Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
The reluctance level of the doctor could also be a red herring, just a dig at Ben from Sally.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
The original Mobile Suit Gundam concluded with an actual fencing duel between the lead and his rival, and as a bonus bears a lot of similarities to Star Wars. No prominent doctor or nurse characters and only one guy who piloted every episode, though.
I like the Firefly idea a little better. Wash and Mal are both pilots and Mal counts as shell-shocked. Simon's got a major conflict between his calling as a doctor and his situation as a criminal. Sadly, we run aground with the lack of a nurse. Adorable mechanic, but no nurse.Spoiler

I wouldn't call Simon reluctant at all. He may have thrown away a promising career as a core world surgeon to save his sister, but he is very much a doctor at heart.
Man this thing was full of outdated stuff.

Episode 776: Born to Busk
Of course Ben's Rule #1 about using a laser sword would be to try not to cut off limbs.
Also, here are the suggestions we compiled for the new thread while on page 45 (plus any suggested since then):
Darths and Droids III: Summon Bigger Fish
Darths and Droids: Han Didn't Shoot
Darths and Droids 3: Greedo Did Shoot First
Darths and Droids III: I have a bad feeling about this...
Darths and Droids 3: Chewbacca, Like A Sir.
Darths and Droids III: Mia have-a bad feeling about-a this...
Darths and Droids: At least Jar Jar got blown up with Naboo

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
Grandpa: Are you kidding? Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles...
The Grandson: Doesn't sound too bad. I'll try to stay awake.
Han: It was awesome. A war epic. Fencing, fighting, revenge, escapes, true love, miracles!
Obi-Wan: Doesn't sound too bad.
So no torture, giants, monsters and chases, but the rest is a pretty obvious TPB reference. And if Sally was just playing Ben, the only thing we've left is the war epic, pilots and medics.
Maybe it's Captains of the Clouds?
But maybe they really got a film with fencing, miracles and pilots?
Alternative pilots perhaps?

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
I'm at a loss for the show... maybe it was something original, or a combination of things. I'm sure by now it is somehow related to PB but meh.
As for the new thread... I liked the "You are my daughter" reveal but I guess "Search your DNA report" doesn't make for a good title.
But if we reference the Greedo-Han situation I expect a reference to Jim's ridiculous accent.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
Wasn't he also trained as a pilot? For some reason I could have sworn Yossarian was a pilot, even if he was never in the cockpit.
btw, for the whole "It needs to be a movie" thing, google tells me there was a 1970's film adaptation of Catch-22. So it could qualify. If my text is blue, I'm being sarcastic. But you already knew that, right?

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
I'm a little late to the party, as always, but it could still be Princess Bride, just from the other side of the story: Last time it was Vincini and crew (ending with Vincini's death, because Pete threw a fit), this time it's Dread Pirate Roberts's story.
Because, really, there's no movie that is better described by that string of words, but there was no daring escapes, reluctant doctors, or true love on Vincini's side of the story.Spoiler: My inventory:
1 Sentient Sword
1 Jammy Dodger (I was promised tea)
1 Godwin Point.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
On "busking", I'll add just for the data point that I'm not aware of having ever witnessed the word being used in conversation in my little corner of the States, but I've been informed it's been used in the local newspaper to refer to the street performers at the local pedestrian mall. So it's still technically a word here, but obscure and rarely used. :)

Busking is a thing in England too, if that helps anyone curious about linguistics.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
Busking would be a plenty common and normal word if people actually paid attention to buskers rather than considering them quaint parts of the scenery.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
For a whole minute I thought it was Futurama. I know they did that as one of their joke strips but I figured Zoidberg could be played as a reluctant doctor (hence why he is so bad at it) and Bender could be played as a shell shocked pilot (he may not have done much piloting, but he did try to commit suicide in the first episode, not to mention all the drinking. (Yes I know Futurama has a different reason for the drinking.)) Just because the last two were movies does not make me 100% sure that this one is. Plus I am sure they had all the things Jim mentioned throughout the series somewhere.
However I then remembered that it was 2 pilots 1 doctor and 1 nurse, not 2 pilots and 2 doctors since I figured Professor Fawnsworth would be the other doctor.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
It's been a while since I've read the book, but I believe Yossarian, when he went up, was usually the bombardier. Nately, Orr, and McWatt were the ones in the pilot chairs of their respective planes. My Army Air Corp-fu is too weak to remember whether the whole aircrew of a heavy bomber was trained to pilot the plane.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
On busking- I'm familiar with the word, but I usually default to street musicians. I guess busking does have a slightly different meaning- specifying those who are asking/for accepting money (as opposed to those advertising something, which I've seen, or who just happen to be playing their instrument in the street) and expanding it to include places like parks and subways.
