Post Re: 2d6 Torata - IC

Quercus and A'naz follow Rugor and the rest of the group out into the Great Hall. As they descend the staircase, there is a loud rattling noise and the front doors begin to swing open.

Through them strides Marwick Bryggs, flanked on both sides by tough-looking new slaves. The slave to his left is a pale young human with long, greasy brown hair. His face bears three parallel scars over the left eye, likely a claw mark. The slave to Bryggs' right is a lanky grey-green troll with bulging muscles and a tattoo on his chin.

Marwick's attention is held by a piece of parchment in his hand that he seems to be reading. After a moment the doors close behind him. He crumples up the parchment and snorts, tossing it over his shoulder and looking up for the first time at your group. His eyes go wide for a moment, then...

    COMBAT!!!

[ooc notes on initiative: since it would be ludicrous to actually try and use initiative in a PbP with this many people, go ahead and post what you do in your round, and initiative will be determined by posting order, with the baddies going last. I'll then post a summation of combat each round, at which point "initiative" resets itself and everyone posts their actions in the next round. This cycle repeats until combat is resolved.]

    Players involved in this combat:

    Quercus
    A'naz
    Mate

Here's the map (sorry for using paint, but I don't have access to photoshop until thursday):

    "Perfect" A'Naz mumbles to himself.

A'Naz then reaches into his bag and pulls out Marwicks journal and then begins to taunt him.

"Marwick! Hey you beardless, elf-kissing, rockrunt!! I have your diary!!"

"Subdue them," says Marwick in a hushed tone. Then from his robes he pulls a long, slender metal wand with an ivory handle. Leveling it on his left arm, he aims it at A'Naz and depresses a button on it, causing fire and smoke to flare from the tip.

Post Re: 2d6 Torata - IC

    Combat status this round:

Marwick is out cold with a minor wound to one arm from Pyotr's axe.

A'naz narrowly dodges an attack from Marwick's wand and beats back the Troll without wounding him. He then advocates for peace (next time roll a diplomacy check )

Quercus attacks the pale human (roll defensive checks, Mate).

Mate slams Pyotr in the jaw with a well-placed kick and tries unsuccessfully to disarm him.

Pyotr rubs his jaw and glares menacingly at Mate. "He's right, you should be joining us, not fighting us. We're getting out of here. There's a new law that's come in from the southern colonies that says we're all free!"

The Troll pauses to consider his options. "My name Gruk'shia," he says after a moment, "and I am no companion of Dwarves, but if you are be escaping, then I joining you. This place, this...Thronsees...is to be sad everywhere."

After a short pause, he adds, "Drig I don't to talk good."

Arktor seems a bit hesitant, but drops his fists as well and shrugs.
Rzas and Velis appear from a doorway and survey the scene.

"We're staying here," says Rzas, "Marwick might be cruel, but the real world is much more harsh. I think you'll see what I mean in the days to come. I'd wish you good luck, but it won't help."

With that the two walk back into the slave quarters.

The wand is too heavy for Raven to carry, being made of metal and hardwood. It is roughly a foot long and is inscribed with various runes.

Unless Mate or Quercus wish to continue, combat is over.

On the other side of town...

Tarrin has led the group to a small tavern where they can collect their thoughts.

"I think it might be best to get as far away from this city as possible," he says, staring into his drink, "otherwise they'll likely send slavecatchers after us."

(you've all got 10 Grom apiece that you nicked from the boat you were being held on, as well as small knives normally used to gut fish, and relatively worn traveling clothes)

[ooc:Tarrin is on autopilot while his player, manata is doing a 6-day nature hike]

A search of Marwick's person reveals:

    • A talisman of some sort
    • The strange wand he was carrying
    • His citizenship badge and papers (Rugor takes these)
    • An ornate golden dagger
    • 80 Grom
    • The deeds of ownership for Mate and Gruk'Shia
    • 5 gold rings

Let me know who takes what, the rest will go into Rugor's sack that Arktor is carrying. Once the spoils are divvied up, Rugor (looking like Marwick) steps forward and says:

"Are we all ready? Good. We'd best make haste. He should be out for a while, but once he wakes up he'll send slavecatchers after us for certain. He's not the kind of Dwarf to allow such an insult to go unpunished."

With that, Rugor steps into the chill night air of Thronsis.

Post Re: 2d6 Torata - IC

As you step outside, one of the guards eyes your party suspiciously.

"Master Bryggs, what's all this then?"

"Know your place Dromyn, Guards are best seen and not heard. How many times do I have to tell you that?" snaps Rugor.

A sour look passes across the Dwarf's face for a moment, then it returns to it's normal chiseled stare.

Having made it past the guards, you wind your way through the cobbled streets of Thronsis. Snow is falling lightly tonight, and several beggars reach their hands out to you as you pass.

The smell of woodsmoke hangs heavy in the air as you make your way through the city's industrial district, and the orange glow of shop windows casts strange shadows onto the uneven stones of the street. Now and then a carriage will go by.

It takes you the better part of an hour, but you eventually make your way to the underbridge, the worst neighborhood in Thronsis. The buildings are in a terrible state of disrepair, and there are many homeless Dwarves sitting in alleys, often by small fires. Some look up as you pass, others stare blankly ahead.

As you pass in front of an almost reputable looking tavern, Four stout Dwarves approach you.

"Oi! You there! What's a groupa fellas like you doin' out on a night like this?"

Rugor is the first to respond.

"My business is none of your concern, and if you wish to wake up with all your teeth intact tomorrow brother, you'll leave us alone."

"Pretty big talk grandad," says the first one, pulling out a heavy looking sap, "but can you back it up?"

The other three pull out saps as well and begin to advance on your party...

Mate rips his deed of ownership into pieces, takes 10 of the Grom's and (If nobody object's) he puts on ring in each of the fingers of his left hand.

" You can call me Mate "

He says to the rest of the group.

" We'll have time to chat later... if we survive this little escape... "

Then he steps outside following Rugor.
