Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
I.
You.
What is this I don't even.
I love how Dominic is summoning shadows out of nowhere specifically to provide mood lighting. There's no way that you can tell me that there's any sort of sane light source here.
Maybe this is like a beauty pageant, only for ridiculousness. Both contestants have strong entries.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
The comic just looped around.
This has gone from so bad it's funny, to so bad it's a trainwreck, to so bad it's beyond human comprehension and is thus pretty goddamn funny in its incoherence.Hall of Honor:

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
Ok, I just thought this over.
I knew I remembered hearing "Believe it, *something.*" in this comic before, and after trying to remember for a few, it finally came back to me. Guess what it was.
And so, I must say: Bravo, Mookie. You kept the ruse up for quite a while, but your slip has caused your clever trolling to be revealed to us all!

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
Now that the initial shock has worn off, I've got a bit more to say.
Soon after I joined the threads, I felt like DD got into a rut of mediocrity. Thankfully, it has worked free, and plunged straight into terribadiculous.
This is the basic weakness of running off of "what's cool". I've given up on my NaNo attempt as a novel (there are other media/genres in which the power levels would be more acceptable), but I feel no shame in bringing it up to make points. I'd say that all of the main characters were worse than Dominic, broken power level-wise. However, I had a clear idea of what everyone's powers were, so there was never any reason to pull stuff out like that. Actually, now that I think about it, there was one point... the weakest/second weakest main character suddenly manifests some crazy new powers that weren't really hinted at... as a result of going insane. Everyone else has to do cleanup. So, powering up a main character on a whim didn't solve any problems, and, in fact, created conflict, which was the idea.
(Edit: My thought process was basically "How can I make things go terribly wrong for him? I know! I'll have him freak out and telekinetically maim everyone he considered family.")
Here, we are going to see a mass of spaghetti with shark teeth get curbstomped. I do not see how this could be enjoyed un-ironically.Last edited by mwchase; 2011-03-23 at 11:04 PM.

Man, I was only half-serious when I said that they'd make up powers as they go along.
But no, here we are again
Also: We are in a Mindsoulscape. Dominic got ripped into one in Panel 6. You can tell because we're in Lazy Dynamic Layout Land.Lead Designer for Oracle Hunter GamesToday a Blog, Tomorrow a Business!

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
Why the sigh? This is the best thing to happen in or to the comic in at least a month. Almost certainly more. We're back to the good old-fashioned guanopsychosis. I mean, last week we were talking about friggin' Facebath. I'll gleefully take utterly nonsensical what-is-this-I-don't-even craziness over the mundane blandness that has characterized the comic over the past few months (if you're generous).
I, for one, hope that this keeps up. This kind of abject and semiunintentional absurdity is exactly what we (well, many of us) used to love about the comic. Hell, it's snarkable.
As for the Mindsoulscape, I still say that the artificial leg means that it's conceivable that this is really happening. Yes, I know, Mookie Forgot is a very powerful force . . . but man, wouldn't it be great if he hadn't? Just for the insanity of it all?Last edited by Zaq; 2011-03-23 at 11:25 PM.

First off, I'd like to throw my vote down for Om Nom Dom. It's even more fitting now; ugly lobster is still lobster and butter loves lobster no matter what.
Second off, I just have to day 'Bravo!' to Mookie. Why have we been hanging out with Facebath when it could have been Domilobster time? I haven't been this baffled since, since... since I tried to read a White Wolf rpg book straight through (sick burn).

Is it bad that the thing I focus most on in this strip is trying to figure out how Dominic's specs are staying on?

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
Hrm.
Perhaps I have made a wrong turn on the Snarker Instrumentality Project. I mean, this is bizarre, but what I liked about DD was that it used to have a story - and that story utilized Tropes in an amazingly guileless fashion. Mookie would intend to say one thing but would show something completely different. That was fun, that was different.

Surely Mookie is the true successor to Lovecraft. Who needs to have conflict when you can be a ****ing lobster?
Hm.
I need Domobster and Bird-Celesto fighting to the death. Then Mookie will be absolved of all criticism.

Don't put Dominic on a plate
He'll use his magnet to escape
He'll jump right up and claw your ear
And then he'll bite your EYE!!
Dominic sticks to magnet!
Dominic sticks to magnet!

right claw south

Yes. YES. YES. This is what I've been missing from Dominic Deegan. It makes no sense, has that fresh asspull scent and Dominic is turning into a giant lobster to fulfill Mookie's sudden crustacean fetish. If that were a poster, I would buy it and hang it over my bed.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
Dom must be a follower of the secret. Seriously, all he has to do is think "I really want to be one of those crazy space destruction lobsters I just found out about" and bam, it happens!
Have any of you read the story It's a Good Life? I think Dom is Anthony, and Snuggly is another cosmic horror that has taken pity on the sad puppets of his realm, and is trying to give them the sweet release of oblivion.
I mean seriously, Dom really does seem like an elder-god as six-year-old. HE has shown on multiple occasions nigh-transcendent powers, but only ever utilizes them in a way that can be considered "cool". Doesn't that sound like what a manchild Nyarlahothep would do? I think so."Sanity is not statistical."

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
There are no words for the initial reaction. I spent a good ten minutes trying to reflext in text the rage and confusion caused by this strip, to no avail.
Edit 1: Oh god no... If Mookie pulled this trick out of his rectum just so he could wrap things up by Friday for the purposes of getting back to Luna/Facebath/Smugreg as soon as possible without altering the status quo...
Edit 2: Prediction: Tomorrow's strip will contain one of two things; Dom using lobstermode to crush this projection of Snuggly, or Snuggly fleeing in panic from Dom-that-now-looks-like-a-destroyer-thing. Anyone fancy betting against this?Last edited by Darkmyst; 2011-03-24 at 01:55 AM.
