Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
The anti-teleport measures that don't need to be bypassed on account of not actually existing?

Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
I think, of it was a cheap way to dodge teleport blockers, I wouldn't have mentioned this until there was, in fact, a teleport blocker.
Actually, it can be stopped by anti-teleport wards, but only rather strong ones, as it is a powerful artifact. I don't classify it as teleportation because in my opinion, teleportation requires warping of time space. What the artifact does is more like walking up to Reality and shouting at it about how you're supposed to be there, not here, and it better fix it, now!Last edited by ThirdEmperor; 2011-03-16 at 11:41 PM.

Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
How does Reality fix it? By warping time space for you? And anyway, there's lots of different magical and techy ways of teleporting in the Nexus, that work by different methods, but we call them all 'teleporting' because it's a word everyone understands to mean 'person went from point A to point B instantly without crossing the space in between', however the technomagibabble explains how that happened.
Of course now I'm wondering how the artifact knows where it wants you to be, since you don't even have to hold it or anything to work. It's kind of traditional for there to be magic hand gestures or incantations or tech devices that have to be activated. My avatar! Isn't it just utterly diabolical? Ashen Lilies made it!

Just dropping this potential thingymabob here.
My only ideas so far are that it's a robot nurse who, instead of downloading the 'Nurse' AI package, was accidentally loaded with a killer's personality, or like, some sort of AI that's more suited to killing things.

Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
It fixes the problem by briefly removing you from reality and then rewriting it so you're where you should be. Which involves briefly both existing and not, making it very dangerous to use, as someone stating that what he just did was impossible could cause Jasper to be removed from the universe permanently, or have his mind torn asunder, or turn him into a newly spawned Eldritch Evil. Which is why, although he doesn't need to be holding the coin, it's a very good idea to do so, otherwise it's far more likely things will get crazy.

Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
I'll classify it as teleportation that happens to be kind of dangerous and fiddly and a little slow then.
Still teleporting though.
*ponders having credulous npcs show up wherever Jasper is to point and gape at the impossibility of his teleporting*
*discards idea as no npcs in the Nexus could possibly fail to know of the existence of teleportation*My avatar! Isn't it just utterly diabolical? Ashen Lilies made it!

Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
Of course. Reality is bound by cause leading to effect, so if he's not teleporting, clearly nothing he did that led him to the other place ever happened and he just stayed home.

Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
Seriously.
Think of them as silenced/stilled spells that are quickened. Three second? Plenty of time for him to block off teleportation. It's not a permanent effect, just a temporary fix.
And the only reason there were three spells cast was because you never made it immediately clear that your teleport could be responded to. Stopping Jasper would have taken priority. The fire can still be lit if you really want to question it.

Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
I'm just saying, isn't that a little much, even for someone as powerful as Ghar? I mean, seriously, at that point there's no reason to ever even think about fighting him, because if he can cast three spells in three seconds, he would kill anyone who attacked in the time it took to draw their weapons.

Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
Completely disregarding the fact that you have a heck of a lot more characters that are similarly OP, let's look at a couple details.
1. I DO NOT recommend getting in a fight with Ghar. It's a bad idea for your average character. But I don't throw Ghar into combat without careful deliberation or against suitably strong characters. Also, he generally does not bother with combat, instead opting for more subtle methods. If you chose to fight him directly, well you should have thought that through.
2. These were all minor spells. Calling something to his hand? Putting out a small fire? The teleport thing was the biggest spell he cast, and that's still minor. They were not earth shattering, death dealing, spells of mass disintegration. Or even basic combat magic.
3. As Happy had pointed out in GLoG, you specifically said that someone strong enough could stop him. Someone strong enough is in the same room. Three seconds is plenty of time for Ghar to react, and that's exactly what happened.

Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
First off, how many of my characters can cast three spells, one of them artifact stopping powerful, in three seconds? I count.... None. Even Prince can't do that, as his spells actually take time.
Second, yeah, except, you know, sometimes people have to deal with Ghar, whether or not they like it.
Third.... Well, if it was minor, then how was it powerful enough to stop Jasper? He's a powerful character, and if Ghar was using a minor spell, it sure as heck wouldn't stop him.
I understand Ghar is powerful, I understand he's fast. However, if he can use spells capable of stopping massively powerful artifacts, in somewhere around three seconds (considering his other actions, like pausing to examine the lighter, in addition to two other spells) then really, is it actually possible for anyone to do something he doesn't want them too? Isn't he pretty much omnipotent?Meese Mobster by smuchmuch.

Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
Assuming I can cross the reference well enough, I'm assuming Ghar is a lot like a DnD wizard in that he prepares his spells ahead of time. If that's the case, it makes sense since when preparing a spell a wizard essentially casts all but the final component of it, thus leaving it open to be cast at a moments notice. preparing a quickened spell works the same way - they just require you to leave a lot less space for the casting of the spell itself, which is why it's so much more difficult.
The second option is that he's capable of casting all these spells at once, rather than one at a time. I know some systems work like that
Beyond those two options, then you're right, Ghar would have to have near omnipotence and prophetic reflexes to be capable of getting all three spells off.If You need me to post somewhere, drop me a message, please

Re: [NEXUS] OOC 16: Sweet!
You didn't have to deal with Ghar. You put yourself into the scene.
And he did say he would retcon out the fire putting out since stopping Jasper was the priority. So that's a simple bit of telekinesis plus casting a dimension lock.My avatar! Isn't it just utterly diabolical? Ashen Lilies made it!

Of course, then there was TE's character who did, in fact, fire a revolver six times in one post while performing two other actions...
