This is a thread for various Reinholdt the player related plots, locations, and etcs. that might belong in other meta-threads but are put here for ease of use and quick reference. This is not an open area.

I didn't, but I figured something out for this one. So now I do!

As the group travels, they might note a distinct lack of usual animal and nature noises.

[Forest]

Sophie looks around cautiously.
It's too quiet... God, that sounded so cliche, didn't it? Either way, something's definitely up.

[The Bushranger]

"I really don't like it."
Jamie looks fairly disturbed at the lack of forest noises. And looks around, trying to figure out what the problem is with her keeeeen druid senses. >_>

((Lex, is Pearl still with Jamie?))

Sallianne just floats along, staying neer Sophie as she seems to be the strongest of them.

Pearl tries to pull herself up to Jamie's shoulder and shivers.

((Reinholdt, my plan was for there to be 16 total pieces of shredded soul. We can shorten that to 8, if you wish. Either way, Irene has one so far.))

Whew. 16. That's a lot. Well, we'll just keep going until we run out of ideas then I suppose.

Jamie will note the lack of sound comes from a lack of animals and insects. They don't seem to be here right now.

Those with particular good hearing might hear the quiet sounds of a cacophony up ahead though. It's still a fair bit off, but they're heading in that direction.

Jamie helps Pearl up onto her shoulder, meaning that now a ghost, a Hunter, and a teenager with an onion on her shoulder are walking into a forest.

..."Sounds like they're mobbing something. There might be a predator of some sort," she warns.

[Morty]

Sophie looks around warily. Her propensity for gardening nonwithstanding, she's a city dweller, and thus not entirely at ease in a forest.
Given what we're looking for, it might be something worse than a predator. For now, let's keep walking.

[Reinholdt]

As the group draws closer, they'll be able to tell that the cacophony is actually a whole ton of sounds at the same time. Chirping, buzzing, roaring, squeaking. It's like someone took a zoo and put all the creatures in the same cage from the sound of it.

Pearl begins to shake a little. Jamie, I'm scared!

Sallianne removes a spear from her back and flies ahead of them to scout.

Jamie frowns, both at Sophie's comment and then at the growing racket.

When Pearl speaks up, though, she reaches up and tries to tug her onion friend off her shoulder and into her arms.
"Don't worry. I'll keep you safe - I promise."

She peers ahead, meanwhile. Trying to see what's up!

[Morty]

Sophie activates her Second Sight and also peers ahead. Maybe something is getting the animals riled up so they attack everything they run across.

Peering ahead shows... more trees and a pixie scouting ahead!

Scouting ahead will show a slight clearing where a menagerie of animals appear to be swarming and fighting over a wispy piece of soul. There are monkeys, birds, an ostrich, a weasel, a kangaroo, a Mister Buttons, and a rhino, along with various other miscellaneous creatures that don't stand a chance of actually getting the soul piece. There's a fair number of wounded already and right now the rhino is dominating the scene, but the weasel is sneaking in while the others are preoccupied.

Reasonably sure pixies and onions aren't considered animals, so they won't be enamored with the piece of Irene's soul that obviously controls animal empathy.

There's nothing for second sight to see once the group arrives to the scene. Sallianne can fly back to give them fair warning before they jump into the arena.

"...wow."
That's Jamie's comment when she spots the menagerie scene!
"...looks like it's made to order for a ghost..."

Sallianne does indeed fly back. Wow Irene. Your soul is super popular right now. All those beasties are fighting over it.

1/40 fox? I don't think so. She can't even make a tail for herself.

"Ugh. They better not be hurting it."
Irene says with a sigh as she floats a little closer to peek.

Mister Buttons roars as the kangaroo punches him in the face.

Sophie sighs. Right... whoever takes that soul will have to fight off a horde of animals on the way in and out. We need something to distract them.

[The Bushranger]

"I could try?" Jamie suggests, speaking up. "Animals like me usually, and I don't want to risk hurting any of them - it's not their fault, after all."

Especially not Mister Buttons'!

Sallianne floats nearby, her spear put away again. When they are distracted, I could try to fly in and grab it. Though, I don't know how heavy a soul is.

[Reinholdt]

"Seems like a viable plan to me..." Irene says, though wary of letting Jamie use herself as a distraction to a bunch of crazed, killer beasts.

[Morty]

[GLoG Forest]

How would you accomplish such a distraction, Jamie? Sophie asks. She's also rather cautious about the idea of sending Jamie to distract a bunch of crazy animals.

"Um, well I was thinking that maybe I could try and talk to them to calm them - or that you could try and distract them, then I'd try and calm whichever ones are left?"

[Lex-Kat]

Sallianne says nothing. She's only here because she's being punished, obviously.

Pearl bounces slightly on Jamie's shoulder. That doesn't sound safe, Jamie. What if they try to eat us?

[Morty]

[GLoG Forest]

I'm not sure if I could distract them. It doesn't look like they're paying attention to anything but the soul. Perhaps you can try talking to them and I'll cover you in case they react badly.

[Reinholdt]

Poor Sallianne.

Irene makes sure there isn't a bunch of dead plants around, before pulling out her flaming sword.

"I can help cover Sallianne." Since Sophie's covering Jamie.

[The Bushranger]

[GLoG Forest]

"If they try to eat us, we run," Jamie tells Pearl, giving her onion friend a reassuring pat, before nodding to Sophie. "That works. Ready?"

And, if nobody further objects, she starts moving to where she can talk to the animals. If her mom is Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, does this make her Dr. Doolittle?

Ummm, okay. And Pearl hops off of Jamie's shoulder, but it's not a long fall, as she suddenly grows a human body and "lands" behind Jamie. She looks like a younger Jamie. Let's go! she says excitedly.

Sallianne nods once to Irene, then follows Jamie toward the animals. When they closer, she splits off to get a better angle toward the soul piece, then waits for the distraction. So, how are you going to cover me exactly? she asks.

If Jamie really wants to be called someone who does little, then she can.

Irene floats after Salliane and waves her fiery sword a little. "I might not be able to push, but I can still burn. Must be the pyromaniac in me."

Fortunately Irene's not an actual pyromaniac.
That I know of...

Sophie nods, and will follow closely behind Jamie as she heads over to try speaking to the animals.

Jamie gives Pearl a smile, and then...onwards they go!

...and she slows as she gets closer to the critter congregration, starting to speak quietly and softly, in a strange language that there's a good chance none of the others know...

"Helo, fy mod yma i helpu. Rwy'n gwybod eich bod yn ofnus ac yn ddryslyd, ond bydd yn cael ei iawn, nid oes rhaid i ymladd. Bydd popeth yn iawn, a byddwch yn ddiogel ac yn gynnes..."

...Jamie, when did you learn Druidic, and why didn't you bother to tell me?

And no, that's totally not Welsh. It's Druidic. *nod*

Well let it not be said that Jamie doesn't stick to her principles.

Right now, Mister Buttons is on the rhino's back, claws dug into its tough hide as he tries gnawing pointlessly at the horn. The rhino is running around as a result and chasing the ostrich away. The weasel is harassing the kangaroo and monkeys are fighting with the birds. One raven is eying Salliane with one eye and the soul with the other.

I'm not sure if Jamie understands mood or animal language, but the best she gets is some scoffs. No one here is scared or confused and safety and warmth is nice and all, but they aren't pets (sans one Mister Buttons). They're wild beasts of the forest, competing over what could be considered territory to them! You can't go in promising cookies and milk and friendship! You have to be an alpha, assert your dominance and lay down the line if you expect a response. You might be challenged for that position, but you can't back down. Show them who the druid law is.
