Belgian beers (in particular abbey ales and lambics) are typically slightly sweet or lightly fruity. In terms of color, they tend to run from pale gold through amber and on toward brown; they also tend to have a high ABV for beers, but they’re made to be savored rather than chugged anyway.

Another option you might try is porters (or stouts). Most have flavors of coffee or toffee, and they tend to be milder and have less bitterness than lighter or hoppier beers; incidentally some of my favorite beers are porters and stouts, and many smaller breweries have excellent recipes for this family of beer.

If you’re looking for a company to try, give New Holland a shot. They’re small enough to have some good recipes without sacrificing flavor for mass production, but they’re large enough that you should be able to find some of their product most places in the US if you look hard enough.

Beeskee: The earth pony nods to Topaz, "Yes, I have a few bags of them, for emergencies. It's mainly these balloons causing it though." He looks back at the colorful array of inflated balloons tied to himself. They are carefully tied to his midsection via the saddlebag, which is fastened with double straps to hold it securely to the pony.

His ears perk up at the mention of the ship having arrived, and he takes a deliberate bounce, sending himself up a few feet and hanging there in midair, peering around to try and spot it in the thirty seconds before he descends.

The thing is, that was technically impossible. Lichdom very specifically forced you into a half-rotten state, or something similar, as a consequence of having such a tenuous soul connection. According to all literature on the subject at the time; this is back when rather than being able to cast regenerate and then flay yourself to remove scars, you'd have to use a temporary and gruesome necromantic spell to graft new flesh for yourself.

The benefits of Lichdom (immortality, broad immunities, some undead powers - I'm told now that old liches didn't use up their spells when they cast them, but I've never read anything official on it) can come from so many other sources, and I didn't have any of the associated weaknesses. I value my flesh too much, in the end. Shooting towards modified outsider was my best bet in the end.

Moirail: The Pale Quadrant. Similar to a soulmate, but platonic.

So, um, tangent story time!

Back in third or fourth grade, I remember having one of my teachers demonstrate that triangles were used to reflect "graceful womanly" bodies, while squares and circles were more representative of "solid man" bodies and gave us an art assignment to draw one of each kind of body. *I didn't really understand why at the time, and really, it just felt like a forced explanation to me because you can make a square out of two triangles. *So, uh, yeah, I ended up drawing a football player and a cheerleader, and basically lost points on that for using angles on the legs of the football player, and circles for the pom-poms.

So anyway, here I am today, with a BA in Art Theory, and to be frank, that whole concept of masculine versus feminine shapes never appeared in any of my upper classes!

I mean, outside of what was needed for class, I can understand how, for example, your typical cartoon/comic/caricature of a girl uses two triangles a la an hourglass shape (Jane and Judy Jetson came to mind immediately), but I still also can't help but go out of my way to see triangles in manly men, too!

It's not just an art thing, though. S curves are feminine, but so are waspish figures. It comes about from all sorts of stuff, so I can't pin anything down for citation.

The heads are approximately the same size, but the bottom one looks smaller. I don't have the fine motor control to generate 'feminine' exactly, but it illustrates a point. Big eyes indicate feminine innocence, not feminine violence. The eyes should be more pronouncedly slanted but I fail at low-res finger painting.





These two are built on the same chassis, and would have approximately the same mass. The second one looks more feminine because the triangular forms create a sense of tapering, leading to "delicate joints" and "elfin features" so commonly associated by most folks as feminine. *Using the same size, but implied thinness, you can make something look petit when it's not.

It's not entirely art, it's obfuscation. If there's one thing I've learned in life, it's how to fake completion so I can skive off earlier than necessary. Faux depth in poetry, getting stuff across without really doing it, that sort of thing. Unlike Mask, I decided that I was somewhat morally opposed to it so I stopped.

I prefer this one.

One of the color sites I used when designing Topaz gives Slate Blue as #737CA1 and the complimentary color as #a19772. Redone in those colors bottom pony comes out like this:

Eep! Hopefully you won't feel the need to cut anything off of Beeskee. He's just a simple earth pony. The balloons were made by unicorn magic so they'll last longer than a few days, but blame the shopkeepers for that! I've apparently had bad luck with characters recently, since I doubt my poor chubby chefpony survived the PonyFort massacre. *sniffle*

Beeskee: The pony grins playfully and nods, following along behind Starry with almost-gravity-defying bounces, enjoying the feeling of being light on his hooves. He double-checks his supplies, since he's carrying a small sampling of everything being brought. "The cart is waiting at the shop, but I imagine somepony from there would be willing to drop it off if we don't have anypony available to fetch it. Or I could bring it, once I stow these balloons."

I think one of the posts about Forum rules and policies has a list; something Rich posted. I think the progression (as far as I've gotten) is Pixie -> Halfling -> Dwarf -> Orc -> Bugbear

Actually, soft curves are more effeminate than angles. I'd only characterize angles as feminine if they were used to form other, more feminine shapes. There is a stylistic balance between curves and angles that yields maximum femininity, though.

True. What I meant was "if curves are out, then you will have to rely on acute angles". Right angles tend to be masculine in their rectangularity, when making building blocks for robots.

Belgian beers (in particular abbey ales and lambics) are typically slightly sweet or lightly fruity. In terms of color, they tend to run from pale gold through amber and on toward brown; they also tend to have a high ABV for beers, but they’re made to be savored rather than chugged anyway.

Another option you might try is porters (or stouts). Most have flavors of coffee or toffee, and they tend to be milder and have less bitterness than lighter or hoppier beers; incidentally some of my favorite beers are porters and stouts, and many smaller breweries have excellent recipes for this family of beer.

If you’re looking for a company to try, give New Holland a shot. They’re small enough to have some good recipes without sacrificing flavor for mass production, but they’re large enough that you should be able to find some of their product most places in the US if you look hard enough.

I see. I've tried some of what you're talking about, but the coffee/toffee 'notes' always end up as just a different flavor of blegh. I've had a, what was it, Belgian white pale ale (?) that was almost palatable, in the sense that I could nurse it rather than throw it out. I'm a horrid wuss when it comes to beer though and I don't know why.

I'll see if some of the good ones are available locally. Thanks for the tip; I always feel so plebeian, being all "Ew beer lol".

He also has what looks like a hundred balloons tied to himself, and with each step he floats for several seconds before coming back down to the ground. "All set!"

On the trot back, Starry grins fondly at the sight of the hopping pony.

Oh! My, but you're... buoyant. Are your saddlebags full of balloons? She looks out past the pier and waves a hoof. I think that might be the ship we're supposed to be taking, but I'm not sure.

Beeskee: "Thank you for providing the ship for the mission." The rest of what Shadowy says goes over his head. He never even considered how valuable an accountant might be on this trip!

Beeskee: The earth pony nods to Topaz, "Yes, I have a few bags of them, for emergencies. It's mainly these balloons causing it though." He looks back at the colorful array of inflated balloons tied to himself. They are carefully tied to his midsection via the saddlebag, which is fastened with double straps to hold it securely to the pony.

His ears perk up at the mention of the ship having arrived, and he takes a deliberate bounce, sending himself up a few feet and hanging there in midair, peering around to try and spot it in the thirty seconds before he descends.

Beeskee: Beeskee smiles at the sight of a group of ponies already forming. "I have a cart with more supplies on the way. It's just hard for me to get good traction like this." He demonstrates, pushing forward as if to give a tug on an imaginary cart, but the motion sends him floating up into the air for a few seconds instead. The earth pony does an epic leg wiggle while waiting for his hooves to touch the ground again.

I... See. Starry raises an eyebrow at the epic hoof wiggle, then laughs. Come aboard, come aboard. You remind me of a wee filly aquaintance of mine. Adorable thing, always ballooning about...

Anyway, I'll see if we can't get somepony to help with that cart, once I find a boat.

Beeskee: The pony grins playfully and nods, following along behind Starry with almost-gravity-defying bounces, enjoying the feeling of being light on his hooves. He double-checks his supplies, since he's carrying a small sampling of everything being brought. "The cart is waiting at the shop, but I imagine somepony from there would be willing to drop it off if we don't have anypony available to fetch it. Or I could bring it, once I stow these balloons."

Oh! I can fetch the cart, if you tell me where to pick it up. I'm good for that sort of thing. Um, if that really is our ship. But I see Starry, so I guess it is. And I can explain about the Dreamscape when I get back.

Beeskee: "It should be parked next to the general store. They know that someone else other than me might be the one to pick it up, so there shouldn't be any problems."

So, we are going, based on a joke and a rumor, to sail a Rocket powered bunker of all things, into mindspace, to find a Scoltish submareine, chase it down, and use it to somehow find a trapped princess?

I am surprised nopony else is getting in on this.
