Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
That sounds homey. I miss my hive.
Serp, I can't find what bird you're referencing. All I can find is articles talking about EPC in general terms. In related news, I still find jealousy weird and bothersome. It freaks me out that other people get possessive about mates.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
Did we have a comic something to that effect (about gay giraffes, I mean)? Whatever happened to that, anyway?
Serp, I missed your Trying Human snippet. What is it about?Last edited by Danne; 2011-05-18 at 12:28 PM.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
I'd support calling the next thread rainbow thread or words to that effect. I would prefer to avoid the word "queer" though. It just rubs me the wrong way. Probably because I associate it with Moby D!ck, which is a book I loathe passionately.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
My laptop's been broken for a few days, so I missed a bit of the thread and was going through it to comment on stuff, but then I realized I probably don't have anything meaningful / worth reading to remark.
I like Queer Thread.
My mum confronted me with something when I got back from work Sunday. She had found the card from the counsellor I'd gone to last week Thurday, and was feeling rather upset. I came up with a quick lie about me being stressed out about my research project, and considering going, but told her I didn't go after all. This made me feel bad enough for lying to her, and because she worries a lot about things in general, causing her additional grief. I just wasn't ready to tell her out of the blue without thinking it through before hand.
I also made an attempt to tell my best friend in RL why I had been missing so many classes lately and had been feeling so down, but I couldn't get any further then saying that there was something pretty heavy going on and that I was seeing counselling for it. Doesn't help that he's stoicism incarnate, so I'm not completely sure how he'll react / if he'll understand why this has been causing me so much grief. And then I feel guilty / bad for assuming he won't understand / care.
Edit: On a plus side, I was going for dinner with my friend and picked up the latest Metro. (It's this free newspaper around here.) Apparently this issue was co-edited by Lady Gaga, and there were three pages on LGBT-related things, so that was pretty nice.Last edited by Astrella; 2011-05-18 at 02:46 PM.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
That sounds a bit odd to me, wouldn't that mean only 1% reproduced? Unless they just don't form couplings for mating, in which case it sounds pretty cool.
...
And now I'm imagining intelligent giraffes talking about heterosexual awareness. As well as jellyfish, since they are amazingly hypnotising. ^_^'Treasured Quotes

I feel the thread should be called the LGBT Thread, as it was originally, as is traditional. Si non confectus, non reficiat.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
I thought it was more than 1%, actually. I thought it was more something like 90% male/male, 9% male/female, 1% female/female.
But I've no idea if those numbers are remotely accurate.
Edit: Ahah! I was right, according to John Green.Last edited by Thufir; 2011-05-18 at 04:22 PM.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
And John Green is totally a valid, academic source. Right?
In thread related stuff, blarghy in a place where I have to be closeted again. Stressful and I'm just so bad at it in the first place that I'm constantly worried I'm going to misstep and say/do something to out myself. >.<

Sadly, it's an internet hug which is not as good as a real hug, so here are some funny words too.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
I'm all for either Queer or Rainbow thread. I can't say I care much for the acronym, but that might just because back in Toronto it's gotten out of control.
As for a mascot, I've always been a fan of butterflies. I also thought unicorns or dolphins would be typical.
I do have a few photographic offerings, though (since I wish to show of my photography skills):

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
d'awwwww... *melts under the hugs*
Here. Also here and here. He's absolutely made of awesome and you should check him out. *ahem*
And it's not so much that I mind being closeted, I mind having to act like I don't care/have no opinion or at least not a favourable one of [acronym here] stuff, because otherwise it would be seen as strange and suspicious, and I'd get asked direct questions about it. I can't lie when asked a question, and I don't think "I don't want to talk about it" or "It's none of your business" will cut it with my very religious mother.
Oh yes. rayne_dragon, that's a scary scary giraffe. Is he/she/ze/it really that colour? Otherwise, pretty pretty starfish...
...I think my brain has been reduced to "fire bad, tree pretty" levels. Back to the marking then. Fail them all!Last edited by cycoris; 2011-05-18 at 08:26 PM.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
I feel you so hard on not being able to evade direct questions. *sympathy hug*
Though maybe your mother will be more understanding, or at least more accepting, than you give her credit for... I can also understand being afraid to find out. The unknown is scary not because it is unknown, but because should it become known the possibility of it being horrible is too high to contemplate rationally.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
Yes, the giraffe really is that colour. I couldn't believe it. If I knew that was any good at claw games I might have tried to grab it.
The starfish is actually creepy because it was dead... my guess is that they have a mass die-off in the fall here - there was a whole bunch of them washed up on the beach that day. Poor things.
