Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
Well, that's why I'm suggesting this. remember when we all started talking about Vincent's fights, how we liked how they were so clean and precise because of the turn based nature? I'm just running with the idea that we need to be a bit more descriptive and clear cut about our attacks without dropping the ability to describe how impossibly cool our characters are.

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
I think the fun behind Vincent's fights are that no matter how cool, awesome, or overpowered the attack is... it's just going to be hit point damage for the most part.
Just my opinion about them.
If people want to start using the spoiler option, I figure it's their right to.

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
A Biotic would fall under the Psychic Ban. I know in the game it is handwaved to be "Not Another Psychic", but for all intents and purposes, they are. Because of it, a Biotic wouldn't be allowed in.
And again, for everyone, there are other unit types beside psychics and scientists!
But really, 3/4 character concepts people are tossing at me for Remnant, fall into those two categories. Maybe the ban is a bit harsh, but its necessary from an IC and OOC standpoint. Its starting to get a bit tiring to have to keep saying no to people wanting to join because those two types are all that people ever want to seem to make.Last edited by UncleWolf; 2011-10-12 at 05:48 AM.

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
Oh hey, Wolfy actually knew what that was. I assumed it was something anime related. >.>
Anyway, scientist/engineer types don't have much interesting roleplaying to do, related to their job.
Techy: "Ohai, I invented x" Other person in scene: "So you did." There's no interaction with it, no conflict. Inventing scenes tend to be cut scenes, interspersed with other activities. So it's best if the "other stuff" is the main character motivation / concept, with the inventing things is just their job, and not their main reason for being onscreen.

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
Speaking of Remnant recruits, still not sure what to do with Kaesar. Technically, MaGLoG did get built without incident, but he didn't really do anything due to deadtime and the casino's construction taking place off-screen. So, does that count as him succeeding in his mission, or failing spectacularly?

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
Since it was kind of a test, it probably shouldn't count for him, doing nothing onscreen, but OOC, kind of sucks to have it count against him. So maybe handwave away the whole thing? I dunno.

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
I haven't seen much of Kaesar around at all. I honestly thought you had abandoned the PC. If he'd been around more often, so Remnant could get a good feel of what the PC is like, then I'd consider handwaving him in. But that said, the best I'm comfortable doing, would be to assign him some other probationary task.
That reminds me, Rotting Baron, once I get back from work I'll write up a short PM on equipment your PC would be offered.

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
I think this was mentioned before somewhere. Anyway, Mewtwo never faced any problems getting in because it happened before Wolfy sat down and sorted out the restrictions on who can and cannot join. At this point he isn't a big problem because if some psychic incident happens they will know exactly who to blame.

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
Speaking of characters for Remnant, I think you said that while they didn't have an actual job for him, Harin might be useful as a consultant? Or something like that?
The thing is, I'm not sure how to go about that - there's no real process for it, that I'm aware of.
(Also, I was thinking of him more as someone who used tech to bypass security systems than a scientist. Though I admit that there are some pretty good IC reasons not to let someone like that into your base.)

I just went back and read the whole OP (except the history), and I can only find the rules/guidelines for joining as a full member. Which I was specifically told Harin wouldn't work for. What am I missing?

Didn't you say the Remnant had a need for logisticians, healers, agent-types, and normal officers, Wolfy?

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
And I don't think it was ever explained why two psychics is so much worse than one. Let alone one that's unable to affect other minds.
In fact, you'd think Remnant higher-ups would appreciate having someone who can block unwanted psychic mischief, if they dislike it so much.Last edited by Murkus; 2011-10-12 at 01:07 PM.

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
Alright, this is me trying to remember exactly how Wolfy explained it to me. Don't quote me on this. =x
Basically, Remnant can make use of psychic blocking technology very easily. In fact, I'm fairly certain some of the higher ups are equipped with it already. Part of the OoC reason for avoiding having more psychics is that if there got to be too many it'd be a security risk and many more people would have to be equipped with the psychic blocking tech. If that happens it essentially wipes out an entire way of combating Remnant.
I'm sure Wolfy can correct me if I made any mistakes with that when he gets back on.

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
But my psychic can't do anything.
And I'd be willing to bet that Caet can set up wards against such things pretty easily. Seems like it'd solve that problem entirely, and a lot less expensively.
In any case, I apoligize if it seems like I'm pestering. It's just that Remnant's the only real organized military force right now, and without some work like that, Teq's stuck doing random hits or slow-going mercenary work. >.>My avatar was done by Gullara. Thanks again!

Re: {Nexus} OoC XXV: Where all the Cool Cats are.
Another reason that was listed to me (as I was considering having Aleph join as an aide or some low lackey) is that there is the potential for psychic powers to grow and expand, as powers tend to do in Nexus, which might lead to more mind readers and such.
I think I also vaguely remember that Wolfy just isn't very fond of psychics either, so you know, just a personal preference. I could definitely be wrong though.

Teq's also a member of MURDER. He could attempt one of the many contracts that have nobody going after them.
