AvB - The Deadly Docks

[Rizban]

Sheathing his weapon, the half-drow takes out his wand and walks over to the dying woman. He mutters an arcane chat and taps her with the wand, her wounds slowly start to heal. He then repeats the process on Hagan, healing some of his wounds as well.

After looting dead human's corpse, Hagan infuses his armor with Bull's Strength and lifts the unconscious merchant into a fireman carry.

"Let's get out of here."


"The name's Tim, by the way." Says Mr. Blue Platemail, who follows suit.


"Greetings Tim, my name is Kel. Now how shall we begin to seperate this bit of magical weaponary?", the half-drow states.


The acid spitting girl speaks up as the group begins to move out. "Ah! These skulks appear to have some sort of magic armor. Help me pull it before we run." She helps the bard to her feet as she regains consciousness, then the two begin stripping the armor from the fallen skulks.

Kel waits for the women to finish removing the armor from the skulk's corpse, he eyes the armor subtlely. He takes up a rear gaurd position as they all leave, his greatsword is sheathed but his hand never strays for the hilt of the great weapon. Whenno one is looking ,he pulls up his goggles to cover his eyes.

If I may ask where are we going and how soon until we get there? I am fearful for the merchant safety.

[Rizban]

"Somewhere, anywhere, we just need to get inside. Find a small building nearby..."

[planswalker]

"Indeed we need to move. My fly spell wore off, or I would try to carry us out one at a time."

The group notices that the nearby buildings have shuttered windows and barred doors.

[Selinia]

Estellise coughs slightly, shaking her head groggily as she rose.

"Ach, no complaints there. Some rescue that turned out to be, getting ambushed trying to save someone from an ambush." She winced again, clutching her gut. "Celestia, that hurts. But thanks. There are an awful lot of buildings around here, and I have to agree that stepping inside would be for the best. There could be more of those... things. I'm not picky here - fine inns they may not be, but I'd not turn down the first accessible door we find. Preferably unlocked and unoccupied, but I think we may need a slightly broader definition of 'accessible' at this point. I don't like the thought of putting others in harm's way, but I think our best bet is getting shelter from a local."

Looking around, she takes in the aftermath of the battle. Glancing at her companion, she voices with genuine concern. "Hey, Marion, you okay? Glad to see you did a little better than me." Estellise lets out a chuckle, quickly regretting it as it becomes a nasty cough. She takes a moment to regard each of her apparent new-found allies.

"Well met, everyone. I think I owe my current state of well being to at least one of you, so you have my thanks. I think I may be able to get us some shelter, if no-one objects to me trying my way. Someone is bound to take pity on some poor souls stuck outside in the dead of night - we'll have a roof over our heads in no time."

[planswalker]

After taking the loot off the corpses, the group of us hears footsteps clattering our way from the south. The unmistakeable sound of heavy armor is heard.

[RandomAction]

Oh great! Is it the watch? You know they will never believe I didn't start this. Is anyone here fluent in smooth words?

Kel keeps a hand upon his sword expecting the worst.

[planswalker]

Tim stares out, readying to help out if trouble starts.

[Rizban]

"Probably better armed skulks... or worse. There's no Watch out at night in the docks. Let's move, now."

Kel looks over the group and he can tell that they cannot handle another bout of combat. Quickly looking around for a way out of there, Kel motions for the group to follow.

Our first order of buisness should be getting out of here and finding a place to rest up. Then we need to figure out what exactly are each of us doing here in the Docks, late as it is.

[Rizban]

"First building we can get into, we take it. That's my input."

Hagan tilts his head to the side and touches a small tattoo on the side of his neck. It briefly emits a faint glow then vanishes.

The group begins to run away, opposite the direction of the heavily armored pursuers. It seems as if all the buildings are barred and shuttered. After about a minute of hard running, the group comes upon a dingy looking tavern called the Red Rose. where lights can be seen within, though there are curtains over the windows hiding the inside from the street. A sign on the door says, "Open"

Hagan infuses his dorje with magic, takes a deep breath, then quickly shoves his way through the door.

Inside, a large crowd of dirty, rowdy dockworkers seem to be drinking beer and watching a fight between two lizardfolk on stage. You notice a distinct lack of humans among their population.

[RandomAction]

Kel enters the tavern behind Hagan. After glancing around the room, he looks to Hagan and whispers:

I don't think this is going to be a good idea. We should keep moving, or I can rent a couple of rooms with everyone else disguised as something other than human? In case there are any human hatersin the crowd.

[Selinia]

"This place may be rough, but it's a better bet than the streets. If we run in to more of those creatures, we are essentially dead - worse, they might well be looking for us now. We downed a not-inconsiderable number back there. Give me a shot - if this doesn't work, we can hit the roads again. If it does, just... go with it."

Deftly slipping into the crowd, Estellise works her way towards the proprietor. Along the way, she subtly slips a few pins from her carefully braided her - not undoing the braids completely, but loosening up enough of her vivid red hair to toss over her ears. Muttering a brief arcane mantra, she does her best to quietly signal whoever seems to be in charge of rooming. When she properly gets the innkeep's attention, she addresses him politely, with a professional tone.

"Sir, my friends and I would like to book a room. We are newcomers to the area, we came in late and apparently offended a local gang of some sort in record time. We were attacked, and badly injured... all we need is a place to recuperate. We can pay well, and we will keep quiet - all we need is a room to lay low for what remains of the night, then we're off to the markets.

There was the odd lack of humans, but she didn't feel a need to draw attention to her own heritage. At least, not until it became a problem - this could well just be a neighborhood with few humans, for all she knew.

"How good is the pay you're talking about?" The half-ogre who seems to keep things in line says.

[Selinia]

"What is the current going rate for a room? Our work has left us... if not well off, at least able to cover our expenses - I'm sure we can meet your going rate for a night, plus whatever you think fair for the inconvenience of sheltering us. I am certain you can make a reasonable offer."

[planswalker]

His eyes light up when you say that you have money. "If you want rooms without windows, and with your kind in this part of town at night, plus the trouble you're already in? 1000 gold. Apiece." His greedy eyes seem to say that such situations as what you currently find yourselves in are rare but lucrative.

A large, black-scaled lizardfolk behind the bar says, "Me want watch fight. Pay rooms if fight!" It's clumsy ringer is pointed drunkenly in our direction.

[Selinia]

"Thank you. Give me a moment to confer with my fellows - that is a steep price, but I think we will be able to come through." With a nod, she slips back to the group.

"Well, the good news is that the innkeeper isn't prejudiced - he's greedy. He is willing to shelter us from the skulks - I get the impression that he has done this before, actually. The bad news is that he's charging a rather... unpleasant fee. 1000 gold apiece. I can pay for myself at least, but I do not think Marion can. On the other hand, a lizardfolk apparently is willing to pay our bills if one of us fights in the ring down there."

Estellise shrugs. "What do you all think? I might be able to talk him down on that price, but going much further probably means magic - and things can get ugly if magic gets involved. We can pay our bills and shut up, or one of us still in possession of most of their organs can take the lizard up on his offer. Or we could try the streets again, I suppose."

[planswalker]

"I will most definitely rather use a few more spells than have to waste money on getting gouged." Tim supplies.

[Rizban]

"I say we take up the reptilian on his offer. Let's see who our opponent would be then choose who would do best again it. I would suggest Kel, as he is the strongest fighter and has a few tricks up his sleeves.

What do you say, Kel? What kind of shape are you in?"

[RandomAction]

A moments rest is all I need, although If I had a little healing I would feel somewhat better on my chances.
My little tricks, as you say, will be ready for this bout. If this beast wants blood for our rest, then I will try to fill his belly. Find out more on who or what the opponent will be so I can prepare better and what kind of battle are they looking for. Blade, spell or both?


Kel looks to the group with determination in his eyes. Pulling the goggles from his eyes and his hood back, the young half-drow reveals his heritage proudly.

Hagan grumbles to himself in frustration then puts his hand on Kel.

"Hold still."

A second later, a tattoo crawls its way down Hagan's arm and leaps over to Kel, where it embeds itself in his skin, glowing brightly for a moment before vanishing.

"Sorry, but that's the best I can do right now... I can do more to prep you once we know who you're facing."

[Selinia]

"Give me a moment." Weaving through the crowd, back to the lizardman, Estellise sought the attention of the obviously ale-addled creature.

"Pardon, but I think our group may just take you up on the offer. However..." She glanced up at the makeshift "stage" serving as a center of attention in the room. "...we would like to know what the conditions are, precisely. Do you wish to see a duel? Would you prefer spell or blade-work? Is the payment conditional on victory?" Estellise coughs at that moment, wiping away a few flecks of blood. "And of course, is there anyone in particular you would like us to fight?"

[planswalker]

"You fight? Me pay for you if you fight. Me wanna see you fight. Me wanna see you fight.... Drusla and Pike. All of yous fight, RIGHT?!" The last word is bellowed good-naturedly.

You get the feeling that what limited wits he had have been addled by whatever drink he's had by the gallon.
