The OotS Smilie Hunt 2.0

Ever thought about how the two wonderful pastimes of treasure hunt and poker would work together? Ever thought that it would be even better if there was a thin OotS veneer shamelessly papered over the top of it? If so this might just be the silly game for you!

The Rules

- There is an 8x8 grid, like this:

An "X" will denote a space that has been taken during the game.

- Each square will have one of the following smilies hidden in it:



- Each player will start with three random smilies, sent to them via PM. This is your initial hand, and your secret bargaining tools.

- There will then be a 48 hour treasure hunt phase, where players can post in thread the three squares they wish to search on the 8x8 grid for smilies. Each square may have 1 smilie, 2 identical smilies, or 2 different smilies.

A few squares could also have one of the following special effects:

Joker – Pick any smilie you want when you pick this square.
Multiscore – The smilie in this square can be used in two scoring combinations instead of one.
Opposites – This squares smilie can count as either Roy/Thog, Elan/Nale, Belkar/Miko or Haley/Sabine (player decides).
Thieves Tools – Instead of containing a smilie, this square lets you pick a type of smilie and a player. If the targeted player has one or more of that smilie, you steal all of them!
Try Again – This square contains a smilie, but also allows you to discard one of your collection in order to pick another square from the grid.
Bonus Points – No smilie here, but you do get 10-50 bonus points just for choosing this square!

- The results of each person’s choices are then updated in the thread at the end of the Treasure hunt phase, so everyone see’s the contents of the three squares chosen for each player.

- Once everyone has chosen smilies there is a 72 hour Trading phase. Offer your unwanted smilies to others and try and get the combinations you really want! This needn’t be on a one-for-one basis, but does need to be confirmed by both players before I post to confirm the trade.

- At the end of the trading phase each players entire hand is revealed, and points are assigned according to the combinations set out below:

6 of a Kind (e.g. ) -100 points
5 of a Kind ( ) - 60 points
4 of a Kind ( ) - 40 points
3 of a Kind ( ) - 20 points
One Pair ( ) - 10 points
Two Pairs ( ) - 25 points
Three Pairs ( ) - 50 points
Opposites ( & , & , & , & ) - 20 points
Lovers ( & , & ) - 20 points
Linear Guild - ( ) 40 points
Team Evil - ( ) 40 points +5 points per
OotS - ( ) 100 points
Roach Tea Party – ( ) 150 points

- Each smilie can count in one scoring combination only, unless one of the squares turned up in the thread says otherwise.

- The game will last 5 rounds, and the highest scoring player will be declared the winner! They may also get a spiffy trophy, but no promises!

So, anyone interested? I guess 8-12 players would be ideal, so that there are plenty of options and double dealing when the trading phase comes around. The game will start as soon as there are enough players signed up, and you’ll be notified when I send through your first three random smilies via PM. If you have any questions or comments on the rules please let me know, as knowing me there are a few holes to close up before the game actually starts working properly.

The Trading Phase is now underway! You now have 48 hours to offer and agree any trades between players in the thread. You need to both agree to the trade, but it needn't be on a 1 for 1 basis. Now go for it and try and get the best combinations you can, but be careful not to reveal too much about what you have!

EDIT: Do we lose all our amilies once they have been scored?

Yes, at the end of the round the scores will be calculated form each players scoring combinations of smilies, and all smilies are then discarded. The next round will start with a new grid and new initial secret smilies for each player, so there's no point in saving smilies in the hope of better options in the next round.

In thread please, it's easier that way for everyone to see what's being offered etc. It's also easier for me to confirm agreed trades if they're here rather than by PM. It's also makes things a little more open and tactical, where people can accept or turn down trades depending on what combinations they think you may have/would get with the trade.
