Knight PrC's (3.5)

I have a player that is playing a knight and his goal is to become a member of the king's guard.

Are there any good prestige classes for this or is he better off going straight knight?

The only one I can really think of is Knight Protector from Complete Warrior.

Any PrC would have to keep scaling the DC for his challenges. I am not sure there is any class that does this explicitly.
If you think its warranted you could let him take a made up feat that lets his knight levels stack with his X levels for determining the DC I guess.
If not, he should stay a knight.

Cavalier would be sort of appropriate considering the bonus feats the Knight gets though. Maybe.
