I grew up in a CITY in Virginia and I have a bit of an accent. I've seen a farm up close maybe two times.

Even worse is saying I'm from Virginia and people are like, "Oh WOW man, hey check this out, it's called Electricimity. It's made out of magic. And those are Autozomoboles. And those buildings taller than two stories are called Skyscrippers." The only proper way to respond to that seems to be to crank up the accent to 11 and act impressed by running water. Otherwise the sarcasm goes right over their heads.

I feel your pain. I'm from East Tennessee, so naturally despite my diction, my relative lack of an accent except when I get upset (or when I've watched an AJ-heavy episode recently), and the fact that I'm almost never seen in public without a book or computer of some kind, I must obviously be an inbred hick. -_-"

I usually respond by amping up my vocabulary to Lovecraftian levels. The looks on their faces as I insult them using polysyllabic words are priceless.

I wish I weren't so lazy sometimes. I could maybe learn how to draw from that pony drawing thread and make a picture of a snowstorm with Rathe creating a shelter for the ponies with his wings while they all sleep near a fire (Rathe would also be asleep). I think his wings would be big enough for it with him being 1500'0" (also cold immunity).

For those who don't know, Rathe is a silver dragon.

Anno 1404 is awesome. I picked it up when it first came out, and finished the campaign. I almost never do that with 'sandbox' games that just happen to include a campaign mode. I usually just think of that as an extraneous feature which I will never use.

I tend to find that with a some of them, too. With Civ (That is, from II-IV)I've barely touched the surface of the mods/scenarios. With Caesar/Phaorah/Zeus I've tended to do a bit of both, but with 4Xlike Sword of the Stars or Sins of a Solar Empire (or even SimCity) I tended to never use the scenarios at all.

I'm guessing 2070 will be good, but I haven't tried it. The entire series seems pretty sweet tho. I think I picked up another piece just because it was on Steam sale at the time. They're named differently in the US tho. 1404 is called "Dawn of Discovery" - makes it hard to tell which ones I have since they all have different subtitles. If you're looking for FAQs or tips try searching for the subtitle as well as the main name.

The switch to third person here is quite jarring. After all, you already spent the first part in Spike's POV. It would be much more consistent to follow in the same tone. There's also the problem of having this part rather disconnected with the first part of the fic. I would recommend you also cover the wedding as well, to make the shift seem more natural.

this starts the Epilogue with a clear break on the page indicating so...and the wedding was 8 years ago...

Other thoughts:
I will say you're pretty brave to try the present tense for this piece. Most stories are told in past tense because they're easier to write. That said, I think it works well when you using the first person POV, but falls rather flat when you switched to the third person.

Also, it is not clear if Spike is his normal diminutive self during the courtship or his bigger dreamself. Your epilogue seem to indicate the latter, but I'm still unsure. A confused reader is not a happy reader as a pre-reader told me.

We were talking about Sots1/2 in IRC last night. Sots2 is supposedly horribly buggy. But if it is not actually out yet, everyone is probably playing a horribly buggy BETA version, which happens.

Tho I still see it listed in Steam. Maybe it has different release dates in different places. Either way you're not missing much currently.

Good news tho, for people who missed out on the first Sword of the Stars, it's on Steam for $5 currently.


Yeah that story is nice so far, I'm looking forward to reading more.

Seriously though, I am going to go start a Ponythread Learns to Draw thread over in arts and crafts. When I'm done, I'm going to link it here.

The premise will be that anypony that wants to can post something in it, and it can be a drawing of whatever they like: stick figure poses, ponies, sketches of still life, full blown surrealist paintings, etc.

Together we will contribute, we will give each other advice and tips as well as keeping ourselves honest about practicing and making time! Who's with me?!

I cannot agree with Thanqol more! The honest truth is that up until I sketched that Twilight head, I had been telling myself since middle school that I was not a "drawing/artistic/visual/whatever" person. Then I lost a bet with SiuiS and decided I might as well practice so I didn't totally embarrass myself (because I'm too proud not to follow through on my bet). I just pulled up a picture of Twilight (a screencap macro, actually) and started drawing circles and lines and doing a LOT of erasing and redrawing until it looked passably like our favorite OP-icorn.

That's why I was so confused at first by all the compliments! I WASN'T an art pony, I never had been. But after taking some more time and bashing away at more sketches until I was satisfied with them, I finally realized that the only reason I wasn't was because I HAD TOLD MYSELF I COULDN'T for so long!

The Mask is absolutely a lie. And it isn't just Thanqol that's had to deal with them. You are artistic! You are creative! You are clever, and fun and nice and friendly and outgoing and whatever else you want to be, if only you'll reach out and try it, believe for one moment that you can be, instead of believing the lie.

Obviously, I still have a lot of room for improvement, which is part of why I'm going to start the drawthread. Even so, I'm ridiculously happy that I tried that first night; my only true ability when it comes to drawing is patience and the stubbornness to work with something until I don't hate it anymore. So, that said, take it from me - if you want to draw things, all you have to do is try without being afraid to use an eraser. Even better, you learn something each time, and there's nowhere to go but up!

Preach it.

@Creative Works and Masks: For me, the biggest issue I face in my creative work is motivation. I know it's good for me to write. I know that, once I get going, I love writing. The problem is when I'm so dang busy (and after this past week, I know I've been overusing that little excuse) it's hard to push myself to write, and then I feel like I'm not writing enough when I do write and blargh.

That being said, I had a firsthand experience last night on how a royal "screw you excuses" can be awesome. I am not much of a dancer. I know a few fancy steps, and can fake some other stuff pretty good, but I rarely dance. Last night was shaping up to be fairly similar to all the other dances I've been to; stand in the corner, try to work up the motivation to go dance, and then be timid and awkward when I finally do something. At some point, I'm not sure when, I must've told myself "No. You have a higher Cha and Dex score than you realize, go dance." So I did. I know I wasn't all that great, and I was so out of shape that I nearly had some asthma trouble, but I had a blast, and figured out I'd picked up a fairly decent Running Man somehow. Plus, it was a hilarious excuse to act OUTRAGEOUSLY HAMMY with gesturing/walking/general body movement.

Next time I'm having trouble writing, I'm going to try remembering this as an example. Hopefully it'll help.

That's basically how I started living my life several months back. And these days, I don't even have to remind myself or talk myself into it! Confidence is the first reaction!

Yeah it's more the adventure/magical girl elements from episode 2 I don't love. Which is weird since I really like Dragonshy and it has a similar "adventure episode" feel. Maybe it's just the use of Fluttershy as a framing device vs. NMM's sabotage. I actually really like episode 1, I just think the end of 2 is kinda "blah" and the moral of the week is tacked on rather than a more organic theme that's apparent through the episode.

I just don't think the pilot puts the show's best hoof forward. If you liked them you'll like the rest of the show though.
