We decided that after four hundred years of marriage, Mrs. Claus was rather disgruntled with Santa, especially after hearing that Mommy was Kissing Santa Claus. Also: This character has her own reasoings and stuff. Smooth talk her onto your side temporarily, and you can spend time outside combat explaining everything and getting her to agree to going further.

The woman had a good attitude. A good bow arm too, if her threat had any merit. It was, all in all, something he'd rather avoid having to find out first hand. Naktem's version of "diplomacy" wasn't really helping, in that respect. Maybe he could appeal to her sense of logic? She seemed reasonable. A bit paranoid, but reasonable.


We're just here for the monster that's swinging at you. All you need to do is stand down and let us deal with it and we'll be off in no time.

Sure paranoia was great, It had kept him alive more often than he'd have liked to admit. At some point though, you just really had to trust the things that you were seeing. A giant man-horse swinging an axe the size of a pony at your skull seemed like a pretty good place to begin. Hopefully, she'd see things the same way.

At any rate, the middle of a fight wasn't really the best place to stop for a nice chat. Or to have an unrelated standoff. Hopefully, she'd see that too. Hopefully.

That chanting mage was really distracting him. Maybe, if he ignored the man, he could pretend like he didn't notice him? No. With the way this group seemed to work, the man was a sure fit. That hair was a definate sign. The sheer nerve (insanity?) of stopping to meditate in the middle of a battle was another pretty good indicator.

He'd just go over, say hi, and then get away after some pleasantries. Easy.

The monster attack happened AFTER I got removed from the village, which (in FE tradition) happens after Tinsley's recruitment works. You can't use it to argue as a point for me to ally with you, because it only happens after my character agrees to help. This is part of the reason that my character isn't really reacting the people referring to it. It also makes what should be a fairly straight forward communication between one character and another extremely complicated.

I'd be throwing aside Synthia's characterization if I wasn't playing her as ornery and super protective of her village. She's paranoid and doesn't particularly like the outside world, mostly because the outside world tends to disrespect and trash her village.

ProTip: Don't flinch.

The woman ponders for a moment, seemingly taken aback by the offer.

And you won't get it.

She shifted her aim very slightly and loosed her arrow, which would miss Tinsley by inches on its current path.

"I am very sorry if Tinsley said anything to annoy you, see he has the reather nasty habit of doing that. My name is Layla. It would be nice if we weren't enemies. It be better if we were allies. Wouldn't you agree?"

I'm going to be very blunt here for a second. Nobody else in this game cares for actual game mechanics. At all. We're here to roleplay, not sit there and go "Wait, they aren't next to each other." "Wait, this is a recruit conversation." If one of our characters sees their ally being threatened, don't expect them to just sit there and let it all work out.

Then perhaps it's better if you forget I was involved; frankly, if you won't allow mechanics to supplement fluff than my RPing style won't work for this group. This happens sometimes for everybody, and it's always better to remove the cause of friction than risk a fire.

Firstly, the mechanics to Fire Emblem already hardly make sense. Myrmidons/Swordmasters move fast enough to appear to be in three/five places at once. Heroes have magical levitating shields. Throwing Axes return like boomerangs after hitting the opponent. People can see through walls to attack people on the other side. Not to mention that if we take the battle screens at face value, the characters are far enough away that an archer should be able to shoot from one space away.

Second, as much as it's fun to use mechanics to supplement fluff/roleplay, it's way more fun to not let them get in the way of it. That's why we have people running off into the woods and having conversations while across map from each other.

Third, we get XP for roleplaying; we're not gonna let a little thing like game mechanics stop us from getting it.

Finally, we've stopped treating this game seriously a long time ago, and that's kind of what makes this fun. You're kinda throwing a wrench in that for us.

That being said, I really have no problem with you staying with us... just take a chill pill and we can work things out.
