Ack, I don't like any of the remaining choices ... but I'll downvote Dawnworld. Just plain boring.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
It's funny... from that whole list, there was only ever one that jumped out at me. I'm quite surprised that it has any competition left at all.

Looks like everything is right close to me, though a few need to revote since their votes were lost to torpedos.
Notes: The only reason I note voters is because its public already, and easier for me to keep track of when I'm counting. If the build team would prefer for me not to post these, or to post these without the names, I can.

Alright, the Build Team has conferred and narrowed it down to two: Primordium and Perantea.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
Hm, so the remaining options are a Latin word and a portmanteau of a Latin phrase.
I'm not sure if voting is technically still open, but if I'd looked at the thread between when Seas of Creation was sunk and the final whittling to two options, I would have voted Perantea.Someday I'll have my anxiety under control, but until then, I'm prone to sudden month-long disappearances.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
I'd prefer Perantea myself, Primordium is just so boring and overdone. With Perantea, at least it implies something different.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
While I'm disappointed Hekswelds didn't get through, I am sort of relieved that I can keep it in my options drawer for my settings. Perantea is an interesting option here, and it doesn't just look like an English word, which is something of a pet peeve of mine.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
some one explained the root of Perantea to me. I just don't remember it. If someone started talking about Perantea, I'd need a subtitle to know what kind of setting it was. Its a place, but The name doesn't say much to me. It just sounds like a random place.
Primordium, on the other hand, tells you exactly what it is. detractors may claim its "boring" and "bland" or "predictable". In other words, it gives firm clues and makes promises about the things inside. I don't know about you, but I find that a good attribute in a name.
I don't really think of the world being known as "Primordium" so much as it is "The Primordium".
and I have no problems with things looking like they belong in the language I happen to speak.Last edited by erictheredd; 2011-07-27 at 10:45 PM.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
Perantea is by far the better option. Primordium would need a subtitle, whereas Perantea stands up well on its own.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
I have to disagree with you on that. Perantea as a singular name just doesn't sound good. It doesn't help you understand the setting, it just confuses you. Whereas Primordium gives you a clear display of what the setting entails. Why do you say Perantea is able to stand on it's own, whilst Primordium cannot?

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
Sorry. It was my understanding that, every time a "torpedo" is fired, those names without votes get culled, the surviving titles' votes are reset to zero, and a new round of voting commences. Afroakuma seemed to confirm this. If I misunderstood, I apologize and retract my vote.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
I do stand firmly by Primordium, however. As other posters have noted, it immediately communicates what the setting is about in a way that Parantea does not. And it looks like English only insofar as English has liberally borrowed from Latin and the Romance languages for centuries. That is not a bug, IMO, but a feature. I also like erictheredd's suggestion that the world proper be known as The Primordium, although I think Primordium (perhaps with a subtitle -- e.g., Dawn of Creation, Crucible of Souls, Canvas of the Gods) suffices for the setting title.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
Really? To me, Perantea has... I don't know how to describe it. It sounds good. It flows. It has music. Perhaps it's just because I like long "a" sounds, but Perantea sounds like a name, and a good one. Primordium is dry. It's a description, not a name. A place, not a world.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
I was thinking the same thing. If Perantea wins, it would still be nice if some aspect of the setting was called the Primordium. The other way around might not be as fitting, however.
BTW, Afro, the first post needs to be updated to reflect the current vote. Those last two torpedoes barely left a dent in the OP.Last edited by Zeta Kai; 2011-07-28 at 05:36 AM.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now in Open Discussion)
Apparently a primordium is an organ, structure, or tissue in the earliest stage of development. So it is a word, albeit a technical one, in the English language. I'd wager its roots are more well known than per antea is, so it does communicate more information.
The -tea ending on Perantea does sound more like a location name, though I understand why people might see it as too generic.
Both names have been growing on me, and to be honest the main reason why I voted Perantea is that it grew on me first. I'm happy either way.Someday I'll have my anxiety under control, but until then, I'm prone to sudden month-long disappearances.

Perentea: The Primordium
Though I stand firmly by Primordium. I do know peices of latin and couldn't recognize thats where Perentea came from. And It took me ages to find out what "Ebberon" was. (I still don't think I have the right Idea.

BTW, it looks like we'll be hitting the 50-page ceiling on this thread just as we've nailed down a name. Good timing.
