Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
I decided to kick-off a game of Jockeys in L4D2. After watching the other team get all the way to the end of Dead Center 1, past four jockeys and a tank, I thought we'd do well. I'll let the screenshot speak for itself:

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
I'm glad we agree.
Next turn, humans declared war on the Iconians. The Yor get worried about Iconian expansion, and attack the Iconians, asking me for help. In the same turn, the Altarians and Drath declare war on the Yor, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Thalans soon pick a fight with someone.
So yeah, everything exploded in the course of two turns. I'm torn between helping the Yor (who have been fantastic allies so far, and have the strongest army around) and "if anyone needs me, I'll be way over there." I wouldn't hesitate about helping the Yor, except for three things.
1: Everyone likes me right now, and I've been doing okay with pacifism (the Drath are neutral, everyone else is at least a little better and often much better).
2: War has an indiscriminate 5% tax on all factions involved for 5 years, at the moment (a turn being a week).
3: I'm worried about getting the same dogpile treatment.

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
The Believers always had too much population for me to lead the UN. Plus, no one liked me since I never shared my supertech with them
Whenever I did lead the UN I always melted the ice caps and flooded the world though, as my cities could survive flooding while the AI could not. Then I just rolled in with my helicopters while everyone was still stuck on the ground.
Man I loved that game.

I'm fairly sure that's one of the games you can activate on steam. Unlike any game I have outside of steam. Ever.
Yeah, you can. Lucky bastard.

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
If I had the appropriate expansion, I could use a Terror Star instead. They're like nukes, except not. Remember how nukes devastate large areas?
Terror Stars cause a star to go supernova, wiping out the entire solar system around it. Fun times.
'Course, seeing as I have the largest amount of votes by far (the UP doesn't have any leader as such) that'd be unwise. Managed to refute that law, by the way. The Yor (the robots in that picture) have an uncanny habit of voting exactly the same way I do, without fail, even if no one else does.
But I'm a pacifist. A pacifist who is falling over himself to get everyone to make peace with each other, while handing out small, non-military tech gifts all the time and never doing anything to harm anyone, least of all my remarkably happy population.
The game rates me as "demonic". Go figure.
Also, since then, they mostly tried to make peace all around. Then? The Iconians declare war on the humans (they just made peace last turn, at the insistence of the vastly more powerful Iconians), and the Yor (likewise, only the Yor are more powerful here). Shortly afterwards, the Altarians declare war on the Yor again, as do the Drath. The Drath declare war on the Torians for no reason at all, and the Torians surrender a turn later, giving the Iconians everything they own. Because the Iconians really need more power.
Meanwhile, being on good terms with every civ around means I get incessant requests to the effect of "help us, corporate space-Sauron, you're our only hope". So far, I just give them some terraforming technology and send them on their way.
I mean, I can't give them military tech, that'd be irresponsible. And inappropriately relevant. I'm hoping that this and farming tech will get the subliminal "swords to plowshares" messages through.
Edit: The Altarians (who resemble humans that believe in a religion of sunshine, rainbows and presumably ponies) just gave me the following message: "your benevolence has won the admiration of our people and we would like to present you with this token of our good will towards your wonderful culture." While giving me free money to the tune of 1106 bc.
Funny, I thought I was incredibly evil. Oh well. Maybe it's diplo-speak for "please don't hurt us."
More edit: "We admire your power and wish to offer you this gift in recognition of your greatness and peaceful nature!" Thanks, Iconians, but I'm finding it hard to appreciate a gift of 4bc.
That, and if you admire peace so very much, stop going to war with everyone. Including, most recently, the Krynn for no reason. Seriously, warmonger much?Last edited by Cogwheel; 2011-01-25 at 10:16 PM.

Magicka is pretty fun; it's tragic that the multiplayer is so glitchful

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
To describe in more details:
You're a wizard (or four wizards, if you have friends) who combines elements to cast spells.
Right click fires a spell as a projectile, middle mouse casts it on yourself, and shift-right-click casts it as an area spell.
So, for example, Arcane+Fire+Projectile makes a flaming laser beam, while Arcane+Cold+Water fires necromancy icicles.Avatar by K penguin. Sash by Damned1rishman.

And I see it has a demo, too. *downloads*
I write a gaming blog. It also hosts my gaming downloads:
Fatescape - FATE-based D&D emulator, for when you want D&D flavour but not D&D complexity.
Exalted Mass Combat Rules - Because the ones in the core book suck.

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
Magicka looks crazy and fun, but only once they get multiplayer working properly.
Also, the demo lags my entire system for some reason. Currently at a windowed 1280x800, Medium, Medium for graphics. Any idea what's up?Last edited by AlterForm; 2011-01-26 at 04:47 PM.

Okay, so I messed up with screenshot editing. All the same, I think some of you might recognize one of the custom flags for GalCiv2.
