Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
So, once I get some free time, I want to work on the wiki. Does anyone have an opinion on whether we should use the existing one or switch over to a new host?

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
But is it truly documented, episode by episode, to analyze the exact formula that somehow manages to make full-grown men and women fall helplessly in love with a TV show about magical ponies?
I'm a fan of the 'discuss ponies all weekend' plan. I know we already have a pony thread in Media, but discussing it here could make up for the total and complete lack of anybody to discuss it with in real life! They just wouldn't understand.

How about some classic DD strip slays, only with pony captions instead?

Google continues to be amusing. "Dominic Deegan terrible" shows up in the suggestion box; apparently even Google is a snarker.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
I was going to go to bed, but I decided to download and learn to use GIMP instead.
It crashed like five times whenever I tried to save the image and I had to restart my computer once, but I FINALLY got it.
Spoiler{Scrubbed}
Original text was "I'm a pegasus" but I decided on 'pony' instead. Is it better or worse this way? Or should I have used a different word entirely?
YES THAT TOOK TWO HOURS OF EFFORT. STUPID GIMP.
I've been vastly enjoying the ones you've posted so far.Last edited by averagejoe; 2011-02-22 at 01:54 AM.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
At the time, I was somewhere in 2009. Now I am nearly all caught up. I felt not really so that it felt like it was going downhill, moreso that a lot of the latest arcs feel out of place with the feel the earlier ones had. It's like there's certain "eras" to Dominic Deegan:
- Just For Pun, where it focuses prettymuch on day-to-day pun stuff with no plot
- Gradually more serious-feeling arcs, starting from when Luna became a regular (which I don't think was a bad thing, though at the end I realized I missed the regularity of the puns to still keep things a bit lighter-hearted), though the tour-around-the-world arc suddenly turned things around (I also personally think he should just have left dragons out of it)
- Dominic Deegan Without Dominic Deegan, which is prettymuch all of 2010 though prettymuch all after the tour-around-the-world stuff seemed to lack Dominic a whole ton. The arc with Karnak was pretty swell yeah, and Gregory's was fun, but they felt kind of out of place.
I am at the first of this year's comics now, so I'll be caught up soon. Wonder how things are gonna be heading now, though from what I've seen of it every time I go to the main page it seems to be going back to more serious stuff.
One thing I have always liked about Dominic though, is that if he gets a major power boost, it is always just temporary. A few seem like asspulls though, but that can happen, and others seemed quite well-planned.Homebrewer's Signature | Avatar by Strawberries

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
So help me God, I'm so bored this sunday I'm going to read DD. So far I could only cope with the first couple of chapters. But now I want to see the whole thing in all its glory.
Maybe I'll post some...observations later.Bad to the Bone!

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
Due to the length of the whole thing I forgot a lot of stuff, but I don't mean power-ups just for Dominic. Didn't Luna get one along the Maltak arc? It felt a bit of an asspull there, but in hindsight I could see where Mookie was coming from. It was just that the whole stuff with tuskmouth couldn't have been some foreshadowing up to that point, due to how far back it goes and Mookie is no Thunt in writing. There's prolly more such things when you look at more characters involved, especially now that apparently Miranda is also stronger somehow.
I just remember that there are a whole lot of times where Dominic has gotten all shiny or huge and most of those times it wasn't entirely from his own power.
Also, the last arc with Karnak made me think if this whole thing was about an evil seer instead things might be much more interesting. (Then again, I loved the moments where Dominic acted like a puppetmaster. Just as planned.)Homebrewer's Signature | Avatar by Strawberries

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
So I read the first three chapters.
Chapter 1-3: Lunas mother is abitch...er...witch
Terrible art, but it the beginning of the comic, so this might be excused.
So far we only have Dom and Spark, the talking cat. Dom's customers are apparently retarded. Terrible puns, although a few of the strips are kind of funny.
Siggy is introduced. He quickly turns out to be a colossal jerk and kind of retarded. He beats up Dom for no real reason. We also got two thiefs, Bumper (Dark hair, palm haircut) and Stunt (blonde), who are retarded. Then we have Miss Croona Travoria. She is supposed to be ugly, but it's kind of hard to tell due to the art. She is also retarded. And a witch, since she curses Dom so fish fall on him. Luna is introduced. She is so ugly, she
tries to kill herself.
Overall the plot is progressing OK here. That is, up to the point where Dom for no apparent reason has a vision that Luna's mother wants her to kill herself. Who is granting Dom this knowledge? Apparently, he now has detailed knowledge about everybodys innermost thoughts and motives. Dom knows all. Even Luna protests this...Omniscience.
Anyway, Siggy resolves the plot by killing Lunas mother, who blurted her evil plan out in front of Siggy like the moron she is.
Dom and Luna fall in love. Fair enough. And Doms customers are morons once again. The circle is complete.
Thoughts:
What happend to Stunt and Bumper? Are they even alive? Why did Siggy beat up Dom when they first met for no apparent reason? He does not seem THAT unreasonable in the rest of the chapter. He actually lets Luna get away with kicking him in the nuts. I kind of like Siggy. My only real complaint here is Doms omniscience. But it's a big one, because it kind of kills the plot when Dom just knows who the bad guy is and why.Bad to the Bone!

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
It's getting slightly harder to resist this pony fad...
To explain my opinion, it's not that Dominic got a love interest that's the problem. I think it would have been better to have this preceded by some development for Dominic instead of just having it happen right after the first arc, but let's be realistic here - the comic was blatant wish fulfillment back then, so this was bound to happen. The dealbreakers for me are that Luna is a terrible character and the whole thing is basically a sort of knight in shining armor story, only rearranged for a scrawny nerd in place of the brawny knight.
Man, are you in for a ride.Last edited by Johnny Blade; 2011-02-20 at 03:26 PM.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
Sig beat the crap out of dominic for daring to suggest that he might lose the fight he was about to pick. Thats Sig in a nut shell. He is a hot headed, violent bastard on a hair trigger. As for what happened to bumper and stunt, read on, they show up again shortly. As for Dom's visions, its a running theme. He can choose to see what he wants to, but every now and then he gets visions of very important events that he isnt aware of. Things like Lunas attempted suicide. We can assume he looked into it a bit more deeply, which is how he figured out mommy dearest was behind it all.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
Chapter 4: The Gregory-is-in-trouble arc.
Dom's younger brother Gregory is in trouble! Dom to the rescue! Again, who is granting Dom these visions at convinient times? Some powerful god must like him. Luna is in tow. Holy crap, Dom can teleport! But only to points that are "bookmarked", so it is not a total game breaker.
Stunt and Bumper is back! They are pissed and I don't blame them seeing how Dom treated them last time. Fortunatly, they are still retarded, so they are no threat at any point.
Dom once again uses his superknowledge to solve the plot. They meet the Sylvan Oracle. Take 254d12 pun damage.
Aha, the real villans arrive! A fight erupts!
Uh...Dom is impaled by the infernomancer and is spitting blood, and yet he is still smug? Greg banishes the infernomancer and accidentally heals Dom at the same time. Dom is smug again. What? He didn't think Impaling himself on the infernomancers weapon was a bit risky?!
Stunt and Bumper is MIA again, last seen being chased by a beserker with a big axe. I think this is becomming a running gag (Take 1d12 pun damage).
Thoughts:
My biggest complaint here is Doms plan. It...well, it speaks for itself, really. Let's just say that impaling yourself on the enemy weapon should not be plan A. It should probably not even be on the list. Besides, between Dom, Greg, Luna and that Dirk tree-ogre guy, they had plenty firepower to take on the bad guys head on.Bad to the Bone!
