{Nexus} GLoG LXXX: The Continuation of a New Era!

"Really?" Renetta says to Brinika. "I don't think I've ever seen an elf with a painted face. They don't do that sort of thing where I'm from."

Then she proceeds to shake her head at Keo. "I haven't. Not before I met you." Renetta tries to get a bit better look at Keo, though she's already certain that she hasn't.

There are a lot of different people. I've met a goblin lady who lives in the water instead of a cave. And that elf lady was very nice. She sang me a song, Brinika prattles.

Keo looks at Brinka, then back at Renetta. "I never knew there were a lot of different people until I came here,m.There was only one kind of people,m! And now there are so many kinds of people, except for mine,m."

For a drone, this one sure seems to be good at showin disappointment. bzzt! Resignation. Okay. I'm sure your cakes will be just as good. It waits to follow Jamie back to.... wherever they just were.

Jamie will lead the poor drone to the kitchen.
"I don't have pixie magic but I do know how to bake a cake," she declares with confidence.

Demon Queen gives a snort of laughter at the first comment. She gets a little more somber at the second.

What happened?

"Let's just say I didn't discriminate against who joined the ranks of the dead." Shrike snorts. "After all, I was sparing them the pain of living, wasn't I?"

Demon Queen shrugs a little. I guess that's one way of looking at it.

Had the blood not left her face long ago, Lucy would have paled as her inner voices decifer Bill's roar.

"I-I was trapped in a living nightmare... Mindless p-puppet of a monster that should never exist."

She says, her voice only audible because the many directions it seem to come from strengthen it. Looking up, as her head had fallen in fear, she suddenly gets a determined look on her face.

"But you are right, I should not dvelve on the fearful past. Depression will not help and I do seem to still have far to go!"

Her outburst is undercut somewhat by her reaction to relaising that she raised her voice.

"Oh, sorry. I-I didn't mean to shout."

"Well, she's working on the 'great reponsibility' part of the 'great power' thing," Quinn admits. "I'm trying to balance holding her back cautiously with not holding her back too much, you know?"

Reelshka's ears twitch again and fall back a little. Since she has known both her and Brinika for a while, Quinn, might recognize it as a sign that the goblin she's talking to isn't sure how to put what she means. Of course, reading the way goblin ears express their emotions is rather difficult for non-goblins.
I think... I think you might not be holding her back enough, if you don't mind me saying so. Magic powers aren't something children usually have and I'm afraid they might not have a very good effect on her attitude.

Andy ends his operation on the robot and sends him bakc for cooking.
Then he heads back to the table placing a small loudspeaker connected to a micro form of a computer.

"This was the translator used by RB. We can use this as the primary tool. That way we wouldn't have a problem there only with the translation."

Lucy smiles at the Deathclaw, trying to avoid worrying her friend.

"Don't be sorry, you could not have known my past. I am merely grateful to have met nice people such as you after being set free"

When Andy reveals the small computer, she investigates it curiously.

Such a small device can translate languages? Amazing!"

"I...have to admit I've wondered that myself. But I'm not sure how to do better without totally smothering her in protection, you know?"

Perhaps some suggestions, here and there, that she learns how not to use magic even though she can? That's the most important lesson a magic user needs to learn, or so I've heard. And while suppressing her powers permanently would be going overboard, maybe doing so for a while could teach her a valuable lesson, Reelshka says.

"Well, she's already practicing that - at my suggestion," Quinn says, with a nod. "She's been learning how to do escape-artist kind of things without magic. I have no idea if it would even be possible to bind her magic, though - it's simply part of her."

Mhmmm. Reelshka nods. Would you mind if I talked to her? Since I grew up as a magicless persn on a magic-poor world, I think I might offer her some perspective.

Alright... Reelshka then suddenly breaks into giggling, which sounds a bit weird since goblin voices are naturally high-pitched. I just realized your future son might just be the first human baby in the history of everything to have a goblin godmother.

"Yeah development isn't only gone in faster higher stronger. Indeed technologie also works on smaller. The most know thing is tat they try to make things as small as possible to find new use for such things. This part coud have been set into another humanoid person without a problem and replace his vocal cords. In a world where such things happen and magic is rare it becomes a common tool."

He then heads back to Bill

Krystal takes a step back. Well...I can't really scan for anything...but...hang on. Krystal will walk back to the desk and hit a button on what looks to be an intercom. Hey Runner. You in your shop?

A male voice answers, though it seems to be distorted. Sounds very metallic. Yes I am, Krystal. How can I help?

I have a woman here that thinks she might have some kind of tracer on her or something. Think you could scan for anything?

Absolutely. I will send one of my drones over.

Krystal nods a little. Thanks. She looks to Bethany. Okay, just sit tight, and we'll get that checked out.

Less than a minute later, a small robotic drone flies in through the door. It's roughly spherical in shape. It will float over to Bethany and perform said scan. A moment later, Runner's voice comes through the intercom again.

The scan shows no signs of any kind of tracing device.

Thanks, Runner. Krystal smiles to Bethany. Well, that takes care of that.

And so, the board is set. The chess pieces stand rank by rank, ready to march forth unto their destruction. First, the pawns will fall, being the most expendable of them all. Second, the bishops will be executed one by one as they rush into oblivion. The knights will follow in an L-shaped line, galloping to their doom without a second thought. Then the rooks will crumble. The queen next shall be taken.

The king? Saved for last is he. For to take him is to end the game. 'Tis a pity when such a violent game should cease for lack of one piece.

But, in this game, the black pieces and the white pieces never meet in martial contest. No. The white pawn takes another. The queen stabs the bishop.

For who knows who is friend or foe. And truth? Human minds fashion crude lies to soften the impacts of their world which they cannot find ways to explain or tabulate in their neat data charts. So scared are they that most cannot reconcile their spirits with reality and live in dream worlds between here and there.

What's the difference between a certified nutter and your average human? Perspective.

Who is to say we are all asleep and he is the only one that sees the world for what it is and isn't? Quantified. Qualified. Sterilized.

Bethany is surprised! My oh my, that was rapid. So the rumors are valid! GLoG's medical care is top notch!

"Thanks. That makes me feel much better about everything."

Bethany smiles faintly. What else would one expect from someone with a dangerous psychopath on their trail? There are two sides to every story. Flipping the heavy coin once results in either heads or tails, but never both.

She looks a tad embarrassed, judging by the red streaks brushed upon her cheeks. She's evidently not accustomed to such advanced technology being ever-present in everyday life.

Her conversation is not flippant or lengthy, for idle chatter, especially those that cause great offense, offend her in turn. A shyness she has staked out as her own. That would speak volumes as to why she is not a player herself, though she enjoys the art.

"And be sure to thank your assistant as well."

"By the way, there wouldn't happen to be a phone around here that I could use. I need to warn my husband and his men of the coming storm."

Why would she feel compelled to warn a whole group of thespians over a matter involving only her own safety and that of her husband?

Krystal waves a hand. Ah, it's no problem. And Runner isn't an assistant. It fact, the big bot's been here longer than me.

Krystal nods to the request and reaches for the phone. She hesitates a moment, though.

His men? Is he a military officer or something?

"Close, but not quite right. He's a private sector security officer, actually."

Bethany replies. Her tone freely divulges just how much she cares for her husband and his safety. She's worried. Extremely worried.

Bethany reaches out expectantly to accept the phone.

"Don't you have parents here, Keo?" Keo gets Renetta's attention at the moment, though Brinkika does get a smile.

"No,m. My mum isn't here, she is back where I came from,m. I miss her,m."

Keo looks down. She really misses her mum. And her friends...

Brinika's ears droop and she scurries over to try and give Keo a hug.

"Taurus Russkij," the white-haired young man says with a smile. "And while your way is as valid as ours, ours is meant to be relaxing - catching fish is, somewhat, besides the actual point."
