I have sort of a dilemma.

I've known I liked both sexes/all genders since I was very young. I accepted it just as something I was, and I was capable of blending in "regular" society. This was mostly due to the fact that, while I did have a girfriend here and there, it was never really serious, and it was mostly when I was young. For the most part, I thought women were beautiful and sexy and I really couldn't stand them otherwise.
I never really felt a reason to come out to anyone besides my friends or strangers (or in the case of the Playground, friends) on the internet. Its not a huge part of who I am, its just something that's always been there. What's the big deal?

Aside from that, my dad's pretty homophobic. I mean, not in the actively trying to keep gays down kinda way. I mean, in that closeted homophobic way. He denies it, but anything about gays make him uncomfortable, and any time my openly gay friends come over, he makes some excuse to leave. He makes disdainful (but not openly hating) remarks about lesbians.

The fact of the matter is, though, that there's this girl I really, really like. And right now she's got a boyfriend, and she's never been interested in a girl before. But the boyfriend is a total jerk (she's on this crazy diet because she thinks he'll love her again if she loses weight) and a little birdy/mutual friend has let it spill to me she is, infact, interested in me.
Which makes me happy.
But! Here's the catch. This would be the first time I've really dated a girl. I mean, aside from, like, highschool/internet shenanigans. This would be the first time I've really dated a woman, as a woman, and not as a girl... if that makes any sense at all.
And that's something I'm afraid won't just blend into the background of my life, like my interest in women I've had previously. Its not just something I can shrug and go on with my life about.
Its probably going to include a coming out, which was something I thought I'd never really need to do =/

They are not really you. They are twins (or triplets, or whatever), who happen to have a different birth date. Just like you can't tell your twins to live like you, you can't tell your clones to do so either.

Sirroelivan: *hugs* It's impossible to tell how any particular person is going to react when you come out to them, so I think fear and doubt is unavoidable and natural. Don't feel bad about it. You're moving in the right direction by going to a counselor, even if you aren't ready to talk to other people about your feelings yet.

It just irks me sometimes often how there's a huge discrepancy now between who I am / how I can behave between online and RL now. (Because I'm "out" to several of my best online friends.)

I'm sure you'll be fine. Coming out doesn't seem as much a big deal as it was a decade or two ago.

Plus, to a certain degree, two girls can date without people realizing it. After all, a woman can call another woman her 'girlfriend', but that doesn't always mean that they're dating. It can even make coming out harder if people don't quite understand exactly what you mean.

Rabbit: Well, until you're actually dating her (which I assume would be after she and her current beau breakup) it seems premature to be making big plans. But I favor coming out anyway in most circumstances. It's really not as traumatic as most folks seem to think it will be IME.

I don't know if anyone else follows the youtube trans-community (I know CandiFLA was mentioned a while back), but I recently discovered Grishno, and came across this video which made me laugh.

Random note, I'm apparently an "innocent uke." I don't know why I enjoy quizzes like that (particularly given I detest the idea of Seme-Uke relationships).
