I assume I'll be meeting them here then...

Alright, let's check the building for clues.

Scribly heads over and starts rummaging through the remains. Looking for any kind of personal belonging, not necessarily expensive ones.

You can always take 20 if you have time.

Also after this I am out for the day, will be back in the evening.

The rubble and debri are cluttering everything and it takes him time to navigate around the ground floor. (I am assuming first you are checking the ground floor... going up might require some balance, reflex checks!)

What is not covered in snow is covered in black dust and soot making his clothes full of a mix of dirt, mud and black marks. Eventually though his efforts pay off as he finds a half burned hand written journal. It is unfortunately some form of ledger or accounting book that the owner of the house was keeping about payments to his staff along with comments about their performance and personality.

The ground floor yields a few more trinkets, some of possible value, like an unbroken vase and a small blackened brooch but little than can be considered personal.

From the layout he can tell that on the ground floor there was a large kitchen, an indoor privy (which still stinks like hell), three rooms probably for servants and a large storage room. There are remains of casks of wine and broken bottles that exploded when the wine started boiling due to the temperature.

When he tries to head upstairs he says that part of the wooden staircase has collapsed but he can still go up. It doesnt seem the safest staircase in the world though and as such he does his vigoring.

    Balance check.

You manage to maintain your balance as the snow and wood shifts behind you. You jump a few steps up and are back on safe ground... or as safe as old burned wood can be.

You find yourself in what must have been the main living room. The fire was not as harsh here and the tables and chairs survive though the smell of burned wood and flesh is still in the air.

Remnants of books and furniture that got burned are everywhere and you also notice saddly a few paintings that have been licked by the fire.

A couple of hours later he has found a small dagger with a jeweled pommel that the looters didnt find and (1d50)[12] copper and (1d12)[5] silver stashed behind a burned out couch.

There are more personal effects on this floor including a broken mirror, and a couple of childrens toys that have survived the fire.

The books are more generic ledgers but without personal notes this time. They mention deposits to a couple Aldhavenian banks and a series of transactions with blanked out numbers.

There is lastly the ladder leading up to the second floor. This is one seems less touched by the fire.

Gratz! I killed that troll too... without getting touched mind you... it was more of a toying and getting frustration off :D

Roll hit points here rerolling 1s.

The ladder creaks under your weight but doesnt give out. The third floor is obviously where the fire started from.

A large gaping hole accross a large section of the wall brings in cold wind and snow and makes everything damp. The rooms you find here are three bedrooms full of scorch marks. In addition to this you see blood marks in many corners and on the floor though they are darkened from time.

Assuming you search thorougly you end up with (1d20+10)[23] silver and (1d5+2)[5] gold coins as well as a silver necklase with colored beads. One of the three rooms is full of childrens toys though most are ruined.

The master bedroom has had the bed burned completely and there is actually a hole from which you can see down in the second floor. Remnants of female and male clothes are strewn accross the room as other looters searched the place and found nothing of value left. What you do find though is a battered box with a jammed lock. With time or effort you may be able to open it.

The last room was once pink probably. It has less toys but it does have a dresser table with a now cracked mirror indicating it may belong to the young lady. There are some trinkets that could be indeed considered personal effects including gloves and a hat.

That was highly impressive. Lets see if you can do it again in a minute :D

As he opens the box two things happen almost simultaniously.

The first is that he feels a sting in his hand and he sees that a fletchet has entered deep into his skin causing (1d3)[1] points of damage. He also notices that the fletchet is covered in a thick black substance and a moment later he feels his own blood burning. Focusing for a moment though his metabolism manages to stop whatever affected him or at least the initial shock of it.

It is around that moment that he sees from the top of the little box a vial falling as a mechanism snaps into place. The vial falls on the floor breaking into many pieces and a puff of gas is released. He manages to keep his breath and only inhale a tiny amount and he starts gagging. The gods must be watching though cause even this fit passes quickly but he still feels the gas in his lungs.

Inside the box he sees a small clockwork mechanism of incredible complexity made from gold and platinum. The banging around and opening through force has caused a few cogs to either get out of their position or fall out but with great care one may be able to put it all back into place.

(consider something like the above but a pocket version)

Realising the black coating and the gas must be poisonous, Scribly quickly transforms his body into an ectoplasmic form, through pure mental control. The change his flesh undergoes leaves his body without bloodvesssels, nerves or organs which can be targeted by any poison. Basicly, he becomes immune to it. Waiting for a good minute to make sure the change is complete, he returns back to his normal form.

Next he takes a closer look at the mechanism. Inspecting it to see if he can work it out himself, or will require help.

He has barely heard of a plane called Mechanus which is famous for the various technolodgical wonders that are made from tiny cogs and many parts. This machine would fit perfectly in a world like that.

It seems to have dials for tracking time, day, month, seasons, years, phases of the moon and sun and has a series of different images along with a lever that seems to depict some very particular planes (the alignment paragon planes).
