"Being a doctor around here must be really confusing," Cassidy says. "At least if you're new to the place."

"Oh yes. All I need to ask before healing somebody's broken arm is do they have the means to pay, do they react negatively to divine magic, are they undead and do they have a known allergy to magic." Usually in that order, though after the first question they can be asked in several ways.

"Definitely not the case where I'm from. At least if you've got a contract with DocWagon. Otherwise, you need to be worried about the doctor you're going to."

"I'm unfamiliar with DocWagon. What, or possibly who, is it?" I'm assuming some kind of ambulance service, but I may be wrong.

"They're one of the big medical service companies. You pay a yearly fee and you can call them whenever you're hurt bad. Then they come and pull you out of wherever you are." Cassidy never could afford a contract, but some of the people she's ran with had to call them on occasion.

"Oh, kind of like one of those ambulances that rush to where you are and carry two trained professionals to carry injured people to hospital and make sure they don't die en-route." Defelent may be a medieval person at heart, but he's familiar with more modern things even if he chooses not to use them.

"Yeah, but the ambulance comes with two armed guards in this case. They'll get you out of pretty much anywhere, even gang fights." She always wondered why that company actually did that.

"Armed guards? How likely was it that they'd be needed?" And presumably it's because even gangsters need health care, perhaps more than most, so it's a good market.

"Pretty darn often, from what I've heard. They were really popular with mercs." She thinks, anyway. She never actually worked with a mercenary company.

"Well, if it's paying for a safe extraction as well as healing, then I'd see why it's so expensive." And also why it's so popular.

"Yeah, it's pretty obvious why. Not a lot of other companies try it, though. I don't get why, either." It seems like a market that would have a lot of competition.

"Probably because they have legally-hired guards on the payroll that after hours gain a bonus by running around smashing opponent's attempts to get on the market." Plus, there's the possibility that the company that does do it doesn't make much money out of it.

"That makes a lot of sense, actually. The corps do it all the time, can't see why medical escort companies are exempt." DocWagon would probably hire shadowrunners instead of use their own forces, though.

"Your homeworld never ceases to amaze me. Rampant corruption, if businesses can go around smashing each other's property without the government interfering, and very little food. I am very glad I'm not there." It sounds horrible.

"Eh, you've never been there. Besides, that corruption in the corps can create a lot of jobs." Mainly the kind of jobs she had.

"I don't know how long I'd survive in a world like that. Unless I learn how to use a firearm, anyway. There's not many of those in the Church, really; most clerics prefer to use the weapons that have chosen them to wield them, and nothing else." There's three I know of, but I think I've listed them to you already?

"If you really wanted to, I could show you how to work a piece. Doubt you do, though." Cassidy's probably going to be the only one in the Temple with a gun.

"Oh, Beautiful." With the words, Defelent's evil mace emits a wave of empathic pleasure, flies off its wall-mount, where it was glowering at the pair, and is deftly caught by Defelent. "When she feels like it, she'll return to my hand when dropped. Or thrown." And Beautiful is likely something the world of Shadowrun hasn't got; a sentient, sadistic weapon that can emit waves of feeling and emotion, especially in battle, when it gives off waves of bloodlust, pleasure at the sensation of smashing skulls, and a taster of the pain being hit by her will cause.

Cass chuckles as Beautiful moves to Defelent. "Yeah, that's different from where I'm from. If you're not carrying your weapon, you probably won't get to it it time.'

"Sounds like a harsh existence, and not one I'd wish for. Although I dare say that without it you'd be somebody else, and Dalachrech might not have seen you suitable for your present post."

Cassidy smiles. "Yeah, you're right. And besides, I don't look back on my life with any kind of regret. Except maybe the early years when I was in the streets."

"I'm glad that you don't regret your life. Except for that bit, anyway." Defelent will go over and try to give Cassidy a hug. He's still holding his mace, and she's sending a wave of sorrow towards Cassidy. Basically, she's saying sorry for her life. Or maybe she's sorry that she's so close to a living human woman like she used to be and isn't allowed to smash that fragile skull and revel in the colour of her revealed brain.

"Yeah, me too." Cassidy hesitates a bit when Defelent hugs her, but she returns the embrace before long, relaxing in his arms.

I'm not sure when Defelent will let go. Doubtless after a period of time it happens, but whilst he's hugging he'll be quiet. As will Beautiful, though she still feels sad.

Whenever Defelent does let go, Cassidy looks down at the ground for a few moments. She isn't entirely sure what she should be saying at this point.

"...I'm not that bad at hugs, am I?" Defelent hopes not.

That gets a smile out of Cassidy. "No. It's just kinda weird to me. I've been in bed with more than a few people, but I've never hugged any of them or even talked to them a lot."

"Oh, I see. Well, I'm not most people, am I?" Defelent certainly isn't. Most people would not sacrifice a child to appease an evil deity. Well, maybe a lot of people would if it was that or death. But few would do so if it were there own child.

"No, you're really not." Cassidy glances at Defelent again, straightening herself up. "I hope I'm not the same as everyone else you've had."

"Oh, you are. In many ways." She's human, and a cleric of Dalachrech. Both firsts, although the half-drow has had the vision of Dalachrech.
