OSO LUCHADOR, who was undefeated up until the final match of his life...
A mysterious gang of shifters arrived at Pepito's village one day and challenged EL OSO to a match, knowing that the champion would not refuse. EL OSO easily defeated them all in turn, until finally there was only one particularly sinister shifter left to fight. Just as it looked like EL OSO had him pinned, Pepito saw the shifter's fangs lash out and poison his father, who was immediately and permanently paralyzed. Unable to continue his career, Pepito's father lost the will to live and wasted away.
Filled with rage and hurt, Pepito retreated to the desolate lakeside, where he discovered his unusually strong connection with nature. Over many years, he taught himself the ways of the druid. Since then he has taken up his father's mask and journeyed around the island wrestling as EL PATO ENMASCARADO, the Masked Duck-Man, seeking vengeance against the shifter that killed his father.
He currently works the wrestling circuit in Neotross, saving his money and listening for word of any shifter activity.Last edited by SpaceHamster15; 2010-09-17 at 01:32 PM. Reason: Grammar and additions

Re: Manhunt
Stephan
Stephan walks slowly through the streets of Neotross, his height letting him easily see his destination: The Trundell Tap. A hard days work behind him, he settles in to a pint of ale and quietly ignores the wretched singing of a tavern wench.

Acheron
A fatigued Acheron enters The Trundell Tap and looks about at the unfamiliar room. He makes his way to an unoccupied table in the corner. He sits with obvious irritation until is waited upon.
While waiting for his water, he pulls a small, hollow, wooden tube from the depths of his robe.

Manhunt
Micheal Derving walks in the Trundell Tap, a filthy hole for the lower castes. Seeing a giant figure, compared to his petite stature, he turned around quickly and went to the bar across the road, the Llednut Bar(an equally filthy bar, but has cool golden stools). Sitting down he grumbles "Why did I move to such a miscreant infested place?"

Re: Manhunt
Pepito Vicente, or as he is more widely known, EL PATO, rolls off his flattened sparring partner and steps out of one of the dozen sweat-stained rings in this dark and smelly warehouse-turned-gym. Pausing at the window near the street, he absent-mindedly pats the moisture from his neck with a old towel as he watches a giant, a midget, and an eerily masked man head into the bars a few buildings away. A cold drink would be a fitting end to a day of workouts in this stuffy place, he decides.

Re: Manhunt
Inside the Trundell Tap the air momentarily brims with energy. In a small flash of light and smoke Caesus of the Frostwolf clan lands on the floor in the middle of the bar. He grunts and mumbles something about mage portals under his breath as he stands up, dusting himself off. He suddenly looks up and is shocked by what he sees.
"Wha...? This... isn't Orgrimmar."

Re: Manhunt
The ale tastes quite good. Probably the best thing people make in this city. However the taste of good ale and the great feeling of smashing an opponent is soon overwhelmed by the shrieks of the citizens outside. People are fleeing to the south in a panic. The people in the bars get extremely scared. The owners of the gym, Trundle Tap and Lednut Bar all move to secure their doors with tables and chairs and whatever else lies around.

El Pato
The screams of southbound citizens reach El Pato's human ears, causing him to pause in the untying of his mask. Appearing in the gym's doorway with the towel still about his shoulders, he urgently inquires of a passing evacuee in a sexy hispanic accent: "Citizen, what's happening?"

Joyed with the fact that he might be able to show off his magical prowess Micheal Derving leaps from his golden stool spilling his ale all over the floor, racing to the door. He listens to the terrified shrieks of the other citizens, "ALAS, MY SERVANTS NEED ME!!!!!", he bellowed.

Re: Manhunt
The citizen who El Pato yelled at replies "AAAHHHH!!! We're under attack!!" and continues to run down the street. The gym owner sprints to the table by the door and starts pushing it to block the doorway. The yelling in the street becomes slightly quieter by about 3 voices as the attackers cut down the fleeing people.
For Micheal:
SpoilerYou see and orc (A), 3 lizardfolk (B), and an iron cobra (C) killing the citizens.

Re: Manhunt
The iron cobras metallic form looks at Micheal and decides he would make a tasty snack.
One lizardfolk continues to maul citizens. The other two are not fazed by the explosion next to them. They are too concerned with the large platypus attacking their companion. They rush over to El Pato and thrust at him with their spears.
The Orc moves south and points menacingly at Stephan.
The Cobra bites at Micheal with his iron jaws.
The bar owner of the Trundle Tap blocks the front door with a table.

Re: Manhunt
The second lizardfolk dodges out of El Pato's swing. Slippery lizardfolk are hard to hurt. However the Iron Cobra is not so graceful. El Pato hits the Cobra with enough power to knock him silly. Fire from Micheal burns everyone in its area. The third lizardfolk never saw Stephan's pick. He won't get the chance because his brain remains on the end of Stephan's pick. The first lizardfolk now recognizes a more pressing matter; a giant humanoid is killing his brother. The second lizardfolk, now quite bloody, slides gracefully away from Ret'gar and joins his brother in combat against the giant. Seeing an opportunity to hurt many enemies at once, the Orc calls a hammer to the earth next to Ret'gar knocking all around the spirit prone. The Cobra wastes no time attacking a prone Stephan. His bite sinks into Stephan's skin and venom oozes into his veins.
