Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
Here is my first try at OOTS style art. For those who don't read the comic Goblins, thats where the three on the right are from. I smudged some of my ink outlines.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
Long post this time. Been busy. All avatar requests. The first one is an Eladrin fighter for Megatron46. Second is a holiday remake for Bel Gareth, followed by a rogue for Vixsor Lumin and the newest one is a character of Campbellk8105's.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
I just want to say first off that there's a lot of beautiful work on this thread, keep up the amazing work everyone.
I just wanted to pop in and share this little graphic I cooked up after being inspired by the song "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO. The big difference being that when it comes to rogues... they don't need to shuffle:) Enjoy!

Dude. That is awesome. You should totally submit that the the current Iron Avatarist... I can almost guarantee that you'd win a prize for that. Awesome.

@^ Probably, certainly worth a try though.

Was some time I posted here so I thought I'd post a few pictures I've made lately which I'm quite happy with.
And of course the stained glass window I made as a trophy for the Iron avatarist competition "For Goodness sake" and refined into an entry in the current one. Dang, I like it so much.

I'm having some trouble getting the perspective on the backpack right. And his hat sorta looks like it's floating above his head instead of fitting snugly on it.
The hat is suppose to be a fishing/bucket hat like...

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
I've used Inkscape before, but it's been years since the last time, and I was never really happy with my results back then. This is my first avatar I'm proud of, and the first one I've made in years: A Dwarven Cleric, turned Wight.
I've been thinking about adding lines of dried blood in his beard, but it didn't look good... anyone have any ideas on how to make it look good? Or Evil, I guess...
The cleric is part of an adventuring party that was slain in battle and reanimated. I'm using the avatars as miniatures for my Skype-based game. The cleric has a friend, a half-orc Barbarian I just made:

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
Ooh, these are really good. Quite simple, but quite honestly, I much prefer simplicity when it comes to OotS avatars. In fact, I can't find any real nitpicks that stand out. This is odd because I can almost always find something to suggest or point out. Very nice overall.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
Guess I'm harsher on myself than you are, since I thought the orc's axe was too big and his mouth odd
I change him a bit in the avatar: Added a cloak, a scar, and fixed the axe and boots. I'll post a big version once I have the full undead adventuring party done.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
It seems to be a common trait among artists to judge their own work the most harshly. Besides, orcs are allowed to have giant axes.
But now that you mention the mouth, there is one thing you can do. Try moving it into the head more, at least so it isn't almost touching the outside of the head.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
The orc's axe is fine, but the mouth is odd. Here, I, uh, have a thingamajabber for this.
Spoiler
Damn, that thing's starting to get useful.
Also, a really minor nitpick, but I'd suggest rounding off the ends of your lines, like the eyebrows and mouths and such. I'm sure someone else could pop in and tell you how to do it in Inkscape, because I sure as hell can't.Originally Posted by Lord Magtok

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
*strides on in*
You can round off corners and ends of lines in Inkscape by going to the Line and Stroke menu (Shift+F) and looking under "Stroke Style"; you'll find "Round Join" and "Round Cap", which will make things look a little less spiky.
Looks pretty good, Babale. The only suggestion I can think of is to round off/change the Dwarf's beard into a more coherent "flowing" shape. It looks rather sharp for a mass of hair .

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
I actually worked on the orc for a while with my friend who's been doing this for much longer than me, and who actually has more experience. He helped me with the mouth a lot, although this guide is EXACTLY what I was looking for before. Here is the updated orc:
Gave him a scar to add some detail, made the axe more detailed, and (hopefully) fixed the mouth. Also, added a cloak, made the boots bigger.
EDIT: Just noticed the beard comment. Yep, he has an ugly beard... I was modeling his beard on the Wight's hair :P
If anyone knows a way to make his hair even MORE messy (I was thinking about white strands, but that didn't come out right... I just got the idea to have single hairs (1 px jagged lines, same color as hair) coming off the side... What do oyu guys think?Last edited by Babale; 2011-12-31 at 12:15 AM.

I made one of my current Pathfinder character, an albino half-orc wizard. Sleeves are a bit off, but overall I think it's not bad...

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
Indeed. Broken down into its parts it seems amateurish and not altogether well done, but it's got an overall goofiness that's hard not to find charming.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
I decided to draw up a character for a Planescape campaign I'm going to participate in. I like the general looks so far, but I feel like something is off. I would very much like some C&C especially on the hair and colours.
In game terms, he's a Dragontouched Human Bard. He is wearing a Cloak of Charisma, a Studded Leather Armor, a Shortbow a Lute and a Lyre.
I've tried giving him some scales and a slight grey tint, since he is related to a silver dragon.
His hair is supposed to be newly shaven.
Spoilered for size.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
@Above Post: Looks pretty good. The edges are a bit rough at points, but the color scheme is pretty nice. It does seem a little hectic around the torso though, and the armor looks a little strange, but I don't have much imagination when it comes to studded leather (throw some dots on it and I am done). I think the hair looks great as well, but the scales throw me a little. Is the white/silver around it intentional? I would suggest trying blending the colors so it merges a bit better and see how that looks. I haven't tried anything like that, though. I also love the shoes.
For mine, I came back after a while and all my avatar URLs were messing up, So I though I would make a new one. Decided to go with one of my MMO characters.
He was supposed to be an elf, but I forgot about that until after I made the helm and I was not making earholes on the thing.

Hmm, been a while since I've posted here I think? I've been mostly just taking requests from people to counteract my own flakiness / lack of inspiration.
