Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
Well, I'd assume the National Organisation of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals agree too. Lots of people like gay science, not just Newton and Nietzche.
Now that you mention it, it could make for some great time-travelling philosophical slash fic. Newton/Nietzche FTW!Just the seed of an idea.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
So... tomorrow's the local Pride Parade. I hope I can overcome my fear of crowds and go see it.

Why, oh why, can't helium hold a relationship? Why won't it just admit that it does fancy oxygen that way? Oh, the humanity! Oh, the drama!
Other than that, good luck, rayne. Always remember: Beating demophobia for a Pride Parade is just more of a reason for that pride! (/sagacious blathering - But seriously, all the best! )Last edited by Worlok; 2011-07-30 at 11:57 AM. Reason: Here we go again.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
Been a while since I posted here, but I figured I'd get out a few pictures of me and my GF while she was here.
Spoiler
Don't particularly like my hair in that pic. But nonetheless, had a good time. My gram and her gay friend were great, and while I could notice a few self-conscious mannerisms (recall she's MtF) being physically there with her, I'd say that she was glad to be here.
Now to get money to go to Norway. XD
Also, to date, this is the first picture I've posted of myself on the forums. I should hope you all can keep a secret. My Homebrew

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
I'm quietly enjoying some irony here.
At least, I think it's irony. I should probably ask you guys about it.
Is it actually ironic if a cis girl says "Sorry, I'm a lesbian" to a closeted trans girl?Just the seed of an idea.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
Uh... he said "cis girl". As in, "a person whose brain matches their biology with regard to their sex", as in "a non-transexual female". Pretty standard terminology for 'round these parts. I've never even heard "cisgender" used except as a gender-neutral way of saying the above, and never heard "cissexual" as far as I'm aware, and unless it also means the above, I don't know what it'd refer to

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
I'm going to go with no in this case.
1.
the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.
2.
Literature.
a.
a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated.
b.
(especially in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes, etc., especially as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme, or emotion.
3.
Socratic irony.
4.
dramatic irony.
5.
an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected.Socratic irony
noun
pretended ignorance in discussion.dramatic irony
noun
irony that is inherent in speeches or a situation of a drama and is understood by the audience but not grasped by the characters in the play.
Or if the stated lesbian was lying about being a lesbian in order to dissuade the (presumably) male presenting MtF, that might also be irony, but I think it might be more likely to just count as lying and nothing really ironical about it.
It does seem sort of redundant to say cissexual rather than just cisgendered, from my understanding of things.
As, barring some kind of involuntary surgical procedure, if one is not trans, generally one has the physical sex that biology deigned to give one's self... And I'm not sure if one counts as cis or double trans if one is surgically altered back to one's birth sex.... Kind of a convoluted bag of worms, that.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
I would say it's not ironic, because attraction follows it's own rules and just because someone is a woman does not mean that people who are attracted to females do or should have any more attraction to them than would otherwise be expected given that they are still biologically male. And it's (frankly) not fair to expect otherwise.
Does it kinda suck? Yeah. But that's life.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
I think there is no guarantee the woman would have been attracted to the MtF had she been cis. It's just an easier excuse to use and therefore and easier way to tell someone you're not interested, and in most cases they don't insist. I'm not saying she was lying, just that it's easier to say that and leave it at that.
That kind of things happens all the time. Someone hits on you that you'd have no interest in. You say you're taken. It's true, but it's also easier to say that and leave it at that than say you also wouldn't have been interested anyways. It's seen as less hurtful for the other person.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
How glad am I to be pansexual? No more worrying about anothers person displayed or hidden sex or gender. Whatever you fill into "Sorry, I never told I am really a ______.", it's okay with me.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
Well, yeah. But in this case, her choice of "less hurtful" thing to say was "You're not a woman". I'm sure you can see how that can be upsetting, even if she had no way of knowing it would be. And I'm not saying she acted badly or wrongly. It's just an unfortunate confluence of events, largely due to concealed information - hence why I was tempted to call it ironic, because the only thing stopping it from being dramatic irony is that it happened in real life, not a play.
My issue is something like this: Is it really that hard to leave it at "no"? Or are guys really so pushy that you need to head off the inevitable "Why not?" before it's even asked?Just the seed of an idea.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
Other than the three different kinds of people who disbelieve that your sexuality exists and the greatly increased chance that a crush will find it impossible to reciprocate the feelings based entirely on your sex (which at least for me is something I can't comprehend and I'm assuming lots of other sanpexuals think the same way) yeah, it's pretty great.
