    Jalil

"If the Queen desires our deaths then let her face us. I take no orders from a machine..." She says as the static electricity in the air begins to rise. "...but my name is Lady Jalil Farun. May it be the last you ever hear." She says and twin bolts of lightning erupt from her dagger at the warforged.

The warforged does not flinch when the lightning strikes it, and though Jalil is used to that spell normally forcing her foes to give ground, it seems to have no such effect on their current foe. Statement; this unit regrets that we cannot converse further. Ready your weapons; this unit will be merciful in the execution of its duties.

    Medinah

Even though she found the automaton's soulless discourse highly repellent, Medinah listened intently to "Lord War's" statements, explanations and reiterations, piecing together what she could of the pirates' background and motives. With the scene quickly turning hostile however, she hastily dismissed the notion that this "King Raven" could plausibly be the Admajai Emperor or even credibly believe himself to be such.

The warforged stepped forward to meet "EG-001's" challenge, taking a defensive position in front of her companions, and addressed this foolish machine in imitation of its speech patterns--whether or not it understood the insult, the intent should be clear to her friends.

"Query: By what possible measures could the King of Admajai survive the Pactspell and exist into the present era?
"Analysis: Insufficient data, but given the extensive, prolonged effects of the disaster the likelihood is statistically insignificant.
"Statement: You are following the commands of a known deceiver, the Pirate Queen of Lies. Anything stated by her must be considered suspect.
"Conjecture: It is likely you are operating under a deception regarding the nature of the mortals you serve, crafted in order to secure your servitude.
"Conclusion: You are defective and must be decommissioned."

    [Before Jalil opens fire]
Sarcasm; this unit was unaware of the statistical improbability of the Emperor's survival. Statement; King Raven is the descendant of an obscure bastard child of Emperor Jalil I, making him the closest thing the throne has to an heir. As an Emperor Guardian model, my primary directive is to protect the blood royal. It considers Medinah for a moment. Observation; you are the Soulforged designated Medinah. Your existence is a violation of Admajai laws on both necromancy and extra-planar trade. It levels it's massive tulwar at Medinah with one hand. Amusement; the spirits that fuel your magic flee before the hand of justice. This blade shall set you free, mortal.

Even with her illusionary disguise up, Medinah was clearly shaken by whatever it was that the warforged had done. Her posture slouched, the lights of her eye sensors dimmed and she even lowered her blade.

"Unexpected. This model...has the ability...to weaken the...spiritual link. I am unable...to function at...maximum output," she warned her companions in a broken voice as she struggled to regain control over herself and her powers.

    Rimefang's Garden
The machine seems unfazed by Jalil's attacks; as the Hunters prepare for combat after the sorceress' opening salvo, Rahman is the first to react. He dashes forward with uncharacteristic aplomb and teleports next to the machine, slashing at it with his scimitar. Despite the massive size of EG-001's weapon, it moves lightning fast; Rahman's strike is parried, and the tulwar spins as if it were light as paper, rolling over the kobold's weapon and coming down fast. The other Hunters can only look in horror as, in the blink of an eye, Rahman's one good hand, scimitar still gripped tightly, drops to the ground, leaving a bleeding stump at the end of the right arm where it was once attached. The party alchemist cries out in pan, quickly backpedlaing from the warforged, his eyes wide.

The soulless machine ignores the pained swordsman, turning its inhuman gaze back to the Hunters. It's entire chassis glows, and the Hunter can feel the arcane energy in the air as it harnesses power from seemingly thin air. Lord War lowers its sword with one hand, and the other reaches out to the Hunters. All at once, a torrent of energy flows out of its hand; fire, thunder, icy winds and psychic energy are all unleashed at once. The Hunters, however, are more battle-ready than the machine expects, and only Medinah, shaken as she is at being abandoned by her vestiges, takes the full brunt of the blast.

    Crunch:
    Spoiler
    Show
Rahman is in severe shock, but he will live. For now, he's essentially just a terrain feature, since he's not going to go far with his hand missing. His sword (and right hand) is in K20, in case it ends up mattering.

The area attack it uses attacks all your non-AC defenses. However, it rolled extremely poorly; 22 vs. NAD for Amirah, 25 vs. NAD for Jalil, 22 vs. NAD @ Kihtsah and 18 vs. NAD for Figment. Medinah is attack at 35 vs. NAD and so takes the full effects as well as the 46 damage from the attack. Alvah is hit at 26 vs. NAD, but only at one defense. He takes 44 damage since he is only hit by the fire damage component so the Hoarfrost applies, and takes only the vs. Reflex effect. Figment's aura saved Jalil a lot of damage right there . The total effects on Medinah are: Knocked Prone, slowed until end of her next turn, ongoing 10 fire damage (save ends), and -2 to attack rolls (save ends). Alvah takes ongoing 10 fire damage (save ends) but none of those other effects. The machine does not move from it's original space.

    It is Jalil's turn.

    Room Details
The room is affected by Elemental Hoarfrost. All fire damage is reduced by 2, and all cold damage is increased by 2.

Ice is slippery. A DC18 Acrobatics check is required when one enters an icy square for the first time in a turn, whether willingly or otherwise. If failed, you fall prone. If you succeed, you stay stable. If you succeed by 5 or more, you can perform a "controlled slide" and slide yourself 1 square as a free action, even if you're in the middle of a move action.

Statues grant cover, but they don't occupy their entire square; you can generally see past them and they aren't obscuring enough to use for stealth. The exception is the dragons, which grant total cover, so you can hide behind them. Statues are theoretically destructible, but you suspect that this is part of Rimefang's lair, and you probably don't want to make her angry. Statues on ice terrain are made of ice and not stone.

The black line at the back is a cliff. You cannot gauge what is beyond it or how big the drop is from your current vantage.

    Amirah, Living Swarm

"Figment, at it!" Amirah calls out, as she rushes forward, her hands already shaping her spell as she glides forward, not even taking the time to escape the heavy desert clothes. Figment streaks towards the war machine, shrouding it in illusions and distracting it. Amirah desperately needs the distraction.

Hidden out of view, the swarm is attempting something new, learnt from Abdullah's own actions. The swarm divides into two groups, then three. One continues to propel them forwards, towards cover. A second one, still under the queen's direct control, concentrates on the spell. The third, under the queen's daughter, is given access to the telepathic medallion. The diminished swarms are incapable of complex thought, but they don't need it. Waves of hate, terror, pain and fear wash over the robot, forcing themselves into his brain.

Simultaneously, a massive portal opens behind the machine. Amirah's main swarm calls the last of her available friends, leaving behind a trail of magically exhausted creatures. The crocodile burst forth, assaulting the machine with a fury borrowed from Amirah's feelings.

    Rimefang's Garden
As the crocodile hits Lord War, the energy shield the warforged has absorbs some of the damage, and reflects the energy back at Amirah's pets. When Kihtsah strikes, the shield triggers again, further damaging those around him.

The warforged unleashes a discharge of energy. Medinah's curse magic protects Rahman and the Crocodile, but Kihtsah and Figment are not so lucky. Echoes of the magic hit each of them as well. The warforged then deploys hand crossbows from its shoulders, which don't appear to have ammunition or bowstrings. The two crossbows appear to aim themselves as they begin firing upon the Hunters. Figment is badly wounded by one of the shots, and she retreats from the battle with a whimper. The swarm is also hit by a particularly nasty shot, and Alvah and the Crocodile are hit as well. That done, Lord War vanishes, appearing again next to Jalil and striking her twice with its tulwar. She manages to avoid the one he performs right as he appears, but she is not quick enough to avoid the second one.

Kihtsah (36 vs. Fort+3) and Figment (29 vs. Fort+2) are hit for 22 thunder damage. In addition, people adjacent to those hit take 4 thunder damage (which in this case is just F and K), so the both take 26 thunder damage.

Figment takes 24 force damage (32 vs. Reflex), Amirah is crit for 35 force damage, Crocodile takes 24 force damage (26 vs. Reflex) and Alvah is hit for 27 force damage (36 vs. Reflex). It is not an area attack, which is why the damage differs. Everyone else is missed (oddly enough, all 20 vs. Reflex)

Jalil is missed by the first attack (22 vs. AC) but the second hits (32 vs. AC) and deals 24 physical damage.

It is Alvah's turn. I have already included the 4 damage he takes at the start of his turn.

    Alvah Nasab, Voice of thunder
The bard have kept mostly silent after the battle, his mind digesting the new informations he learned about his friend then. And once they started to travel, he was busy scouting the tunnel to guide them as best as he could.

When they found the lord of war, he let the others speak, unsure how to act with such a creature. Alvah is used to gauge and manipulate feeling, which the creature doesnt have at all. As Jalil launch her attack, the bard smile, his stance going from passive to offensive one, but the creature quicky gain the half-marid respect.
As it cut Rahman's hand, the back cursed under his breath and knows he wont be able to do anything about it. He is actually releived to see that the defender retreat and go out of combat, One less to care about, he thinks to himself. The monster then goes into action and Alvah take an harsh beating, which stun him a little. Damn, this thing might get us, time to unleash the full storm force.

The bard first heal himself, so he can sustain a little more punishment, slowly using the magic to position himself. Looking at Jalil, he yell,
    "Get away from him!"
His words are boosted by his magic and Jalil teleport away from the monster and out of his exploding shield magic. As he teleport the elementalist, Alvah also teleport himself by the statues and unleash his more potent magic, the one he use mostly in emergency, for this feels like one. He first inhale deeply, then he release the air from his lung, weaving his magic into it. A small storm of resounding thunder burst all around slaming his enemies. Strangely enough, the strong wind persist and instead of being disrupting as one would expect, they seem to works with Alvah's allies and help them line up their own attacks.

    Rimefang's Garden
Jalil's retaliatory discharge bounces off of the machine harmlessly. Thankfully for her, Alvah uses his magic to extract her from the melee and then teleports himself closer to their opponent, unleashing a burst of sonorous magic.

The warforged seems unperturbed by Alvah's theatrics. It teleports next to Medinah, sword swinging. It swings its massive tulwar at Medinah a second time, and then unleashes a resonating burst of thunder energy that rolls out among the gathered Hunters. The first stroke she parries, but the second comes too fast and her countering stroke is too slow. She and Alvah resist the thunder magic, but even with her magic cloak, Jalil suffers from the hit.

    Jalil

Jalil cries out in pain as the warforgeds sword slices into her. The static electricity that was building around her dagger discharges uselessly into the ground right before she's wisked away by Alvahs song. Mist rises up from the cracks of the floor and wraps around her like a shroud. "Just die you gods damned machine!" Jalil shouts as lightning bursts from her dagger and thunder echoes off the cavern walls.

    Rimefang's Garden
As Jalil launches her offensive, the machine is overwhelmed by the gigantic discharge, and appears to shut down. It falls to one knee, its sword pressed into the ground tip-first. The magical lights illuminating its body go out.

Error; overload of chassis detected. Intiating repair protocol.

At that, the barrier around the warforged radiates outward, forming a bubble around the prone opponent where once there was a tight armor-like shielding. And, before the Hunters' eyes, the scorchings, dentings, sword cuts and bite marks on Lord War's chassis begin to slowly fade as arcane energies flow out of a point on the mecha's back, a symbol of a sword and an axe on a undecorated shield.

    Alvah Nasab, Voice of thunder
The bard seize the respeive he got to refocus his healing magic, gathering some more arcana energy for his allies, try to put some more distance between himself and the monster and retake his breath.
Looking at the bubble atround him and to the symbol that appeared, his mind work furiously throught his knowledge and memory hoping to understand what is happening.

I'll use my last HS to regain 25 HP (Chances are that I will be bloodied before my next turn anyway since he can play again, which will pre3vent my racial healing, that is why I use it now)
I'll regain the use of Majestic word.

I'd like to do some arcana to see if I know what is happening (how he heal himself) and if it can be stopped somehow.
    Aracana : (1D20+17)[28]
I'd also like to know if I know something about the symbol that appeared (Sword and Axe), which I personnaly think is the Amijah symbol (from the ancient armies and his creators).
    History : (1D20+17)[31]

BTW, can I still use my racial if I have no surge to spare (so I pop up the healing aura)?
I am not sure I'll have the time to spare for it, but for future reference.

Also, the attack that missed me on his last turn, is it an burst 2 thing?
I am not sure if we have the possibility to reposition a little, but if so, I'd like to put some more distance between me and this machine to M26 N25(So I am possibly out of his bursting magic reach)

"As with Vertasi... the tattoo is... the power source... and, I believe... a symbol of... its contract with... the pirate king," Medinah slowly stated after a moment's consideration. "More information... is needed."

With that, she reached out, not with her blade but with her free hand, to touch the magical tattoo in an attempt to learn about it, specifically how it can be deactivated--if that's even possible.

I'm not sure exactly what she's doing here, but "control a phenomenon by manipulating its magical energies" is one of the things Arcana can do, so I guess she'll give it a try.

    Rimefang's Garden
Medinah attempts to touch the tattoo and manipulate its energies. However, as she touches the barrier surrounding Lord War, the barrier begins to rapidly expand, detonating and tossing those around it back. Medinah resists the magic and Alvah is shielded by the statues, but Jalil and Amirah and thrown backwards.

Conclusion; defensive strategy insufficient. Conservation irrelevant; full offensive required for victory, comes the machine's voice as the smoke of the explosion quickly clears. Resuming termination sequence with modified parameters.

EG-001 then teleports next to Amirah, striking her twice with its tulwar. It then deploys its arcane crossbows once more and discharges another set of magical bolts.

    Crunch:
    Spoiler
    Show
The machine no longer has its protective barrier, since that just exploded. It has lost its resistance all, and some defenses. However, it it has rerolled initiative and now acts three times per round.

Amirah and Jalil each take 15 thunder and force damage and are pushed 1 square and knocked prone by the "scene change" (33 and 30 vs. Fortitude, respectively). Medinah is pushed 1 square even though she is missed b/c she was adjacent. Since Jalil was the last to act, the machine then went immediately on its initiative count. It teleports next to Amirah and swings twice; one hit, one miss (36 vs. AC, 25 vs. AC) for 23 weapon damage. It then unleashes the barrage which targets everyone it can see and ignores cover. Amirah (28 vs. Reflex) for 25 force damage, Jalil (26 vs. Reflex) for 23 force damage (half to 11) hurray for being prone, Croc (31 vs. Reflex) for 19 force damage, Kitsah (27 vs. Reflex) for 29 force damage and finally Alvah for 25 force damage, (27 vs. Reflex). Medinah and Figment are both missed.

All conditions have been removed from Lord War. You have to re-curse him, re-oath him, etc. and any penalties he was suffering before the scene change are removed. Unfortunate, since the Acrid Decay penalty would otherwise have caused two one of those attacks to miss.

    It is Medinah's turn.

The blue zone was made by Alvah. Standing in it gives +2 to attack rolls for your party.

Amirah spirals upwards, the mass of insects quickly regenerating after the attacks, hundreds rushing to join the swarm. The reconstituted swarm flows forward, enveloping the war machine. and reforming behind it, having battered its now shieldless body.

    Rimefang's Garden
Despite the repairs it conducted, the machine is beginning once again to show clear signs of wear. Statement; this unit's strategy is immaterial. Victory is guaranteed, therefore expedience is preferentially selected for, intones EG-001 as it vanishes, appearing next to Amirah's latest pet. The strike it initiates would have decapitated the poor crocodile, but Amirah buffers the blow with a portion of her own life force, preserving the crocodile as she sends him back to the swamp to nurse his wounds.

It follows up the attack with a swift strike at Medinah, but she easily dodges the swing. The machine unleashes another discharge of thunderous energy which resonates among the Hunters. All but Kihtsah easily resist the magic, and none are close enough to the half-kobold to feel the echo of the magic.

    Medinah

Though she'd been fully engaged with the fight, Medinah seemed somehow distant from the whole thing. That may've been because of whatever it was that EG-001 had done to disrupt her "spiritual link," but then in the middle of Lord War's diatribe she says something rather odd to no one in particular.

    "I accept."

Just then she's aflame with energy similar to when she activates her teleportation ability. Newly invigorated, Medinah swings her blade in a high arc to try to block Lord War's certain deathblow on the croc, but she was too far out of position and the parry attempt goes wide.

"Damn it. Alvah, Kihtsah, get the hell out of here! We'll follow soon as we've knocked this bastard back into its repair mode!" shouts a familiar-sounding metallic voice but in a completely different tone and diction for Medinah, whose illusionary visage is full of emotion where it had once been stoic. Is this really the same warforged?
