Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
I'm sorry Vesth, but I have to ask: based on the way your wrote the trombone part, it seems to me like you are unaware the bass clef is completely different from treble, so it caused you to write third/sixth off from what you intended. Also, may I ask why you felt it was necessary to write in the G natural at measure 20 in the trombone part, when there are no G sharps/flats it the measure/key signature?

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
Vesth, I notice that the flute solo at 30 sounds a lot like the Athletic theme from Super Mario. Just a coincidence?

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
Well, after about a month of arduous composing, and equally arduous forgetting-that-I-should-be-composing-and-instead-doing-something-else-ing, O-Chul has been completed (mostly). Unfortunately, it remains unsupported by Noteflight. So, I'll just upload a WAV file. Now, since this is using Sibelius 6 for sound instead of Noteflight, it naturally sounds a heck of a lot better. So, as long as I'm uploading a higher quality version of O-Chul, why not do the same for my other pieces?
So, here are the high quality recordings of Thor, The Oracle, and O-Chul. I've also included XML files for anyone interested in seeing the score. You should be able to listen to the WAV files without downloading them- just click on the song that you'd like, then play it (note that this requires that you have a 4shared account). If you don't have a 4shared account, or want to look at the score, just click the file you want from the list and download it.
Anyways, I'd love to hear any feedback on O-Chul. It definitely took more effort than the other two, and I'm curious what everyone thinks of it.Avatar by Babale.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
I finally got around to finishing Durkon's Theme. You may notice parts of it seem suspiciously similar to Thor, and this is no accident, as I felt it would be cool to have continuity between the priest and his god. Anyway, for those wondering I am using a Trombone, Violin, Bagpipe, Dulcimer, and Timpani.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
In which case, you may want to consider changing it to G#, to keep with the other notes being raised by a half-step.
Anyway, here is the start of a new song I am writing.Illud quod aeternitatem iacere potest non mortuus est, ac dis peregrinis etiam mors moriatur.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
Can you please upload Fall of the Gods as .wav? I can't read FLAC files on my new computer, and for whatever reason the official FLAC reader doesn't work.

Well, I'm noticing a sudden influx of not having any work, so I can start composing again. If anyone has requests, I'll take 'em.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
Haley's theme would be a welcome addition, unless someone is already working on that. Another good idea is Malack's Theme.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
Funny, I was thinking of doing Malack's theme earlier today. I think I'll make that a working idea- if I diverge too wildly, I'll think of something else.
In the mean time, could we add Malack's Theme to the Requests/WIP listing in the first post?
EDIT: And... I'm about a minute into 'Vengeance' (for String Orchestra, because I don't compose for them often enough), and I'm calling it a night. Should have this one ready soon, though.Last edited by Othesemo; 2012-04-13 at 08:21 PM.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
Lemme cut to the chase: Haley's Theme.
Now you may be wondering, "QN, you said you'd finish it like a month ago!" Take a look at the song's full title in Noteflight. That's right: v4. FOUR VERSIONS. Think of it as a medley.
As for the actual song, I think it starts off pretty straightforward and ends up discordant. Whether this is good or bad is up to you. It definitely cuts short, as a lot of my pieces are wont to do
In any case, enjoy, and keep an eye out for Elan's Ballad of the Legendary Élan, coming soon.Last edited by Quarion Nailo; 2012-04-24 at 11:39 PM.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
Nice. Very fun, and you managed to through a quote in very well. One suggestion- but the flute part up an octave. The register you're writing in is awfully low for a floutist. Other than that, great job.
I've gotten a bit sucked into a piece for band, but I should have vengeance up soon.Avatar by Babale.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
Sorry for taking so long with Belkar's theme, I had several complete re-writes with uni on top. Hit the books for harmony theory and noticed everything was wrong, and then hit the books for dissonance theory and found out some nifty things I simply wanted to throw on top and well, long story short, I've started from 0 again after several minor corrections leading to 15 minutes of instrumentation going to the trash.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
So I saw in the transcribing of one of Rich's interviews this
Jesse - One thing I noticed recently on the forum that I thought was kinda interesting is the fact that people have started to. . . sort of making a soundtrack to the series. . .
Rich - I saw the thread title, but I haven't been. . . I haven't been on the forums as much as I should since this started, been having to put up an update almost every single day for the past two weeks, so I haven't actually caught exactly what's going on there, but it's an interesting idea, I mean, I know that Homestuck does similar sorts of things with the fans creating soundtracks and he actually uses them in his animation, which I don't think is gonna happen for the Stick, but it's still a great idea to be able to have something to listen to... I don't know, it's an interesting idea.Originally Posted by Kuulvheysoon

Yeah, I noticed that when I was glancing through the IGC a few weeks back. The idea that Rich Burlew may have listened to my compositions is a pleasant thought.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
So...I've never written music before. I can't play any instrument. So, now that that's out of the way, I was deeply intrigued by all this, and I want to put something forth.
This (amateur) piece is entitled, Right-Eye. My first score ever. Anyone (dis)like?Last edited by Ninjadeadbeard; 2012-05-04 at 07:00 PM.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
...
Really?
Huh. Distinguishing between harmonic mistakes and genius became a lot harder after post-tonal music rolled around. That said, you either have a natural talent for composing music, or a natural talent for making some excellent (and deliberate sounding) mistakes. Either way, good job.Avatar by Babale.

While I would normally just take that genius comment and file under my happy-place, I assure you anything that sounded decent was purely coincidental.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
These are nice, I'll put them up in the OP.
I think I should tell you, however, that you're using ties instead of slurs. Ties (placed with a comma) look a lot like slurs, but they join the lengths of two notes together, even across bars. Slurs (placed with an 's') can be placed across multiple notes, and indicate that the notes are being played more smoothly.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
*Listening to Right Eye* I bet I could play that.........
*Reaches measure 18* Oh S**T!
You need a violin to play that because, excluding the last note, all of that is withing the comfortable range of a violin, and in the impossible range for any cellist I know.
Also protip: Write music that high in treble clef. If you go above the middle line, you need to change instruments.
Though I think I could easily arrange for The Plan to be played.
EDIT: Though We couldn't play so of the slurs.Last edited by Howler Dagger; 2012-05-05 at 07:05 PM.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
So, apologies for the double post. I've found a site of interest to anyone who wants to upload music from their computer. It's called Vocaroo, and you can basically upload any music file (.mp3, .wav, etc.) for free, and then have it played back with no download.

Re: The OotS Soundtrack Project
I just realized Musescore.com (I missed this because you download the program from musescore.org) allows you to upload songs and play them back similar to Noteflight, so I will be hosting my songs there from now on. It may be awhile since I am away from my main computer to get my songs uploaded.
