Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
We went over this a few pages back, Celestia is most probably Grand Princess, but she certainly isn't royalty, unless her parents were. Even if she were, you need to be actual monarch to be styled HRM instead of HMSH, sorry
See Principality of Monaco for reference, they have actual, real title and styling.
Triumvir, actually

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
So I'm trying Ponify my avatar but am having a few issues figuring out the colour scheme and was wondering if anyone had any ideas that could help me. I figure a purple body with the red mane would be obvious, but I'm trying to figure out how to do the white trim... Any thoughts?

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
The answer to the question 'why' is a simple, "We're Americans, and don't have a flipping clue how to address royalty or anything remotely resembling royalty. But I think I heard this in a movie once!"
Although to be perfectly honest? 'Her Most Serene Highness' fits Celestia so well that I'm suddenly actually glad she didn't wind up being a Queen. And if I ever write a story where this would actually come up, I am definitely using this. Thank you!

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
If you want even more ideas, Her Most Serene Highness can be argued to be mistranslation from Latin/High German, and it could be Her Most Radiant Highness (I'm not making this up...) or simply Her Serenity (like Her Majesty, but for ruling princesses)...

I would. Even when trolling, she's graceful and cool and collected. This is why not everpony can see the truth of trollestia.*

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
Honestly, I think that's something that everypony else insist she do.
"Hey, I'm gonna fly to Ponyville to check on things there."
"Yes, your Highness. I'll fetch the carriage."
"Oh, that won't be necessary. It's a short flight."
"And have you exert yourself? By no means! Somepony of your status can't just walk into town!"
"It's no problem. I can see Ponyville from here."
"But you'll get all hot and sweaty! And you should have a formal escort too! What if something happens?"
"... I think I can take care of myself."
"No, we insist! It'll be an honor to pull your chariot!"
"... you're not going to shut up until I say yes, are you?"
"Probably."
"Ugh. FINE."Avatar by Glasswhistle

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
Oh Celestia. Powerful enough to raise the sun AND the moon, as well as banish ponies to the moon, and yet you still have royal guards escorting you everywhere. And yet the only time you actually end up in danger the guards are nowhere near being strong enough to help you anyway.

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
You're just the pony I had in mind, actually. I wanted to see the scope of things before asking you about it though; I don't know if you'd be willing to vector, say, an entire graphic novel.
White fetlocks. Or white at the base of the red mane, Which I've seen before and thought it was really good looking. Or both.
Royalty is fun. It gets better when each monarch has an unspoken preference for one of their various titles. Ach.
Well of course. They failed her once; never again! I'm seeing a Rocky-style training montage of pegasi guards training, having random unicorns paralyze and electrocute them as they run up steps and punch sacks of potatoes hanging from what are definitely not meathooks, no matter the resemblance.
And Guardalopolis was head of his class. But now...

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
Meat hooks?
I googled the instrument Octavia is playing. Do you know what is instrumental (ahem) in the construction of Cello?
SpoilerHorse glue. Yes, you need special glue to stop warping of the instrument, just a bit weaker than wood. No, plant glues are no good. And yet, Trollestia insisted on having cellist on her most exquisite Gala...

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
Actually I think I've figured out how to do it. The Clydesdale idea sounded good, and digging up some pictures of Big Macintosh for a base (plenty of good pictures of him for me to work with) I noticed that he has coloured hooves. So I'm going to go with that. My ponytar's also going to be a pegasus, so I'm going to have the feathers on the wings white as well. Should be enough to get the same white trim effect.

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
So, I finally got a fanfic off the ground. It's still very early on in development, not even spoilers so far, but reviews would be appreciated (go easy on me, I'm new to this).
Title: CSI: Ponyville (not an actual CSI crossover)
Description: A serial killer is loose in Ponyville, can Twilight figure out the mystery before it's too late?

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
Well, meathooks are what you would use to suspend a side of beef in a freezer. In a world without beef, they could hang sacks of potatoes for the same effect. But then you would still have to suspend the sack from something. Tater-hooks is vicious, I tell you what.
Speaking of debts, I lost a bet, didn't I? And one with Kairaven as well (he bet the episode would have ponies). I theoretically still owe both of you.

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
I imagine they ran around for a bit, watching as all other ponies fled them in horror due to their monstrous appearance. Then, they befriended an old blind pony who, not knowing to be repulsed by their appearance, discovered that they had feelings just like any other pony. Alas, the blind pony's children returned home and drove the mice away. Knowing at last that they can never truly find acceptance in this world they have been brought into, the mice swore to destroy Twilight Sparkle and everything she held dear.
Then, the clock struck midnight, the mice turned back to normal, and Opal ate them all.
Have we seen any actual evidence of how powerful she is? I say she cannot move the sun and moon!
It was only inertia that kept them going during the Luna's imprisonment. Celestia was the only pony long-lived enough to notice their orbits gradually destabilizing over the centuries. If a pony had been allowed to compare astonomical records a thousand years in the past with the motion of the celestial bodies in the present, he'd have been horrified. The Summer Sun Celebration? Celestia merely calculates where the sun will end up that year and poses dramatically at that location. Celestia released Luna--intentionally--when she knew she could no longer keep up the charade without permanently damaging the cosmos. She wrote the prophecy herself, including the projected date of total celestial destabilization (minus a safety buffer of about fifty years) to keep people wary in case Luna was still upset when she returned to Equestria.

Re: My Little Pony VII: The Grand Galloping Thread
This is awesome. That is all.
Hmmm, interesting theory. But we do still know she was capable of putting Luna on the moon in the first place. So she's still pretty powerful.
...Unless the years of trolling left her unable to use the elements of harmony. Then she's got a few problems. Which would probably explain why she didn't just banish Luna again.
Poor Guardalopolis. I hope he finds true love someday.
