Re: D&D Demotivators III: My PCs Did What?
Three words:
Mark.
Hamill.
Joker.
Need I go on? I mean, B:tAS's Joker is the quintessential Joker to me. All others are just... inferior. Nicholson was fun, Ledger was great and makes a close second, but there's only one real Joker for me, and that's Hamill in B:tAS. Also, he brought us Harley Quinn. Harley Quinn.SpoilerMy Characters

Tygre, I must disagree. Heath Ledger's Joker really sold the character for me for the very first time, when before I could never really buy into him.

Re: D&D Demotivators III: My PCs Did What?
*shrug* It's been sixteen years. Considering how much I still remember from when I was 5, I'd say it's still rather remarkable how much I remember of it. Plus, it would have been easier to recognize if it had been in exactly the same style as it.
Also, the music was the most memorable.Homebrewer's Signature | Avatar by Strawberries

I know that using archaic pronouns like "thou" can make things sound more dramatic and impressive, but if you don't actually know how to use them it just has the opposite effect. You might want to look them up before using them.

Re: D&D Demotivators III: My PCs Did What?
I'm not accepting that the rules would screw meleers to the bottom while lifting caster to heaven. Well... even more.
Because if penalties stack, so should bonuses. Which means a venerable character gets +6 to INT, WIS and CHA.
And I'm ending this debate right here, before it causes another train wreck.Adrie, half elven bard. Drawing by Vulion, avatar by CheesePirate. Colored version by Callos_DeTerran. Re: D&D Demotivators III: My PCs Did What?
@Xuc and Yora: Tygre's quote is, with some omissions, pretty much word-for-word from Chapter 135 of Melville's novel, quite near to the end. Given the cobbled-together vagaries of both modern and archaic English, the fact that something looks odd is unfortunately no real indication that it's wrong.

None of this can actually be happening. If it makes you more comfortable, you could simply think of it as metaphor.

Re: D&D Demotivators III: My PCs Did What?
The Melville one is right but there are many glaring mistakes in the Exalted ones.
"I have chosen ye": "Ye" is the second person nominative plural. That means it's only used as the subject of a sentence, not the object as it is here. It's not another word for "thee". This is like using "we" instead of "me". (In a completely unrelated use, it's used as a substitute for "the" because early Modern English writers and printers used the letter Y in place of the older "thorn" letter to copy old manuscripts, because printing presses didn't have that letter and Modern English no longer used it.)
"Thine trials have been great": "Thine" and "mine" are used before a word with a vowel like the article "an". "Thy", "my", and "a" are used before a consonant. "I want to eat an apple. This is mine apple. That is thine apple."
"Nothing can stop thee, no obstacle or foe can hinder thee; all that stand before ye are fated for defeat.": As above, "ye" is not an object. "Ye are fated for defeat" is ok but "all that stand before ye" is not. It should be "before you". And "thee" is singular for talking to one person. Why switch to the plural? This reads like the speaker is talking to two people: one whom nothing can stop and one whom no obstacle or foe can hinder, but all who stand before both of them are fated for defeat. I really doubt that was the intended meaning.Last edited by Xuc Xac; 2011-03-25 at 11:00 AM.

You know why we don't use older forms/styles of English any more to speak? Because we don't, so knock it off.
