The food, being primarily dried meats and bread, sinks to the bottom, slowly running downstream pushed by the gentle current.

"What a great plan. Can we move on now?"

"Yes. That was...rather unhelpful, wasn't it? It is likely nursing it's wounds. I guess we should move on for now. Perhaps leave something to mark the area if we come back this way again, we can try to discover anything more about it." Sheathing his sword, Dethir indicates he is ready to move on, and does so, this time remaining as a rear guard.

With a sigh the scholar looks back to the darkness ahead, "Onwards, then."

[Admiral Squish]

Again, a faint shuffling and clacking can be heard from up ahead, where the passage widens into a flattened space, much like the rat's home earlier. However, this one looks significantly less vermin-infested.

"Knowing this sewer, there's something horrible on the ceiling waiting to fall on us," Puck says cheerily. He peers about, trying to identify the source of the noise.

"There does seem to be an uncommonly high concentration of dangerous creatures just below the city streets. I suspect the streets are not safe at might because of more than just thugs in alleyways." Looking around, Dethir attempts to locate whatever is making the faint noises.

As you peer around the corner, your eyes are immeddiately drawn to the flickering, reddish light of a torch halfway up the ladder to the surface. The light reveals the purple robes of a small figure muttering dwarven curses as he tries to climb the ladder with one hand, the other clutching the torch.

Dethir

Taking in the situation, Dethir's suspicions are immediately aroused. To the other around he whispers, "Be careful, this may be another test or sewer creature. That sounds like Dwarven to me, and no dwarf would need a torch to see down here. So why does he struggle with it? Its likely some sort of trap. Suggestions?" Carefully, he draws his bow and fits an arrow to the string, ready to take a shot but not taking aim just yet.

Puck steps forward and calls out to the robed figure.
"Hello there my fine sir or madam! If you could just stop climbing now, and come back down for a moment so that we could speak with you, I and my friends with wands and bows pointed at your back would greatly appreciate it! Are you a student, by chance?"

The small figure turns on the ladder, revealing the large nose, eyes, and pointed ears that indicate gnomish blood. Another dwarven curse as he sees the man with an arrow trained on him. "Oh, hell, you're some of those hunter-guys aren't you? Please don't kill me, I don't even have my medallion anymore!" The gnome whined, freezing in place on the metal rungs.

With an almost hyena-like laugh the jackal headed man shakes his head, though does not step from behind his more heavily armed companions, "Who else would be wandering about in the muck with all the nasty dangerous beasties that seem to be down here, but those seeking medallions? Such a question!"

[The Antigamer]

"Come on down, let us make sure you don't have a medallion, tell us where it is now, and you're free to scamper back up that ladder. Iron and blood, I know I wish I could."

[King Tius]

Lania lets Puck do the talking but keeps her sword out in case this guy tries to pull anything fishy.

[Admiral Squish]

Slowly, the gnome clambors awkwardly down the ladder with rungs spaced a little too far apart for his small legs. He holds his hands up, one hand still holding onto the torch. "Look, I swear I don't have it anymore. There was this giant freakin' snake-thing back there. Tore my robes and snagged the medallion, but I managed to get away from it, thank the flame. I've had enough of this place, I just wanna go home. I don't even care about the extra credit anymore." The gnome squeaked out.

[King Tius]

Lania pulls out her holy symbol and shows it to the gnome. "Swear by the Flame that you do not have the medallion and we will let you leave unhindered. Were you hurt? I can mend your wounds."

[The Antigamer]

Puck smacks his hands to his face and groans.

"A snake-thing? Where was it? And was it in the water?"

[Admiral Squish]

The gnome looks up first to Laina as she approaches, holding up a hand. "I swear by the flame I don't have the medallion anymore. and no, I wasn't hurt. It just tore the hood off my robes." The gnome explained, turning to show the shredded collar and scratches along the back of his neck. When puck added his commentary the gnome looked puzzled. "Just back a little way down the tunnel. I was trying to get out of this place as fast as I could. And yeah, it was in the water. How'd you know?"

Face still in his hands, Puck replies, "Oh, I'm just psychic I am. A veritable Seer."

[MammonAzrael]

Dethir

Lowering his bow, Dethir lets the line go slack. Not finding any threat in the gnome he relaxes his guard. "You were trying to leave? Did the Academy not warn you of the dangers lurking down here, or provide you any protection from them? Or did you simply think that without your medallion there was no point in remaining any longer?"

Putting his weapons away, the huge man lets a gentle smile come across his face. "From everything we've seen down here, it seems like the Acadmey seems to have little regard for you students. Do you happen to know of any of your fellow students, and where they might be?"

[Keld Denar]

The gnome looks down again. I haven't seen anyone else. He hops nervously. Can I go now? I just want to get away, get safe, and get warm.

[MammonAzrael]

Dethir

Nodding, Dethir pats the frightened gnome on the shoulder. "I don't see any reason why not. We aren't that far from the Academy, I would think we're still near a safe part of town." Glancing around the sewage, he chuckles. "Safer than down here, at least. And certainly better smelling."

Looking at his companions, the huge man waits a moment beforestepping away from the student. "And unless someone sees a reason not to, I think we need to head back down that tunnel."

[Admiral Squish]

The gnome eagerly nods and starts back up the ladder, his progress as slow and awkward as it was before, but eventually he makes it up, struggling briefly with the manhole cover before vanishing completely from sight.

Puck raises his face from his hands.

"Why would a giant freakish tentacle even want a medallion?"

He sighs and turns to walk back the way they came.

Looking back at Puck oddly, Dethir notes, "I suspect it was just looking for a meal, and was left not quite empty-handed." You can hear a slight undertone of amusement in his voice as it echos softly down the sewer tunnels.
