After about 25 minutes one sees you and squawks and all three take flight with their shadowy wings. Initiative (they were going to be there 2 hours, effectively taking 20 on their spot check multiple times each).

Malathot conjures another fog, except this one energized with cold so as to slow down the advance of the creatures and possibly deal cold damage. Largely this is just to buy the dragon time.

Freezing Fog SLA

(is it centered on you? I'm assuming it is, in which case they do nothing of note during their turns because of the 5-ft move speed).

(Malathot would want to keep the fog off of him if possible so he has some maneuverability, but trapping as many of the creatures as possible/putting it in their path is top priority)
He flies away from the fog, and casts Mage Armor on himself.

The first one emerges from the fog, the other two are still within.

The creature takes the blow and charges, its flight like that of the wind itself. Its teeth sink into your throat (12 damage, crit). Your move the other three are still in there. These creatures fly fast though.

And you mean the other two? There were four, and one of them was already killed by Malathot.

The creature charges biting into Malathot's unfrozen shoulder (8 damage). The freezing fog is suddenly blown away by a powerful wind and the other creature glares at Malathot with its canine head.

It's over. Malathot ominously muses at the last creature as he tears into this one.

It falls. The last creature raises its wolf head and howls, but it takes wing flying off over the frozen sea.

Yes, scurry and run! He tries to taunt but draws up blank on any followthrough, mainly due to the injuries he has sustained prior being too much of a distraction. Regardless, Malathot flies back to the camp and takes the time to search the remains of the camp for...valuables that are accessable.

The only valuables the dwarves brought was their enchanted gear and, with the exception of their armor which is useless to you, it is frozen onto their bodies. If you broke some of the frozen dwarves open, or broke them entirely, you might be able to get at it.

[Emperor Ing]

Well weapons and armor are worthless...for the moment. Miscellaneous gear however is worthwhile. Needless to say, dwarves' icy prisons and dwarves are broken.

What kind of dwarves do you start with and how will you tell what item does what?

[Emperor Ing]

Start with a quick scan to see if they have anything of interest. Use of Detect Magic will be invaluable to see if they actually are worth anything. Afterwards, no need to even know what it is, just let hoarding instinct take over

There's an aura everywhere and the ice over the dwarves mutes their items' specific auras. Believe me you can get multiple of each of: Magic boots, rings, amulets, headbands/circlets, gauntlets, bracers, cloaks, and vests.

(yes, also it has an expensive material component you don't have available)

So what kind of dwarf do you want what kind of item from? Mage, earth priest, warrior, or try and loot the commander's body?

[Emperor Ing]

Unless Malathot recalls the Commander being clearly not encased in ice the last he saw them, anything that risks the dragon accidentally triggering a magical explosion would be absolutely foolish.
Anyways, loot the mages.

For every type of item? (They actually have gloves not gauntlets)

Yes. As well as several redundant items to give me options...and to add bulk to the hoard.

And then what will you do?

First, eat the corpses of the creatures from earlier.
Then probably rest at the camp for the night, this time hiding in the commander's tent tunnel.

[Zaydos]

The creatures taste horrid.

The commander is still frozen solid along with the other two dwarves that were down in the tunnel.
